> 3 dayI just installed it today and so far Im really impressed. The quality is great but Ill update this if I ever notice any discoloration or other issues. I also didnt use the included buttons, more out of personal preference. The included ones look fine though. Consider buying another button set color before you disassemble it. After you install one, you probably wont want to do it again. A few tips Im not sure Ive seen others mention yet... - Set aside a bright space and some time to work. It can take 1-5 hours depending on your tech savviness and how delicate you can be. - Watch the youtube video once all the way through at 2x speed just to see the process, then watch it slower and pause step by step as you go. Its not hard but its tedious, so you should know what youre getting into. - Keep track of where each screw goes, and then make sure to use the same size from the new kit. I accidentally used too long of a screw in a joycon and I made a small bump on the front surface. Much farther and it would have been a hole. - I dont think the included screwdriver was bad, the real issue is the Switchs original screws, especially on the back plate of the switch body. But it helped having a second magnetic precision screwdriver set because youll be switching back and forth between phillips and tri wing a lot as you disassemble it. I used my own Y0 screwdriver for the trickier ones, with a rubber band. - Use a wide rubber band between the tri tip screw and screwdriver to give it more to bite onto. Dont wait until you already started stripping it, do this for every screw. Trust me. - Test buttons as you put it back together, not only at the end, to make sure theyre aligned correctly. I had problems with this a few times. The same goes for docking the joycons on the body; I had the release button turned 90° and it didnt lock correctly. - Since the shell holes arent threaded, dont overtighten them. When screwing directly into the shell, turn it just until you start to feel a little more resistance. Do what you can to avoid unscrewing and rescrewing in the same spot, because its easy to strip the plastic. - Last, squeeze the joycon shell together before you set the last 4 screws to make sure things are aligned, especially the ZR/ZL and any stray ribbon cables. (dont force it!)

> 3 dayMan dont even bother with the screwdriver kit that comes with the box. Just buy a nice small electronic/switch repair kit that goes for about $20 and will actually fit into the cheap Y-wing screws currently installed into your switch. The screwdriver that come with this product WILL strip your screws, particularly the ones on the backplate. Turned a 1 hr project into a 3 day one as I tried everything to get the shell off and finally resorted to having an electronics repairman drill the screws out for me so I could finish the job. In the end, I do appreciate the finished look and the fact that this kit comes with plenty of extra screws for you.

> 3 dayThis product is exactly what I had imagined it to be! The soft touch is a significant step up from Nintendos original cold, smooth shell that gathered fingerprints and hand oils way too well. This shell is easier to hold onto, and is basically just a joy to have in my hands. I love the light pastel pink and have even purchased additional sakura covers for my joysticks and a sakura pink case to match! Im ordering a clear case to put over it in order to slow down the shell wearing down overtime/protect it from outside debris, dirty grabby hands (I have younger cousins and siblings who sometimes borrow my switch lol), and overall to just keep this shell safe! I love it too much. It took me around four to five-ish hours to disassemble my original switch and put in the new sakura shell. While my heart was beating a mile a minute as I disassembled and I was super anxious (and worried Id ruin the inner contents of my switch by accident and make it unable to work), I realized it wasnt all as bad as I thought it would be. The screwdriver that came with the ExtremeRate shell wasnt too good (it was just a screwdriver handle with two separate screws to put in and switch out), so I purchased Youniks Nintendo Screwdriver set and everything was all good! Youniks set came with multiple magnetic screwdrivers of different sizes, picks, pliers, and many other handy stuff an amateur like me needed. With the right tools, patience, and pressure, the screws are all able to be taken out with ease (for those who want to purchase their own screwdrivers, get a Y00 and a Y2.0 triwing screwdriver and a 2.0 Phillips screwdriver. I hardly used the Y2.0 triwing, but it helped whenever I got close to stripping screws). I frankly believe a lot of the stripped screws people are talking about are partly because of user error (not enough pressure used, impatience, or frustration) but then again, my switch didnt have any glued down screws or anything. At times I occasionally stripped some screws halfway, and this is when Id refer to my Younik kit and use a larger screwdriver. Again, with enough pressure I was able to get out the stripped screws and put them back in again fine! When youre unscrewing and you fear youre starting down the path of stripping them, pause and take a deep breath and move on to another screw. This helped me multiple times when working on the back of my switch, as I didnt become frustrated and I didnt keep trying to do it while annoyed and possibly ruining it further. By the time I got back to the almost stripped screw, I had enough practice from the other screws and used what I learned to take this one out (again, use some pressure! At times I had to push a little hard!) Using ExtremeRatess youtube guide really helped me on this and I highly suggest using the video as you go, pausing and rewinding as much as you need. However, the video has a few things you might want to look out for: you dont have to unplug the ribbon cables at all! Simply unscrew everything, treat everything very gently and make sure nothing heavy (like the battery) weighs too heavily on the cables. One of my batteries and both of the white boxes beneath them were held down with tape, but gentle, slow prying got them out soon enough. Just make sure to know what youre pulling at when youre pulling, and make sure to do so slowly. Remember, its better to spend a lot of time doing something right than it is to do something quickly and do it wrong. Regarding ExtremeRates buttons, I wasnt too much of a fan of them. They had a louder clicking sound than Nintendos original buttons, and the ZL/ZR buttons had the engraved letters really close together to the point that they touched and it looked like it said some weird hidden alphabet letter. Not only that, but the ZL and ZR buttons were too long/big and when I put the joycon shell on, it left a pretty significant gap that made it super easy to actually look inside my joycon from the outside/for things to someday get stuck inside. So I ended up using the original Nintendo buttons, which fit so much better and kept that light, soft clicking sound that I find so much more pleasing. I dont mind that the right joycons buttons have white lettering, it actually is a lot easier for me to see them! Aside from that, this shell is amazing and Im so happy with my purchase. Maybe one day when this shell wears out (Im assuming it will after a few years, this is only natural!) Ill use another ExtremeRate shell!

