During my recent upgrade of my WiFi system, one of the key items was the WiFi access point. Based on my previous experience with EAP225 V1/2 I decided to buy this unit (EAP225 V3). I have been very happy with its performance over the past month and a half. My dead spots have reduced and my speed has remained consistent. I have the OMADA controller software installed on my Ubuntu server that runs 24/7 and with the iOS app, I am able to review the statistics whenever I feel like. Now my budget enterprise Internet/Network/WiFi system is a Ubiquitu Edge Router + 2x TPLINK + Trendnet 8 port Managed Switch. With this system I have VLANs with Firewall rules that isolate my IoT devices (Alexas, Google Assistants, Rokus, Apple TV, etc) from my protected devices such as laptops and phones. Not that the system is 100% hacker proof but it does take a bit of work for a hacker to hack into my system.

This is a review for the TP-Link Omada AC1350 Gigabit Ceiling Mount Wireless Access Point. This access point is easy to setup and provides great coverage. You can setup the device directly using its built-in webserver. It will obtain an IP address automatically via DHCP. Once connected, you just need a web browser to connect to it and complete the setup. One downside is that the unit is bulky and rectangular in shape meaning you have to line it up with the ceiling. A round shape would have avoided this step and made it easier to install. Here is a tip of advice -- perform the firmware upgrade before completing the setup. The upgrade process loses all the setup information and youll have to start all over again.

I got 4 of these to put in some offices & setup was kinda honky and weird but simple. Ill know for sure how good they work when my clients use then but the signal was as expected not lightning fast but enough for an office. One of them Im setting up as a gateway but so far havent been able to make that function work, I put the mode in through the app but theres still a separate network listed when searching wifi networks. Hopefully I will find the trick to getting it to function as a gateway withing the main network so server files can be accessed. Al and all they werent that expensive and will do the job as far as I can tell so far

I initially bought EAP610s thinking that since the advertised WiFi 5 speeds were about a gigabit that would be a good match for my home. To my surprise, I could only pull off about 400-500Mbps with those APs on my 2019 Macbook Pro. I researched a bit and found that the Macbook pro supports 3x3 streams while the EAP610 only supports 2x2. So, I thought Id give the EAP660 a try, since that has 4x4. Theoretically it should be able to give me 750Mbps, right? Wrong. Though it was faster, it was only negligibly so: about 500-600Mbps. I dont think the extra $80 per AP is worth it for that small increase, especially since my next Macbook Pro will only support 2x2 (M1 hardware) and should get equivalent speeds on both APs, since both support 802.11ax.

Lots of features and lots of flexibility in this access point. If you dont have a PoE switch/router it comes with the adapter. Looks great on the wall and has significantly enhanced my home network.

Easy to install and configure. Excellent signal quality. However, signal not very strong when you have concrete block walls.

This looked like it was up to the task of a few dozen smart speakers streaming music. Nope. Up to 80-90% utilization on the 5ghz when Im only playing to 10-15 devices at once. Thoroughput is nowhere near what this access point is rated for. I already tried other brands and really wanted to give tplink a shot so I picked up a second access point assuming the lock to AP setting in the controller was a functional setting. Again, nope. Apparently this feature is not yet supported even though it allows you to set and apply it to the access points. This would have solved my primary issue but there is no ETA on when it will work.

Lets start by saying I love TP-Link Products. I have a router, a switch, and Omada hardware controller, and 4 APs currently. I work in the field of IT and I have to tell you this has been by far the worst experience I have ever had. Once I upgraded all my devices to the latest firmware both my units continued to drop clients. Not to mention that the controller without anything connected to it runs a whopping 43%. I could not believe that this new piece of hardware would not work properly. I spent 2 hours with support on chat who finally gave up and said we would continue with email. I mean come on, by email, your chat agent couldnt troubleshoot the issue and we want to move to email support. To say the least, i was extremely disappointed since I wanted this hardware so badly. I am assuming all of you with 5 stars ran this independently but my experience with the Omada controller which. has no issues with any of my other devices was a constant drop of clients with no resolution. It might be this device is too big for PoE and should be plugged in but no mention of anything related to that either. I am considering Ubiquiti as other colleagues of mine never see issues with their hardware but this experience for someone who has invested in this company.
