The good: 1. The rubber portions will protect the drive from high Gs when dropped. 2. Capacity is hight and size is ok (a bit wider than most 2.5 external drives, but thats due to the extra protection. 3. USB 3 cable provided is sturdy The bad: 1. Extremely slow for USB 3, even slower than most other 5400 rpb 2.5 drives. Copying a 500 GB mix of files of all sizes (from 8GB to 4kb files, modelling daily usage) I got an average of 21 MB/sec write transfer rate. Most other drives in this category manage at least 33 MB/sec. The read performance is slow too at an average of 35MB/sec vs other drives that manage up to 60MB/sec. (In case you are wondering, all the maufacturer supplied numbers are absolute max performance numbers and dont reflect real usage). FYI the drive was formatted FAT32 originally but I had formatted it to NTFS before using it, and it was operating on USB3 on a Pro Gamer Machine.) I am having a hard time understanding why people would want to buy this product: it clearly is ruggedized for everyday usage, but people want fast transfers for everyday usage, and any other drive would serve just as well for backups that are normally stored safely and dont need to be ruggedized! 2. The rubber portions are only glued on in 3 or 4 spots on top of a very thin plastic casing underneath. very disappointed at the laziness in manufacturing. 3. The USB3 cable is quiet loose when connecting to the drive AND the PC. Tested with my laptop too, and the issue is with the cable and not my PC USB3 Ports. Conclusion: If you want a backup drive with about 930 MB of capacity (formatted) that could withstand a few bumps, but dont mind very slow transfer rates (at least for USB3) or some manufacturing laziness, you are good. If you are looking for something with the build quality of the ADATA Superior SH93 (from the same manufacturer) or the LaCie Rugged drives this is not your drive though. Also, the supplied cable is really short, so if you dont have a USB3 Hub or need to place the drive more than 5 inches away, try a different product. Rig info for Reference: Asrock Extreme 4 MB with a Core i7 2700K Sandybridge overclocked to 4.5 GHz

I needed backup storage for both my video and data folders and after a lot of research I purchased 2 of these 2 TB drives and am completely satisfied with them. SSD was my initial choice, but I took a second look at conventional HDD as the price difference was enormous. What made up my mind was the ruggedness and small size of the ADATA drive. They are shock resistant and waterproof, that is major, and are a compact size (granted a bit larger than similar capacity SSD) and with a no slip rubber jacket. I just liked what I saw. Performance wise they are fast USB-3. I also have had experience with SSD drives, which are faster, however the ADATA drives are no slouch and for the intended purpose of backups a little extra speed is not an issue and certainly not worth the sizable extra cost. Its important to note that data transfer speed is dependent on many factors besides the type of drive, I seriously doubt in everyday use the average person would see the difference when simply backing up data. To those claiming slow xfer speed I would strongly suggest researching the factors that determine data transfer. Overall I couldnt be happier with my choice.

The only thing I would add to this product is a case. Does exactly what I need.

This is a second ADATA hard drive that I purchased. The first one was very good, high quality and appeared to be invincible. This hard drive is a much lighter and doesn’t feel as durable and, having some issues with the connection, my laptop takes awhile to recognizing the HD once plugged in. Again I compare the two ADATA HDs. I’m not sure if I would buy it again. For now it meets my needs.

I purchased this drive so Id have something rugged and safe to store my pictures on that I could take with me. Something I could throw in my carry-on luggage and not worry about it getting banged around like you would with most hard drives. From that standpoint, its been good. The thing has always been fine getting thrown in a bag and knocked around a bit. That said, there is one MAJOR flaw in the design. The short USB3 cable can be unplugged from the drive, and it is very loose where it attaches to drive itself. Because of the direction of the cables tension, it puts stress on this connection and causes it to get looser and looser over time. After a few months I got to the point where now, any time I plug it in, a slight bump of the drive or the table it is resting on will cause it to wiggle loose enough to lose connection with the drive. Of course, this is akin to unplugging the drive from your computer with out properly ejecting it first, and puts your data at risk every time it happens (which is often). In the end, youre left with a rugged drive that can take a beating, but can lose your data with the slightest bump or nudge to the surface its resting on. Its not even usable on plane rides anymore (the primary purpose I purchased it for) because the vibration of the plane alone will shake the the cable loose of the drive, causing an improper ejection from the computer and sometimes corrupting the data.

This HDD is very light and is powered directly from a USB port. It comes with a USB 3.x cable. It was formatted as FAT32, so I re-formatted it as NTSF so that I can use it to back up my desktop and keep the backup on 1 file, rather than a group of 4GB files. When used on a 3.x USB port, it writes data at close to 1GB/Sec!

Purchased two of these drives, attracted by the strong cases. Both drives failed suddently and almost at the same time, My computers cannot read the drives. All of the data on the drives is uneachable. Terribly frustraing. Dont waste your money or endanger your valuable data with these drives.
