For my application the mesh isnt necessary, and the coverage is great for a 2000 sq. ft. home (single floor). Ive been in the IT field for over 30 years and this thing is top notch.

This router was easy to setup, awesome features, long range, and handles many wireless devices connected at once. I was attracted to this router as being the only router that I could find that offered a free lifetime subscription of an antivirus (Trend Micro). It gives a better feeling to surf the web knowing that I have an added layer of protection on all of my devices. This is a must have router!

10/17/22: Updated to 5 stars. Original firmware this router came with was 3.0.0.4.386.41700 which was frustrating dropping the internet connection daily (DHCP WAN issue). Upgraded to firmware 3.0.0.4.388.20518 and its been stable so far! Will post updates as I have more time to test it thoroughly. The addition of VPN fusion support is a win too! I did not use the web interface or app to update the firmware automatically. Downloaded the firmware from Asus website. Reset the router to factory defaults. Plugged in a PC via ethernet cable then updated firmware. Reset the router to factory defaults again, disabled Smart Connect/band steering, then manually configured the router to account for older devices on my network (up to MCS 9 256 QAM for 2.4 Ghz and left 5 Ghz on Nitro/1024 QAM). Im playing things a bit safe with those settings but your mileage may vary depending on the devices on your network.

We upgraded our FIOS box and also purchased the Verizon Fios Router G3100. The same day, we started to experience frequent wifi drops...like never before. Two full time WFH jobs and 2 full remote kiddos with every 5-10 min drops was a nightmare needless to say. Verizon can only say everything looks good on our end after rebooting router and their main box. They never once asked I wonder if the router is defective or knew anything about the router to begin with. 5 Days in, talking to different agents, we got the same responses. We knew we had to take matters into our own hands and looked into getting a new router asap. Then came this Asus router (I was pleasantly surprised the hubby chose this one as all my laptops are Asus Zenbooks), and at first, our hope was crushed as the red light remained red 15 mins in the installation (which meant plugging it in and waiting for lights to change) BIG SIGH, but then the hubby said let me try one more thing - he had to plug the ethernet cable into the router and play with the router settings on the laptop - then the magic white (green?) lights came on and the red light disappeared. Whoohoo! Then more excitement as we tested the speed on our devices, walking around the house, all the way on the other end of the house and no drops, wifi signal remained strong. As I write this - it has been 5 full days of wifi bliss. Thank you Asus router. Stay away from Verizon G3100!

I have both A1 and A1.1 hardware revisions. It is mentioned on the white sticker on the router box.

I was willing to spend for a good router. This is more pricy as used for gaming and high usage. Its really good and works well

Bugs... My main reason for upgrading my router to an AX capable one is to see improved speeds from wired LAN to my 5Ghz enabled desktop. There is a bug that prevents traffic from passing from 5Ghz to LAN and LAN to 5Ghz. You cannot even ping across the interfaces. If you switch to 2.4Ghz pings work, computers can see each other. If I was only browsing the internet this would not be a problem for me. However I routinely move very large files around. Both stock firmware and Merlin firmware have this bug. This is not the first AX router Ive seen this issue on. Beware if you need this function!

No problems with ≈30 IOT devices (2 months in). Good coverage & speeds (I have 200mbps in an apartment complex and have no real problems achieving those speeds). The one thing that is kind of odd, since I use the IFTTT integration, is that the router doesn’t store a list of all the devices that have ever connected — only currently connected devices, which even my DSL router from the early 2000’s did - kind of an odd choice in my opinion. So if you want to set up an IFTTT application, you need to make sure that device is connected to the network before you can select it.
