These are amazing. My favorite quality of these pencils besides how they lay down beautiful rich color is they are named actual pigment names. So if you have ever painted, youll be familiar with these colors. If you want to use mixed media, you can choose cadium or ultramarine blue pencils and pair them with cadmium or ultramarine blue watercolors. Also when blending, you will already know which colors blend well to create other colors. I have a set of Prismacolor premium pencils that I love but I wanted to diversify my colors. After TONS of research I decided to save up for this 120 piece set. Like Prismacolor, they have deep saturating color. The difference is it takes much less pressure to achieve that saturation. They are soft and easy to color with but they are also harder...Its hard to explain. Less color comes off the pencil but it is just as deep as Prismacolor. They will last longer because of this. No more sore fingers! The leads spread color like butter but doesnt disintegrate doing it. They feel smooth and stable gliding across your paper not dry and scratchy or rubbery and sticky. They also keep a nice point. They do not cover up black outlines with a cloudy waxy build up. They can be sharpened with a regular pencil sharpener although they are slightly thicker than my other colored pencils from other brands. They have a more substantial feel in your hand. If I find myself using another brand for a while and coming back to these, I immediately can feel the more dense and solid feel of them. They also come in a beautiful tin box with nice, solid, stable dividing trays. I thought nothing could get better than prismacolor, but these Polychromos do. Ill be using both sets together. They do mix well but the palette are different so you add more to your pallet.

I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE these pencils! They glide on, are so easy to blend, and make everything come out more vibrant! Made with oil instead of wax, it comes out looking like somewhat like a cross between a watercolor painting and a richer oil painting. I owned about 10 that I bought separately, and couldnt wait to receive the rest of the colors. If you celebrate your own birthday, as I do mine, by being able to buy myself something special from myself, youll want to to celebrate early ( I ordered mine a month earlier than my Birthday) as soon as youre finished reading this review. While the wax pencils definitely have their place and can be blended with the oil in these pencils, the FaberCastell wins the triple crown without having to think twice about it! So order yours now - even if your birthday is 6 months away. Easily, the best in show!

It is actually my first time to use professional color pencils. I was super excited on the day that the package was delivered. this set of color pencils is incredibly beautiful!! And you would definitely smell their rich fragrance when you open the case!!! I am very unprofessional and I never learned any drawing lessons but these pencils are pretty easy to control and brought all effects that I expected! You can easily overlay as many colors as you can and the whole picture would still look so natural and smooth! I never tried other brands so I wont say Faber castell has the best color pencils but they are excellent!! So glad I chose to purchase this as my first set of color pencils!!! You can see how amazing the effects these pencils made according to the following photos that I attached. The only downside is that this brand seems to miss some very basic colors so it may take time to combine more than two colors to find the exact color you want. Besides this, they are perfect!!! I will try color pencils from other brands in order to make a comparison :)

the box is metalic, the pencils are good material, the bases for the pencils are ropes for helping extract the complete line.

Oil based pencils offer blending you dont get with wax based pencils. Gives you rich, well blended colors. Good price, well packaged, prompt delivery. Good transaction, thank you.

New comment: dont know why I love them...but I do! Id give them a 5, except they have a fault which is a pretty serious one (below). First, what I love about them is the laydown. As much as I love PrismaColors, they tend to go down heavy. Having that buttery laydown and being able to layer colors and burnish - all great characteristic to have, and I think Prismas do all these much better that Polychromos. But, when you dont want full color laydown, but would rather have a rougher laydown, with some paper exposed behind the color - Polychromos are great for that. They erase much more cleanly, too, probably because they arent as heavy & waxy. Its hard to describe, but the laydown is really nice & you can get great effects. Where these are also way superior to Prismacolors is that the lead doesnt break when you sharpen it. Many Prisma users know the frustration of literally sharpening away 4 of pencil, just trying to get a workable point...you give up on trying to get a sharp point, you just want something you can apply to the paper, you can truly lose 1/2 the pencil length just on 1 sharpening session. (btw - if you have a breaker try microwaving the pencil for about 7 seconds...carefully - they get hot fast & you can blister the paint, but if you soften the lead & then leave it & let it cool you can firm up the broken sections, oftentimes.) Anyway, Polychromos tend not to have that problem, in my experience. The drawback is the STREAKING. The lighter colors frequently streak darker colors (yellow, for example, will suddenly streak red). It happens with the lighter colors - not constantly but regularly. This occurs because they arent mixing the wet lead thoroughly enough - during manufacturing the scraps or other reworks are frequently mixed into a new batch of lead...a perfectly legitimate thing to do - but if you dont those pieces thoroughly, its like mixing colored sprinkles into cake batter, you get flecks or pieces of color in the finished product. Great when its a cake, not so much when its on your artwork! This is a pretty bad issue...if it wasnt for the streaking thing, Id give these pencils 5 stars easy!! I bought the 36 set some months ago, Im graduating up to the 120 because they are nice pencils!! Prisma still rates #1...but these are a pretty close 2nd!

I really LOVE these colored pencils. I have Prismacolor, Derwent Chromoflow, Caran Dache, and now these. I love that they keep their sharpness longer, the colors are rich, layerable and blendable. I also used them on wood and wow, their oil based pigment mixture layed down easy and looks very vibrant. Great puchase.

So I bought the gold fabers 12 pack before this and they are a bit better and a fraction of the price. Although w the (PC’s) you do get a thicker and creamy smoothness... I still think the goldfabers give these a run for the money. Either are great! But I’ll most likely be purchasing the 24 pack of goldfabers instead.

I’m on a retired fixed budget, so I saved up for theses colored pencils..only to be disappointed.....I posted one of my art pieces drawn on dura-lar using Polychromos..I used a whole roll of duralar trying different brands of colored pencils, and I least liked Polychromos on duralar....maybe its the duralar that is not a good match for these pencils, I don’t know, but the duralar is like a magical material for other brands of colored pencil....many of these pencils would just not lay down color onto the duralar without added pressure, and when using duralar, pressure can quickly damage the minimal tooth. The pencil was not soft & creamy like other brands. Ive only used polychromos on duralar, so my review is coming from limited polymchromos experience. But, my first time out the gate with these pencils, was not impressive nor productive. I put these pencils away in their box, and in my cupboard. I might find another use for them later on???.

I love these pencils so much and they are worth every penny. My son and I enjoy using them for all of our coloring, drawing, and creative projects. They are very well-made with very hard lead, so when you sharpen them carefully they do not break and will last quite a while. The color is so vivid and it is amazing to see the effects and hues you can create with multiple layers of colors and different blending techniques. These are adding some fun and imagination to our days as we stay home and stay safe. I did not spring for the wood box and really wish it was available to purchase separately when we are ready.
