The Faber Castell Pencils arrived in pristine condition. The tin of 120 pencils were shrink-wrapped in plastic and then placed in a perfectly sized cardboard box. That box was then placed in a packing box with packing pillows to make sure the pencils would not be damaged. I appreciate the care that was given in packing my purchased item. The pencils are beautiful! They look pretty, and perform exactly as I expected. They lay down a creamy layer that blends easily with other colors. They keep a sharpened point longer than other pencils, and the lead doesn’t break when sharpening. These pencils are exactly what I wanted and have dreamed of getting.

I couldnt believe how well these pencils worked. I had a set of Prismacolor Premiers, and though they are good and have nice vibrant colors, they do tend to have a wax bloom after two to three layers. I have no such problem with the Faber Castell Polychromos. The only issue I have with the Polychromos is the metallic colors gold, silver, and copper. They seemed scratchier, and the colors did not seem to be as bright. But, if you want to get around this, buy the Faber Castell Metallic Pitt Artist Pens. These come in a set of three pens: gold, silver, and copper. As these three pencils are the only ones I have an issue with, and I can work around this with the Pitt Artist Pens, I will give these pencils Five stars. Three out of 120 is a very low percentage.

This is probably an outlier, but I went through nearly half of a pencil before I got the sharpness to where it was close to what I wanted. The lead inside fell out in large chunks while sharpening. I was using a brand new sharpener and sharpening very slowly with great care. The pencil core was broken inside on quite a few of the colours that I wanted to use. This is certainly just an issue with the handling, but I am very dissatisfied with the quality of the pencils in this particular tin. I am certain this was a worker at the packing warehouse that just tossed the tin around. I had to force the top closed a couple times when I first opened it because it was slightly bent. However, the colours that werent busted inside were wonderful! These are easily one of the top contenders for best pencils that I have used. I will be purchasing more for sure.

I’ve tried several brands of colored pencils, for relaxing coloring in adult coloring books, nothing major or pro. It is true that you get what you pay for. Prior to these, the best I used are the Prismacolor premieres, 2 diff kinds of Staedleter, a lower tier Faber Castell(which are great & have awesome color-laydown), every level of crayola, & various quality but generic types. I’d been dying to try these, the Fab.Cas. Polychromos. Just to start w/, I bought the 12 pack that comes in a neat thin metal case. The colors are pretty much vibrant, they lay down well, though a bit too heavy imo,as I find I can’t color a light shade w/ them, it’s either to rich or nothing. Also, they’re too thick for my taste, the entire penicil I mean, as well as the leads, just somewhat too thick. Truth be told, some common normal colors, such as a few blues, pink, orange, are not my favorite, whereas in other brands typical colors to me look nicer. Not too sure now if I’ll go for any of the bigger sets, the 24/36/60 etc. I do still honestly think that Faber-Castell is a top notch top of the line brand. High Quality. Unless I received a set that may have been exposed and left to high heat, or what have you, causing my pencils to not function the way they’re meant to, I believe they may be either a little overrated or, very overpriced.

After much research, I decided on the Faber Castell Polychromos Colored Pencils (120 set). Although I am not a professional artist, but a hobby card maker, I find these pencils to be an excellent quality! Blending or building colors on one another works very well and using the white/cream pencils to create some highlights work great too. I understand paper/cardstock types can make a big difference when using pencils -- something with more tooth is preferable. The pencils stay fairly sharp after several uses, nice quality lead and barrel, and they fit in your hand nicely as well.

I own many sets of colored pencils including Prismacolor, Marco Raffine, Sudee Stile and Colore. These pencils resemble the feel better of the Prismacolors but the thing I love about them is the color palette. My favorite coloring books are the Kew Gardens coloring books, but I needed pencils that had a more natural pallette with subtle hues that would lend themselves to those pages. These pencils are perfect! They contain a very large selection of greens and lovely pinks and corals. If you are looking for pencils that contain colors that are closer to those found in nature, then this is the set for you.

My fiancee absolutely loves these. So many color choices and great coloring feel. Her only complaint is that shes going to go through them so fast and cringes when she has to sharpen one. The trays have elastic straps on the sides to make it easy to remove them to get to the other pencils, and the case itself is very nice. Excellent pencils!
