Cool Tomahawk. This was more of an impulse buy and I havent thrown it yet. The hawk is heavy and appears to be well constructed the blade on the axe is sharp enough to shave hairs, so you know if you run out of razors and thats all you have around you may have options. My one dislike about it isnt even from the Tomahawk itself its from the sheath. If Im carrying this on my belt I wont be able to remove it very fast because you have to unbutton it (no problem) and then grab it by the head and pull its handle up and out which gets snagged every time and this is when Im just holding it not on a belt. So I imagine on a belt it would be significantly more difficult. Tomahawk gets a 5/5 Sheath gets a -1 Total 4/5

Haha can’t really make it a tactical since it doesn’t really mean anything for a tomahawk but has good features for an affordable hatchet role that can spike something pretty hard. Had the full size model but wanted o try the smaller one. I personally find it too small compared to the full size tomahawk. Still works great though and is easier to carry since it’s small. I just find the blade length too small for my tasks. Good to have one or th full size either way. One of my favorite “hatchet” types to keep around.

This thing is great. Field tested on a 3 day trip. Used it to cut up a 15 foot log about 5 inches thick into pieces small enough for a campfire. It took some energy and time but I was field testing in a survival situation and it proved to be worth every penny. Blade is pretty thick which I thought would give me problems but it didnt. Blade came sharp and proved worthy during testing. Durable handle and quality made. Great little ax for the price. Comes with a cover as well which is nice. I see this lasting me a long time. Great addition to your gear!

SOG Fasthawk. I bought this for my son for his tenth birthday (got one in all stainless too) and could not be happier. He has become very interested in throwing hawks and I wanted to encourage this activity as we can do it together. I bought a classic style hawk as well (a mouse hawk) along with this item so he two different styles and could see what he liked. By far, he loves the SOG Fasthawk. The edge came hair shaving sharp and while the spike seemed a little blunt, it sticks very well. For his size and strength, this tomahawk is perfect. The handle length and weight and balance are exactly what he needs. I had looked over the 3 pack of SOG throwing hawks, but decided that the Fasthawk seemed more durable. My son has chipped them up a little in the month he has been throwing them, but that is to be expected. The stainless steel head sharpens easily to a keen edge and retains it well. As an adult, I think that it is a great throwing tomahawk and could be used in a pinch as a lightweight camp hatchet. Overall I am extremely happy with my purchase. Oh, almost forgot, for $17 how can you go wrong. Stock up, throwing hawks rake a lot of abuse. So, to recap, this is the perfect starting out tomahawk for a boy ir girl or anyone ad it is lightweight, well balanced, well made, and has a price that can not be beat. The low maintenance of the stainless steel is great for a kid too.

I heard a lot of great things about SOG, and was looking for an inexpensive tactical tomahawk. I needed something tough and reliable, but not heavy (I needed it to be lightweight for camping excursions). The Fasthawk is all of these things. Unfortunately if you want something lightweight in the tactical tomahawk department, you sacrifice size. The two things buyers should know 1. This is NOT a full-tang tomahawk. Full Tang, in lamen terms, means the blade/head and the handle are one solid piece. Full Tang tomahawks are typically less likely to break, and have no parts to come lose. I knew this going into the purchase - I figured the lifetime warranty would compensate. 2. The tomahawk is about the size of a carpenters hammer. I did NOT know this. At first I was disappointed at its small size (mainly the diameter and length of the handle), but after getting a feel for it, I actually like that its that much easier to conceal - and since I am only using it for camping excursions and emergency situations, it will do just fine. The blade comes pretty sharp, the weight is ideal, and the pick is angled on one side, and flat on the other (perfect for a wedge and for prying). All in all, I am pleased with the Fasthawk and look forward to putting it to real use.

The only bad thing about this is the cover. I ordered a better one from the company. The cover it comes with is just a bad design that can hurt you if you dont pay attention.

Very first thoughts: Amazing. I bought this Fasthawk mainly for splitting small firewood and for my bug-out bag. Its extremely light weight (perfect for a bug-out), it splits small firewood like nobodys business, and it looks awesome. However, I am giving this 4 stars instead of 5 because it shipped with a loose bolt. When I use it, the axe head pivoted back and forth. This is a simple fix because I live close to a SOG warehouse, but for anyone who isnt near one it will be more of a headache. It still works fine with the loose bolt, but its annoying and probably not safe. Overall I am satisfied enough to give this 4/5 stars!

    Greater than one week

I ordered the Fasthawk for a bed side go-to defense tool. I was surprised and a little disappointed by the small size when it arrived. I have hammers that are bigger. In fact I ended up ordering the full size Tomahawk from Sog as well. It just arrived. I like the larger size but it is MUCH heavier than the fasthawk. I now appreciate how quick and nimble the fast hawk is. For tight hallway fights, give me a fasthawk. For close combat with some room to dance...give me the full size tomahawk. Btw, the handle is a bit slick. Only disappointment in design. It will work though.

I do not give 5s easily but there one major reason. Bought this for my sons 9th birthday and he stuck this thing within a couple of throws. It is a great size for both children and adults. The learning curve in minimal. We do not land every throw but the success rate is perfect for keeping confidence and interest up. Product: The handle does feel a bit slick but that hasnt caused any issues. This handle is tough as nails though, we throw on the end grain of logs and this handle has been taking a beating. The screws which secure the head to the handle have remained locked. If they do ever loosen Id just use some thread lock to fix the problem.

These tomahawks are lightweight, easy to throw and develop consistent throws at multiple distances, and are flawless in tactical design in my opinion. The beard drops low enough that these can be used in close quarters protecting the knuckles and can quickly develop into short to medium range threat. Or vice versa if you carry a pair. They are so lightweight and well profiled they conceal easily about your person. As far as the complaints about the handle I think it’s just bad luck. I have a set of three dedicated to just throwing. I have hit or knicked the handle multiple times grouping shots and it still takes a beating. A cheap file set will help with a quick easy sharpening tool and should be used to flatten and sharpen the rear spike. This axe is almost impossible to drop with a bit of practice. You can cleanly stick the axe and control the angle with good wrist control. Reverse grip throws provide a reliable spike first hit that slam the handle upwards and forwards. If used defensively any shot center mass with a reverse grip is going to lodge in the chest or lungs and deliver a handle strike to the face. This could also easily be used for small game. Even a “missed” throw can still deliver tremendous impact. The complaints about the handle are just bad luck. They are actually my favorite aspect of the weapon. I have intentionally thrown this tomahawk to land in a such a way that the handle literally smacks the target every time. They’re basically bullet proof. 6/5 on quality, design, and consistency in the end user products. Some basic maintenance such as sharpening is an obvious must with any blade. I found that I increased the performance when I sanded down the acute edges on the non cutting surfaces and slightly reprofiling the skull crusher. A good quick sanding on the handle in between use keeps the handle smooth yet still grippy and it releases like butter every time. I don’t know I’ve bought a lot of stuff from Amazon and I basically never leave reviews. These are the real deal in every aspect no matter your intended purpose.
