I got this board game for my 11 year old daughter who loves playing games but doesnt want to play games meant for younger kids anymore. I thought this might be a fun game for her because of the cool artwork on the cards and the idea that your money is in the form of gems. It has been a big hit in our house since she got it on Christmas. Weve played it as a family lots of times and everyone has enjoyed it - adults included. My younger kids ages 6 and 9 have had no problems keeping up in this game as well. Keep in mind that it isnt a quick game. You will need some time to get through this as there is some thinking and strategy involved. We can usually get done in an hour. Sometimes more or less depending on the number of people playing. The more people involved the longer the game. Weve been playing with 5 and that will take some time. The game rules dont state a cap number of players and from what I can infer from the rules I believe you can play with up to 8 or 9 players ( it depends on the number of nobility cards you have and I think weve lost one somehow. You need one more nobility card than people playing). Overall its been a great game for our family and interesting enough that the adults are having fun as well. And if the adults are involved then my kids definitely want to be involved!

Bought this game because it was priced at the lowest I could find. Pretty upset they sent this in a PADDED envelope mailer. My game box got damaged. The game it self is pretty simple to learn and played fairly quickly. Played this with two twelve year Olds and loved it. If you havent played you should try it.

I freaking LOVE Splendor. This is probably in my top 3 of favorite games to play with just 2 people. On the surface, Splendor looks pretty straightforward. Take gems, use them to buy cards which then act as gems, and rack up victory points until you win. However, there is a solid layer of strategy hidden under all that. You can easily block your opponent’s grand plans. You can win by picking up whatever cards you can. You can complete favors for nobles to pick up extra points. It’s really a fantastic game and quite easy to pick up. I can’t recommend it enough if you need a good 2-Player game. (It can accommodate more, but I have never played with more).

I have been playing Splendor on Steam for a while now, and when it was on sale, I finally broke down and bought it. Im glad I did. The gems arent cardboard and are heavy which means this game should last a good, long while. The card stock is impressive, and though the nobles are cardboard, they arent handled too much, so it shouldnt be a problem. This is a fun strategy game where you collect gems to buy cards, which help you to buy higher valued cards. Get enough cards of a specific gem and attract the attention of nobles for even more points. The first person to 15 wins. Its not a complicated game, but its addictive. I play it for a few hours without even noticing. Ive played through alone with the actual board game and am looking forward to putting it into the game night rotation.

Splendor is one of a handful of games that I grab when I have someone over who doesnt play board games very often, or when I feel like playing a game but dont want to commit too much time. This is a fun, relatively quick game that is easy to teach newcomers. At the same time, its challenging enough to keep you on your toes. You really have to pay attention to what others are doing so they dont buy the card you were thinking about for your next turn. Though its a fine two player game, three players seems to be the sweet spot (personally, I find four a little overwhelming).

We tried out this game at Christmas with family and were hooked! We just had to buy it so we could better our skills and go back next Christmas and beat everyone. ;) Im one who doesnt love learning new games if there are complicated directions, so I was a little concerned by this at first when the person explaining it took awhile and it sounded confusing. But once I started playing it, I got the hang of it right away. Our 8, 10 and 12 year old kids even love to play it. I only wish they made an expansion pack so our family of five can play together. We have figured out how to do it on our own though by adding a few red, black, white and blue poker chips to the stash. The only color of chips we dont have is green, so that has become the hot commodity and actually gives the game another challenge because the green runs out quicker, making you have to switch up your strategy. We have played this game with a few other couples since buying it and they have all loved it too. Once you play the first time, you want to play again - its addicting.
