Splendor is a pretty simple resource based game. You can teach all the rules in about 5-10 minutes, and a round of play only takes 15-20 minutes. Also, the materials are very nice quality, and well packaged. The cards are a smooth, and nicely laminated, and the coins have the weight and evenness of real poker chips. Everything fits nice into the box. For more serious board gamers, I wouldnt recommend it, as there isnt a ton of replay value, since its fundamentally the same game each round, but generally speaking, its a fun, strategic game that doesnt require too much time commitment.

Easy and simple to learn. The tokens used in the game look and feel amazing. The game can involve alot of thinking and planning ahead or just casually playing the turns as they come. Every games leaves you wanting to play another.

I bought this game on an Amazon lightening deal. My kids and I have decided that the manufacturer puts crack on the coins you handle, because all of us were obsessed with this game by the time we finished the first round. Let me begin by saying that were middle of the road people when it comes to board games: we enjoy the occasional Clue, Battleship, and Monopoly. But eventually, all of our games end up in the trash because my slovenly, disorganized, never put anything back children would lose the pieces. (My kids are now 13, 12, & 10.) Wed also never be interested in playing the same game more than once or twice every few months. Splendor, on the other hand, has been played 3x/day since we opened it 5 days ago. My kids BEG to play this and the 10 & 12yo got in trouble today for sneaking the game upstairs and surreptitiously playing it while they were supposed to be doing chores. They meticulously put the game back together and even make sure its returned to the shelf in the closet for next time. They dont take this much care with their video games!

This is a family favorite and all friends who play end up purchasing it. This copy is a gift for a friend.

Heres how this went down. My friend brought this game over to play with my girlfriend and I. He explained the rules to us in about 5 minutes, which for any hardcore gamers out there, youll understand just how short that is; the rulebook is a one-pager with cover art and story, so you can rightfully assume that the game mechanics are NOT complicated like some other games. We then played a full round; I dont remember who won, but the very next thing I did (before my friend finished packing up the game and left) was buy this game. Immediately. After one game. Thats all it took - its superficially simple enough to master the mechanics instantly, and the strategy has an unexpected depth that has made this an immediate favorite of mine. The manufacturing quality is a really nice touch. The chips are satisfyingly weighty, and the cards have a nice finish and feel pretty durable. The box interior is a nice layout too, where all of the pieces fit in after youve unpacked everything and stay where they belong even when lugging the box around to get more people addicted. Id say the packaging is second only to Smallworld, which (for those of you who know) has the most fantastic box organization of any game Ive ever seen. This game is incredibly addictive, and appeals to a large audience. Its got enough strategy that hardcore players like me can enjoy it, and is simple enough that casual players can come in and pick it up without getting overwhelmed. Its less complicated in terms of rules than Settlers, which is arguably the upper bound on casual player difficulty. Each game runs about 30 minutes. Seriously, just shut up and buy it. Its a great game. Well worth the money.

My family has been playing and enjoying this game for at least six years. The game is fun and compelling. I bought a new copy on January 16 after my son took our old copy to college. I had not opened it until today, February 22, but once I did, it was clear that this was not a real copy of the beautiful game. The cards look washed out. The chips are cheap plastic and the plastic insert in the have that holds the parts was already cracked in the box before it was opened and doesn’t quite fit the cards. They texture and printing of the cards feel like Candy Land). Would very much like to return this copy although the app indicates that the return window closed 5 days ago.

Splendor is the kind of game thats so easy that anyone can pick it up (my mom being the perfect example), yet the base mechanics are complex and satisfying enough to scratch your competitive itch. Rarely are you left with the feeling of having lost unfairly, as my own experience counters the first one to go will always win opinion that seems to popularly follow this game. Best of all, you can play with two players if your short of friends and games last only a few minutes. Splendor is a game where you buy more to get more. You start by getting a few gems that must be lost as they are spent on properties. However, the properties are permanent, so the more you buy the less you need the gem currency. By the late game youll either be using your properties to get more without actually spending anything, or youll be saving currency for sudden surprise purchases. You win by buying cards with properties with points on them until you have 15 points. Overall, the simplicity of this game is the only downside for me.

Ive really enjoyed this game. I bought it as a gift for a family member and its become a favorite of ours. The basic concept and turn options are quick to learn. Strategy take a little longer and changes based on the number of players (2 vs. 4 players). An easy win for game enthusiasts.

My son bought this game and I played it at his house. I liked it so much that I purchased one for my house. Couldnt wait for it to arrive and it did in less than a week..... but, when it arrived it was obvious that it was not brand new. While the pieces I side were still sealed in plastic, it was dusty and even though the box was also wrapped in plastic, it was damaged. I was disappointed, but liked the game too much to send it back. I did not order a second hand game.

This game is pure strategy. There are 3 different options for each turn. Such a fun game.
