We were gifted a beautiful wooden cutting board as well as an Andrew Pearce wooden bowl. Both expensive items that I was almost afraid to use because I didnt want to mess them up. After treating them with food grade mineral oil, I feel confident that I can enjoy these items while still caring for them properly. The initial process requires a little patience as it is suggested to treat the wood 4 times, ideally letting it sit overnight each time. I laid down old towels and rotated the surface space of the items. I was pleased that the mineral oil did not cause any staining on the towels. The directions suggest using a flat knife to apply mineral oil. This felt very time consuming to me, so by the second treatment, I just used my hands. I felt it was quicker and more effective at spreading the oil evenly. The mineral oil washed easily off hands. Also, a little bit goes a long way. Unless you are working in food service and treating large quantities of wood, there is no need to by a gallon size jug. I treated both the cutting board and the bowl 4 times, using about 3oz total. And I was pretty liberal with my application. The remainder of the 12oz bottle I purchased will last for quite some time even though it is recommended to treat items one time every 3-4 weeks.
