As I understand it, wifi range is not actually determined by the strength of the signal from the access point, it is limited by the return signal from your phone or other device, which is usually weak. Ubiquiti claims that this long-range model has a more sensitive antenna. Remarkably, it worked much better than any other access point I have tested, in that it eliminated dead spots in our house. Again, I am not referring to the signal strength measured by a phone or laptop. I mean that I am able to communicate both ways (use the web, e-mail, apps, etc) from places in our house where I could not before. Installation was very easy, using the app for basic standalone setup. I am not using a controller or any advanced setup. I have it on a wall rather than on a ceiling, but it works fine anyway throughout a house that has some internal brick walls (old brick house with extensions added later---a tough challenge).

The thing blows the doors off my apple airport extreme. If its really that hard to set up, you can put cucumber tony on it, but I have no problem with the built in firmware and using the iOS app for the one in my house. Ubiquiti makes some cool stuff.

I am pretty good at navigating the basics of PCs and simple networks, and can usually accomplish what I want to do. However, Ubiquiti products are really difficult to configure, and the tech support is byzantine. After weeks, I still dont have the unit up. Not a great product for the layman, unfortunately.

Hooked up as per instruction which did not come in box with item had to get of internet worked for about 30 minutes 1 time after that I had to reset every 10 minutes I returned item

Range is awesome!! Its not so much the transmission - any AP pump out a strong signal, but if the router cant hear the device...
