> 3 daySo the description says Silver but it’s more a dark/neutral cream color so didn’t love that. I had to download a separate app just to pair this which I thought was annoying because I had to setup a whole other account password etc so it didn’t feel compatible it felt like when you have to buy an AUX cord to connect to your car And quite often my phone would seek out my AirPods over my new headphones so that was inconvenient The sound is great and the noise cancellation is good it’s just not suited for people who have 10 apple products and one non Apple product

Greater than one weekI fly often. I use noise cancelling headphones to make my plane time more peaceful and enjoyable. I owned the M4s for a while and loved them, so when Sony brought the M5 to market, I couldnt wait. I was hesitant to pay this kind of money, of course, but I read several professional reviews that raved about them. I will say right up front, I just couldnt hear any difference in the noise cancelling from my M4s. I gave my M4s to my partnerer who travels with me most of the time, so I am able to switch with her for comparison. I just cant hear a difference. But, Im that guy who always wants the latest and the best in tech, so I thought I would be happy. Heres the thing. My new M5s are constantly shifting the noise canceling. Im sitting on the plane listening to relaxing music and it is like they shift from canceling to ambient noise. It lasts for 5-10 seconds, then they shift back. It happend every 5 minutes or so. I have tried turning off adaptive sound control, but it doesnt make a difference. Unfortunately, I went a while without traveling right after I purchased these and so didnt really start experiencing this until a while after purchasing. It is probably to late to return, but I will try. My advice would be to save the money and buy the M4s. They are certainly cheaper and in my experience, much better.

> 3 dayI loved these headphones, and they are very nice in every way. Great sound quality for being Bluetooth. The side touch panel was quite annoying, as I would go to turn up the volume right before the chorus of the song just to be met with my song skipping to the next song. Because when you wear the headphones they sit on an angle on your ear so that they fit the shape of your ear. So often when I try to swipe up to turn up the sound I instead input the command to skip the song forward or backward. Dont know how this happens so easily. THE PROBLEM: I do not know if I have a faulty pair but in the past week of me having them (purchased 24 days ago) I have noticed twice now that I will be listening to music then suddenly I will be met with a jarring sound (nearly a screech) for around 4-6 seconds before my headphones suddenly stop my music and disconnect from my phone. The first time this happened it was as I was taking my headphones off, I put them back on to hear the continuing screeching then the headphones turned off without me pressing the power button. The second time this happened was when I was just listening to music, my hand never even reached for the headphones when suddenly the screech came up and shut off my headphones. I have no idea what is causing this, both times my headphones were sufficiently charged. I would be willing to send these in if it meant I got a full refund. I would totally recommend these to anyone, but then this happened to my 400-dollar headphones... now I am questioning the quality of this product and whether or not this model is prone to bugs in their system. Trying to get a refund now...

Greater than one weekSound is pretty good but these are so light almost plastic feeling. I was concerned that over use they would break. It was disappointing for the price. Returned and got apple airpod max.

> 3 dayI have had these for a month and they cannot play a full song without shutting off. I have disabled the auto off function and still, at times they can play for a matter of seconds before shutting off. This is my second bad experience with Sony. I will never recommend these or any other Sony device to anyone. For $400 they should be able to play uninterrupted for hours. What a waste.

> 3 daydefault signature disappointed me but drives are handled perfectly by Eq. you can customize your perfect signature. high mid and tremble are very responsive. muddy in lows and decent but not great soundstage. overall true high res experience.

> 3 dayI have the WH-1000XM5 and WH-1000XM4. The noise cancellation is far, far better in the M5 version. I miss the voice prompts of the M4. Both sound similar. I gave away the M4s.

> 3 dayI had the XM3 and thought now would finally be a good time to upgrade. And the XM5s were only slightly better. I EQ my headphones, so after that, they both sounded good to me, so not a significant enough difference there. XM5s were marginally more comfortable, but not enough to make a difference to me either. The couple things that were much better was its ability to auto pause when removing the headphones connect to 2 devices at once (XM3 doesnt have that), the ambient sound mode was so much better, and the headphones overall responsiveness to touch/button controls was much faster. As for noise cancelling, Im convinced that there is variation in noise cancellation strength between each individual pair of WH-1000XM5 headphones. Ive watched videos of sound engineers doing noise-cancelling samples and graphically showing the XM5s beating out other headphones, including the XM3. So I know that objectively, the XM5s should have better noise cancelling than most competitors, especially the old XM3s. But Ive compared them both on a plane, in a room filled with talking people, and outside when a bunch of cicadas were droning. The 2 are either on par or the XM3s slightly edge out the XM5s. Again, its soooo close, but I expected new model to be leaps beyond the model 2 generations ago. But because I know the XM5s have to be better, the only conclusion I can draw is that there is random variation in ANC strength between individual headphones. Im giving 3 stars for now and will be returning my pair, but I like the headphones enough to give them another chance, maybe when they go on sale or something. Ill update my review then.
