after 2 dead harddrives containing all of my media , the 1st died when i dropped something on the table so the 2nd big external drive was on the floor well one day my lava lamp fell on it, i called it a freak accident so i googled shock proof hardrives , saw the price and performance and look and immediately got the blue one with a 5 foot usb extension that was recoommended for me here ( i think these small drives are meant for laptops ) i like the small ones because its easy to bring all my movies and such anywhere i want it looks like it could go to war and come back , its the smallest external drive ive ever gotten its very small compared to the pics here i want to buy another!

AMENDED: Im giving this 2 stars now because my other Adata external drives continue to work, and the customer service, once it finally kicked in, was okay. It was difficult to get in touch and create the service ticket, mainly because its very unclear what the serial number is and how much of it to use (even though they do try, by providing a picture of various places where it could be and what it should look like. Unfortunately, mine resembled none of those.) They did send an RMA, and I did eventually receive what looks like a completely new replacement. * They did not, however, provide tracking information. They did email me to say it was on its way; however, they also emailed me with another replacement notice, intended for another person at another address. So, the fact that it failed after only four months, coupled with the difficulty in returning it and incorrect information in the email, does not inspire confidence. I purchased a 2 TB external HD April 2022 and have only used it lightly. Based on how well the other Adata Id purchased was performing, I went ahead and got another of the same type and size. The drive began making clicking sounds early October when I tried to do a simple manual backup from a Lenovo Carbon X1, but it seemed to be taking the information all right. Still, clicking is not good. Ran a chkdsk on the drive and it came back saying there were errors. Unplugged the drive, plugged it back in, computer wouldnt recognize it. Tried different cable, tried different computer, nothing. Went to the Adata site, registered, and tried to file a trouble report and request for them to make good on their 1 year warranty. First, the place where they tell you to look for the S/N is incorrect; the actual S/N was on my Amazon receipt. (Which might explain why, on the drive, the numbers had no S/N designation in front of any of them.) Second, very difficult to fill everything in, especially when the only option to note what computer youre using forces you to scroll through about 100 choices - no option to begin typing and have the rest of those names come up. But last, each time I try to use the Contact us form Im told that something is wrong with their system, try again later. Coupled with a note at front saying that due to Covid-19, theyre backed up, I find this very suspicious. Its my assumption that they have no intention to honor any warranty problems. The entire drive was $59, not a huge amount but enough to be annoying. So, caveat emptor. I will not be purchasing Adata again. Several weeks later: Still no response. I dont believe the company has any intention of honoring their warranty. Period.

I get this problem EACH and EVERY time - when I right click on eject the drive, It always says it cannot eject because something is running. I dont get this problem on my other external drives. Im afraid this will not be good for the long life of the drive, and I risk losing my data. Im a bit disappointed :(

This HDD is very light and is powered directly from a USB port. It comes with a USB 3.x cable. It was formatted as FAT32, so I re-formatted it as NTSF so that I can use it to back up my desktop and keep the backup on 1 file, rather than a group of 4GB files. When used on a 3.x USB port, it writes data at close to 1GB/Sec!

This is a second ADATA hard drive that I purchased. The first one was very good, high quality and appeared to be invincible. This hard drive is a much lighter and doesn’t feel as durable and, having some issues with the connection, my laptop takes awhile to recognizing the HD once plugged in. Again I compare the two ADATA HDs. I’m not sure if I would buy it again. For now it meets my needs.

My first urge was to return the drive... But I decided to keep it, since I need it right now. The drive uses a special cable for the USB connection. If you loose the small cable (this drive will be used for travel), you can throw the drive to trash, since you cannot buy such a cable. One end is a regular USB connector while on the drive side it uses a very fancy socket. The only remedy that I see is that you take the enclosure apart and use the hard drive in some regular 2.5 enclosure to recover the data, unless they were so smart to use something else than SATA on the drive. It is probably greed on the part of the manufacturer, since their special spare cable costs probably 50 bucks, or something and it will get to you when you no longer need it. It is hard to imagine that a special socket for USB is needed for anything. It is an old trick of cell phone producers to make unique power supplies more expensive than a phone itself. I only have a drive for a day, so it is hard to say how solid or durable it is.

For 16 months this hard drive (HD710A 2Tb) worked well. Then in early Fall, 2020, the laptop would lose its connection after the drive warmed up. I tried the hard drive on other PCs and it had the same behavior. I reached out to Adata to get an RMA, sent a copy of the purchase invoice/receipt, and provided the model and serial #s. I got a reply back saying the warranty expired based on the date of manufacture. I sent back an email advising that NY state law, and Adatas own web site, state a warranty goes into effect upon the date of purchase, not the date of manufacture. I was then given an RMA #, and the 3 year warranty was going to be honored after all. I cant help but wonder how many folks Adata beats out of getting their rightful warranty claim covered using that underhanded tactic. I am certain it is done that way (trying to base warranty coverage on manufacture data) on purpose to reduce warranty expense.

I cant review this yet. My Seagate died after 10 months, if this is still working after 10 years, Ill review it.