> 3 dayI loved everything about these shells, however I’m lucky I bought a separate kit because not only did the screwdriver part ruin my screws, it broke entirely. But I’m very satisfied with the shells. (Bought thumb grips separately)

> 3 dayI got the Sakura Pink Soft Touch shell kit with a white button set from the same company in July. This kit was pretty nice, everything came as described and the shells fit nicely flush with no weird gaps. It comes with everything necessary to disassemble your switch, but I used my own screwdriver set as the screwdrivers that came with the set were a bit hard to tension correctly against the tri-wing screws & arent magnetized. The tri-wing screws strip very easily so I would recommend getting a YOO screwdriver with a spinning end to make sure youre not attempting to unscrew them at an angle. Installation time took about two-three hours and if you have steady hands you do not have to pull the ribbons cables out of their respective slots. The only annoying part of the disassembly/assembly process is the spring underneath the L/R buttons, as it likes to pop-out on its own and requires some careful handling. After about a month of use, the color and finish hasnt worn off and the shell still looks and feels pretty great. The kickstand that comes with this set is also way better then the kickstand that came with the Switch out of the box - being way easier to pull-out if you need to pull it out often.

> 3 dayIt requires a bit of know-how to swap the shells on joycons and some time and patience. But in the end it works great. Great feel. If you want to go the extra mile, there is software to make your switch show that color when they are attached to the system.

> 3 dayAwesome product, easy DIY project. Took about an hour, everything you need is included; screwdrivers, and unexpectedly a full set of additional hardware. The spring came in handy lol. Another bonus is my system seems to be working better than ever, probably due to the fact that i was able to clean the dust filter, but also very likely due to the material used for the backplate. Better cooling? Better performance? Love it! I bought this and i was so happy with it i had to write a review immediately. Literally same day i got it, i ordered another shell kit for my other set of joycons. This time im getting the d pad model. Again super happy with this product. Well done

> 3 dayI read a lot of reviews and watched many tutorials before buying this because I wanted to make sure it was as easy as I hoped. I am moderately technical savvy. I’ve replaced several phone parts, and have a partially custom PC, but I wasn’t sure if these unnaturally tiny pieces would prove too much for me. Fortunately, it was one of the smoothest applications I’ve ever had. I read that I should purchase better tools, but even though I purchased both at the same time, this kit came before the tools, so I figured I’d try to use the tools that do come in the kit and stop if anything bad started happening. The tools looked just like the tools in the YouTube tutorial and were very well made! I did the entire installation with the tools from the kit without even coming close to stripping a screw. The only thing I’d hoped for was a functioning magnet because it very rarely picked anything up. It did take a little over 3 hours for the entire ordeal. I was very slow and patient, and used a set of nice tweezers most of the time. I do have small hands, so someone with average to large hands might have a difficult time with the small screws. They do provide extra screws and springs, which is very thoughtful. I watched the entire YouTube video BEFORE I even started and then played it at 0.5x speed through the installation with a lot of pausing. All in all, I’m very satisfied with how installation went and it looks so cute!

> 3 dayEverything about this product was perfect. However, Nintendos cheap Y screws are crap. Gladly replaced the screws once I got em out, with the provided tools and extras given. I’ll be buying another color way soon. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting it. Fair warning, be careful with the Y screw, they’ll easily muck up an install.

> 3 dayThe shell is perfect, it feels solid is almost identical thickness to the original and the color is just how it is in the product picture! My only major complaint is that the the included Tri-point screwdriver broke, I had just finished putting the joycons together when all of a sudden the tip snapped, I had to look around and buy another Tri-point screwdriver to be able to finish replacing the rear shell. Other minor thing is the kickstand is pretty stiff, but other than that its all good! Well see how the shell holds up overtime but honestly Im pretty happy with the end result and I would buy again from them.
