> 3 dayThe drive is fast, its USB 3 and is considerably faster than the USB 2.0 drives Ive used. Its a little more expensive than other 1TB drives but if it truly is military grade durability it will be well worth it if dropped. I have not dropped it... yet. The only fault I have so far with it, is it comes with a USB cable that is held in a grove wrapped around the drive. So far so good. This cable is very rigid and stiff. I find when I plug it in the stiffness prevents the drive from laying flat and puts stress on the drive connection sometimes causing a bad connection. You can play with the positioning and get it to work but I simply replaced the cable with a more flexible one. Its not quite as thick so it doesnt lock into the grove as well as the one that came with the drive though. So overall Im very satisfied with the one minor issue with the cable.

> 3 dayThis drive is excellent (review includes speed tips). If the USB connector to the drive was a problem, it isnt any more. The metal connector is very wide and connects firmly. Ive never seen the device connector so wide for a USB cable. I havent tested any water/dust/shock proof features. I got it for the USB 3 speed connection and the size upgrade from my WD 250G external HDD. The transfer speeds are fast, but I found that they vary widely depending on the data. If you are transferring mostly fewer large files, like 1 hour HD videos for example - the transfer speed is the fastest. This is because the read/write process is doing less overhead and just copying data. Also, those files tend to be more contiguous on the source drive. Fragmenting is the big issue with the copy speed. My newer bigger folders with larger files transferred faster than folders that have had smaller files accumulated and modified over the last 5 years (5 y/o windows7 pc). There is an easy fix without defragmenting the entire hard drive of the source computer. If you have enough space, just make a new copy of the more fragmented folders (do not delete the old folder yet so they copy to a newer contiguous block of the PC HDD or those files will be written right back to the older more fragmented locations that are freed up - just leave the original folder for a backup or delete it just before you are ready to defrag the entire drive). After making a copy of my older fragmented folder - the transfer speeds to the external drive was about 10x faster - literally. The transfer speed for a 10GB folder of video files was actually faster than it was taking for a folder with 2GB of 1000s of older smaller files until I made a new copy of that folder. This is going to be true of any external drive file copy. All else being equal, the USB3 connection only speeds up the transfer rate if that was where the bottle neck speed was - but it can be the read/write processes and speeds that are slower, not the USB connection (at least for a USB2 and above). The drive is about the same size as my older Western Digital 250GB extHDD (1/4th of the storage capacity) - as far as the metal part without the rubber cover. I really like that the rubber cover holds the cable securely in place. The metal connector is a lot bigger and wider than the connector for my older one. There was no data or apps on the drive. It arrives clean with all space available and ready to copy files to. The downloadable app is optional if you want some automated backup processing (which I would never use, so Im glad its an optional download).

> 3 dayIve had this hard drive for a little over a year, and now Im replacing it. Just to preface this, I never write reviews on Amazon, but I wanted people to know about my experience before deciding to purchase one themselves. Quick background on me - engineering student, technology guy, so I know what Im dealing with. Also an athlete, so Im kind of rough on my backpack. I was looking for a hard drive that could take a couple shots and could be dropped without me having a fear of breaking it. When I found this, I thought I had come across the perfect solution. When I got the hard drive, it looked like the rubber around had been glued on last minute. Not a big deal, because it would still absorb the shock, so I ignored it. However, the connector. Oh, my god, the connector. This is the worst piece of trash I have ever used. First off, the cord it comes with is about 6 inches, so if you move your laptop and the cord shifts, itll disconnect the hard drive. Second, if you want to store your cable around the drive in that rubber holder, be prepared to only use the cord at that angle. Because again, if you move your laptop, itll disconnect the hard drive. I finally bought a six foot USB3.0 cord and thought it solved all of my problems. Then of course, when my leg was shaking under the table (not making contact), the hard drive disconnected. How does that even work? The connection becomes more and more flimsy every time you use it, and I cannot in good conscience allow anyone to spend their money on this. Please do not buy. *12/18/2014 EDIT* changing this to a 1 star. the connector for the cable to the hard drive broke, and Ive now lost 800+GB worth of data. Wonderful.

> 3 dayThis is my second ADAT ruggedized hard drives. My first one was fried by a power surge through my old Mac. Certainly not the fault of the hard drive. I am REALLY rough on my external drives in transport and that drive stood up to the test which is why I bought two more. I bought a 2 TB and a 4. I use it for my macbook Pro and its REALLY easy to format and partition if you want to do that. I HIGHLY recommend this product! Shipping was fast and the packaging was secure.

> 3 dayProduct arrived on time, in good condition to my porch. It is as advertised and the colors are very nicely done. The black in the picture is actually more of a carbon fiber look. My only concern/complaint is, as others have stated, the USB cord included with the product. The cord is very stiff which makes it difficults to position the HD and I wonder how long the built in holder will last. The connection to the HD itself is a special plug i havent seen used before so it may be hard to find a replacement and it doesnt fit snugly a wiggle of the cord and my mac was screaming about not ejecting it properly. 4 stars for build quality and capacity being as advertised. A better cord and def a five star product

> 3 daySo ok.. I dont have the time to leave reviews on stuff.... but this little hard drive Im impressed. Installed it underneath the body of my robot to hold the family movie and music collection. In past reviews some people talked about a lose USB cable but that must have been a old model. This one almost clicks in, its nice. Anyway I ordered a second one. Good job guys nice hard drive.

> 3 dayafter 2 dead harddrives containing all of my media , the 1st died when i dropped something on the table so the 2nd big external drive was on the floor well one day my lava lamp fell on it, i called it a freak accident so i googled shock proof hardrives , saw the price and performance and look and immediately got the blue one with a 5 foot usb extension that was recoommended for me here ( i think these small drives are meant for laptops ) i like the small ones because its easy to bring all my movies and such anywhere i want it looks like it could go to war and come back , its the smallest external drive ive ever gotten its very small compared to the pics here i want to buy another!
