> 3 dayEasy to setup, just be sure to read the directions properly. Be aware this model (J1010) is wireless only although you can attempt to set a wired connection through the telephone line port on the left, but it might be cumbersome and a bit more risky to your network. I also recommend getting one of those pressurized air cans to ensure your document feeders run smoothly. One thing to note is when you set up the printer and it asks you to try out the scanner and redirects you to a site to sign up for a Brother account - make sure you arent enrolling into their ink subscription as well. I almost made that mistake but instead just created a general account without the subscription by going to the main site. The app is great as well. The prices through the Brother Mobile Connect for ink is quite good but I dont see myself needing to print a lot. I mostly plan to scan, but if I do need ink, Ill definitely buy direct through Brother. If anyone wants it, I can update on how fast the ink runs out. Highly recommend this affordable and quite cute all-in-one printer :)

> 3 dayI was hesitant to get this one because there were so many much more expensive options. Also saw a few reviews showing the ink cartridges not working, etc. Took my chances anyway and so far no issues! Did notice that after I pushed in the ink cartridges during setup, it asked me to push the click button down to release and then click the ink back in. This made the printer recognize the cartridges and it worked just fine. I did not have to install any software or anything to get my work laptop to find the printer via wifi. Honestly setup took maybe 15 minutes. I’m not planning to print photos or anything. Just general work information here or there so as long as this keeps working it’s exactly what I needed.

> 3 dayI just got this and this is my initial reaction. TOo much software/firmare updates. Feels cheaply made. I couldnt find any off-brand ink so stuck with overly expensive Brother ink.

> 3 dayWe have had two Canon Pixma printers that have been sub-par and didnt withstand heavy use in our homeschool. This printer is amazing in comparison to those - prints almost instantly, good ink quality, even appreciate the lit-up screen in comparison to the Canon which didnt have that. Its not going to be as good as a laser printer, but for $100 this is a great buy.

> 3 dayThe black ink has been out for about a month now with no restock date. This machine is a useless paperweight since there is no black ink in stock anywhere. Dont waste your time either because brother will not help

> 3 dayI didnt realize what a lousy deal this was until I needed to get Black ink. Places where the price is reasonable are out of stock. Amazon prices are outrageous. Two thumbs down!

Honestly Though
> 3 dayI have just one complaint with this printer so far. It seemed to be working well for my basic needs, but then I had a project that required double sided printing. I figured Id just manually place the sheet back on the paper feed to do the other side, no big deal. However after doing so twice it began showing a paper jam error. No matter how many times I checked, shifted, and even completely removed and reinserted the paper stack, the error refused to clear. It wouldnt even let me turn off the printer. Finally in desperation I pulled the plug. After plugging it back in, it worked great... until I again tried to feed a freshly printed page back in by placing it in top of the stack in the paper feeder. The jamming error came up again. This time I immediately unplugged the printer and plugged it back in--worked fine. Clearly no jam. After doing this dance 5 times in a row I knew there was no question its a consistent bug and I gave up. Other than that, its been a great printer so far. Also do be advised the ink cartridges it comes with are pretty small.

> 3 dayThis printer/scanner is FAR better than I imagined. The build quality is just fine and maybe a step above what Id expect for the price but the features and software you get to customize it, wow. Very productive and very good print quality too. The self-feeder for making copies of sheets of paper is another unexpected feature for this price. I honestly cant believe it. Im super happy with it!

> 3 dayLet’s start with what’s good so far. It’s fast and it’s all in one. The bad: clunky menu and the worst part as mentioned in the title is network availability. Once the printer goes to sleep, it can’t be accessed anymore until someone physically presses the button. I believe that Brother’s app is supposed to be able to work if you’re not in the same WiFi network. But what’s the use if you’ve gotta use it within one hour since it was last active. That’s ridiculous. The only good thing about the Canon printer I had was that it could be configured to be available on the network always. I had ranted about this to Brother’s tech support, telling them to incorporate that feature in the next firmware update. They just said they’ll think about it. FOOLS! The printer does have an Ethernet connection as well so at least if the printer had wake-on-lan would help.
