Ive been using this router with the Arris SB8200 1 Gig modem. At first I couldnt tell which was the problem, the router or the modem, as both were new. I saved $80 getting this on sale from Best Buy, so I was forced to keep dealing with them. The 1st router would show a red WAN light, meaning no signal from the modem. I also updated the firmware first thing. Returned it. The 2nd router, I didnt update the firmware, set up everything, and it was working great. I used the app to save my configuration. After a few days, I figured, let me try updating the firmware because its running good. Once updated, I had the red light on/off randomly, and devices would show no connection. I ran the app to load my previous configuration, though it leaves the newest firmware in place. This helped, but once the firmware was updated, it was acting like a new router to my devices. I had to forget the previous network and redo all the device connections. The red light is gone, but the speed isnt as fast. Im not using Qos,or any of the Trend Micro security because it reads everything you do,even emails. Im not returning this for a 3rd time. I have a 1Gig speed, but it acts like its throttled around 500-600Mbps. I would suggest that if you get this unit, dont upgrade the firmware. It works perfectly before that. The Pro version isnt worth the extra $50, btw. Its a SLIGHT increase in the CPU that nobody would notice in real world use. Definitely shop around because some places sell this cheaper and price match can help you out.

I have a 2200 square foot house & this works great. I have always used ASUS routers.

Best Router I could purchase! Really easy to set up, great WiFi signal coverage, I use it with OpenVPN connection, really rare that get disconnected from VPN Server, but a easy reconnect server can solve issue. If youre not afraid of customize your router, you should install Asus Merlin Firmware, gets even better with more options for customization.

The factory/Asus firmware is so buggy that it makes this router nearly useless. Installing Asus/Merlin firmware solves most of the issues.... HOWEVER, this router suffers from wireless failure DAILY. For whatever reason, and without explanation, entire WIFI drops....and the ONLY way to recover is a total reboot of not only the Router.... but also the cable modem from my ISP. Forget asking for tech support! I waited 3 days, and then got a canned email saying that someone would get back to me soon..... that was 3 days ago...and still nothing from support. I quit using Netgear products because they blackmail owners for tech support, and now Asus isnt any better. Looks like I may have to go with TP Link, as I am running out of choices for routers and other network hardware that offers any level of reliability.

PRODUCT REVIEW:Just what I was looking for in a router, easy set up with lots of bells and whistles to assist in learning about a home network. WORD OF WARNING: If you are not already knowledgeable about various network and router settings, or you are looking for a simple router to set and forget, you might be better served looking for another product.

Wifi signal is junk. I have old netgear router and get at least 800mbps. Removed router and installed asus. Same place, same settings- signal is 82mbps. Router is garbage, do not waste money. Also app looks like trash and very messy. Same about router interface.

Works really well! I havent had any problems with the signal dropping its maintained its strength throughout my entire home which is about 2500 square ft. I use it for wireless VR gaming and its flawless! I would definitely suggest it and would buy a Asus router again in the future. Really easy to set up and the app for your phone is great!

Update: Installed an ssd on one of the USB3.0 ports. NTFS format write speed 50 MBs and Read 112 MBs. Megabytes per second. Connected to router by WiFi 6 with wire speed of 2.4 / 2.0 Gbs. File server attached to 2.5G port still working at 200 MBs with no errors. Over 2TB transferred over last couple of months. Works extremely well. WiFi to 2.5G port allows 200MBs file transfers on the local network. Allowing on WPA3 devices to connect limits what devices can even attempt to access this router. Very good security and fast speeds. Signal strength is better than my other Wifi6 router. Both connect at 2.4Gbs but this one transfers files on the local network more than twice as fast and it does NOT slow down.

It’s very fast and with the mesh WiFi6 it has excellent coverage. Gaming is way better than wifi5. It’s easy to setup and has a helpful app that shows real time speeds.
