> 3 dayWhen will I learn. Ive used other GE SmartThings compatible devices before, switches, indoor/outdoor outlets mostly. Sometimes they connect right away sometime they take multiple repeated attempts, and in the case of this device, it never was recognized by my SmartThing hub. My recommendation is to stay away from GE devices , I tried this one in desperation, its the only device of this type I could find for my desired use. Other Z-Wave compatible brands have been excellent, they just dont carry the variety of devices I need, come on Samsung, get some devices on the market!

> 3 dayThis review is written on the Gen 2 product and mirrors my Gen 1 review. I have used the Gen 1 version for a couple of years. It works fine and has excellent range, although I do have repeaters (Aeotec) around the house. The Gen 2 is about $9 more currently (May 2020). This time I bought a Gen 1 and a Gen 2 and tried them out on an outlet outside and about 100 from my house. Both worked fine. The Gen 2 is smaller, maybe one-third smaller. The Gen 2 has an indicator light on the front which can be programmed to be on when switch is off or vice versa. Thats a nice plus as with Gen 1 you have to just listen. Gen 1 also has a nice cover over the outlet while Gen 2 does not. So unless one of the features of the Gen 2 is something you require, smaller size or the status light, for the money, Id stay with the Gen 1 for the time being.

> 3 dayWorked perfect and connected to my z-wave without issue. The unit is part of a home automation system controlling landscape lights.

Greater than one weekPurchased this to use with, what I thought was a 400 watt roof heating mat. Found out the mat is 500 watts and therefore could be a problem using the smart outdoor plug. So we used it for Christmas lights outside and it is so easy to use and get set up. Now the lights are all controlled from inside, or anywhere, with my phone. Never had an outside smart plug before and now that is all I will be using.

> 3 dayIt worked well. Then, after two years, the blue light on top began clicking on and off; and it quit working. I discovered, after reading the reviews, that this smart plug commonly dies after two years. It’s a shame companies appear to purposefully build products that fail after the warranty expires, hoping customers will buy the product again. I won’t.

03-04-2025I now own two of these. Each time I had trouble pairing (just enough time in between purchases that I forgot how). It isn’t as intuitive as other Z-wave devices and there is no indication once it is in pairing mode. After initial pairing, both have worked great. They are outdoors in the elements with no issues.

> 3 dayI set this up in less than 5 minutes and it works fine. However, the 4 cord isnt long enough to allow it to be mounted flat on a wall next to the outlet. I have to let it hang by its cord when plugged in. If it had a 90-degree plug, then it might be long enough to mount. Aside from the cord length, its very good.

> 3 dayIve used GE/Enbrighten switches and plugs throughout my home for the last 5 years. They work great with SmartThings... until they die. Last year, one of the wall switches went. When they die, they make a distinctive click-click-click like a ticking clock. Not a huge deal I thought - just buy a newer model switch and swap it out. Things die sometimes. Fast forward to today, and this smart plug started in doing the same. Totally no functional, just getting the click of death when its plugged in. One failure is not a huge deal. Two? Im starting to wonder if Im going to soon be ripping out umpteen switches and plugs. Not cool.
