    Greater than one week

I’ve had other ASUS products in the past, and have been very pleased. This product does not live up to the hype. But I’m most disappointed in their customer support.

After setting this up, including finding what I thought was a good location for the satellite router, all was working fine... for awhile. I enjoyed not having to rely on my range extender with my old router and connections to the new wi-fi network were seamless, even as I moved around the house. Then after a couple of weeks, the two routers lost connection with each other. Not only that but the main router refused any connection for managing it, via the app or the web interface. The only way to regain control was to power cycle the main router. Following this, the 2 routers had to be placed near each other again in order to reestablish their relationship. Once done, I placed the satellite at a new location, closer to the main router, then optimized the connection for the new spot. Again, all seemed well, until they lost site of each other again. The same things all over again. I repeated this dance for a few days, then decided to try a wired backhaul connection. Much to my surprise, the same disconnect eventually happened with the wired backhaul. Fortunately I had a couple of days left in Amazons 30-day return policy and the package is currently on its way back.

I really, really wanted to like this mesh system. When they worked properly I got the best wifi speeds Ive ever seen. However, it was much more common for me to see IoT devices disconnecting, periods of no internet on other devices (smartphone, laptop, smart tv) and other annoyances with restarts and signal issues. Not to mention ASUS hasnt issued a firmware update since this hardware was released. Ill wait until Wifi 6E matures and the offerings become better before dipping my toes back into it. My Orbi system worked great and I will be going back to it.

This unit was blazing fast. For a week. And then it would restart every 10 minutes. For an entire day I tried a myriad of steps. Removing devices from my network, using the base router only, turning off some of the software features, and finally a complete factory reset. And then I noticed a review on another retail site posted the day after I purchased this unit from a user reporting the EXACT same problem. Worked great....until it didnt. Unit was in a cool room so it was not a heating problem. Asus used to be my preferred vendor for standard routers but this unit is boxed up to go back and a competitors unit is in its place. My wife works from home a couple days a week and fortunately today was not one of them but I cant have unreliable equipment on my network.

Were having the same issues weve had with every ASUS router.

I purchased the ET8 mesh pair because it was so highly reviewed. I replaced an Amplifi mesh system that is apparently no longer supported and was not performing very well. Pre-purchase, I saw instructions for setting up a DMZ (controlled zone for untrusted or unsecured smart devices), so I figured it would match the functionality I was used to. Not so much.

When it worked, it was great. Super fast, good signal strength, all the things... Even a great mobile app (I think so anyway).

I did play around a bit with the location of the 2nd mesh router, but once optimized, it worked amazingly.

If you have FIOS do not get this system. Like the previous Wifi 6 system this will not work as expected with a FIOS ONT. Downloads will achieve maximum speed but uploads will be a fraction of what you would expect. I have a 1GB symmetrical (down and up are the same) plan and uploads never pass 100mbit on speedtests. They stay around 50mbit. If you search the internet and forums most newer ASUS routers will not work correctly with FIOS ONT and this has been happening for over a year. ASUS has done nothing to fix this. Please look for another solution to save yourself a headache if you have a high speed FIOS internet plan. I am promptly returning this mesh system.

I had a T-Mobile branded Asus router and it worked great for years. It was solid with a very good user interface. I would rarely lose connection with that router.
