I bought this as a gift because of good reviews. We play it over and over. It takes a little bit of thought for the gamer type person, but its not complex and a game can be completed in about 20 minutes or so, depending on the number of players (2-4).

My brother introduced me to this game. It is easy to learn, and for me, very addictive. I purchased my own set, and when my son really liked it, I purchased a copy for him. The concept is simple, but the strategy for achieving the end goal can be one of multiple ways. Overall, a well-crafted game that only takes about a half hour each time you play.

This game combines skill, luck, and strategy in an innovative form. Match wits with up to three other players as you buy influence represented by gemstones. First one to 15 wins! BTW - there is a Marvel version of this as well featuring the Infinity Stones. Also, there is an expansion to this. It adds some tweaks to the game but I didnt find any of them as satisfying as the original.

If youre looking for a game that is a little longer than a card game but shorter than a board game, this is a great option. There are multiple strategies and its fun all around. I dont have any of the expansions but have played with them. The base game its self works really well and the expansions add some great facets to the game also.

This game is FANTASTIC!!! If you are hesitant about buying it, you should not be. For the price you are getting a marvel of a game. It has become one of my all-time favorite games. You take on the role of a rich renaissance merchant who sells jewelry. Throughout the game you acquire mines, craftsman, transportation methods, and eventually shops while earning points. With luck or skill you may earn the attention of the nobles and earn extra points. It is a card based game and you use gems as currency to buy said cards. The gems are made out of nice poker chip style material which have a nice weight and are colored according to the gem (white-diamond, green-emerald, red-ruby, blue-sapphire, black-onyx, gold-wild). And the cards have elegant artwork that have aesthetic appeal that adds the extra beautiful factor to Splendor. BUY THIS GAME!!

Splendor is a light, abstract engine-building game with great components. Just when you think you have it figured out and youre on to an undefeatable strategy, you find another nuance to tweak it or a different strategy altogether. I have played a little more than a hundred different board games in my life, and I find Splendor to be the perfect combination between simple rules and quick setup to depth and strategy. By the way, those who are averse to luck in their games, can almost nullify the influence of luck by playing a variant where the uppermost few cards in each deck (there are 3 decks in the game from which the common market is replenished) are revealed.

Ive played with groups larger than 5 and the dynamic suffers when youre waiting your turn. The rules are straight-forward and there are a few distinct strategies to victory which allows for some changing mid-game if things arent panning out for you. The replayability factor isnt particularly high since its not very complex, but its a fun shorter game that wont take long to train up new players. The cards and coins are of good quality with interesting artwork. I picked it up on sale and think its a good option to have in the game library.

It doesnt take long to get the hang of it and its really quite fun. Enough going on at a good pace that one stays engaged for the whole game. There is some strategy/prediction involved (which I like) but the randomization of the decks keeps player opportunities pretty balanced (for those who dont like strategy games). I think it tends to wrap up a little too quickly in the later stages (in being so focused on larger purchases, one might not realize that they won), but a game I quite enjoy playing several rounds in one sitting.

While I was concerned it might be a bit too dry to have staying power, Splendor has turned into a staple filler (i.e. less than 20 minute) and gateway game. While its a bit pricey for what it is, the pleasure of the solid poker-style chips tends to make up for that. The game can be taught in two minutes and works just as well with 2,3 or 4 players, though weve noticed it can become much more tactical with 2 players. The object of the game is to collect the most valuable set of gems/mines/production cards. The game ends on any round that a player hits 15 points, but with each player getting an equal number of turns, the player that triggers the end, may not be the winner. A players turn is simple. They have three choices: 1) Collect different colored chips 2) Use chips to purchase cards or 3) Reserve a card for future purchase and gain a wild card chip. The cards represent the different stages of the gem production process with more expensive cards being worth more points. You can then use collected cards to replace chips when purchasing future cards. Its also possible to gain more points by currying favor with special royalty figures. You do this by collecting specific combinations of cards.
