> 3 dayI really love these pencils. They are my very favorite brand of wax based colored pencils and work very well together with the harder oil based Pablo pencils, and the Museum Aquarelles, also made by Caran dAche. The name luminance aptly describes these pencils, as anything colored with them seem to look illuminated from within, rather than leaving a flattened out look that harder tipped pencils can sometimes leave. I like to use my Luminance for most of my color blocking, and then the Pablos to finish filling in the tooth of the paper in selective areas, then a final burnish with their blender pencil. They also allow you to create a really beautiful, natural look by using the Aquarelles for your first few layers (which provide a very lovely soft matte finish), then laying down the final layers of color with the Luminance, which is a particularly beautiful combination. The box is so beautifully designed to protect each pencil, it is such a pleasure to hold them in your hands and color with them. Each color has its own recipe for the binder to insure that every pencil has the same hardness, the company never uses cheap fillers, the pigments are sourced exclusively from Germany and Switzerland, and they are particular known for their range of neutral colors (perfect for portraits, landscapes etc.)

> 3 dayI started creating a swatch chart with my new set of 120 Polychromos pencils and wrote an email to Faber Castell informing them that I had received two Pine Green pencils and no Chrome Oxide Green. I was provided the opportunity to send the pencils to Faber-Castell for replacement and told that Faber-Castell USA does not sell or distribute through Amazon, nor are we affiliated with them. The pencil set was sourced through Topaz Worldwide, which returns a Page Not Found error when I click the link in the Orders record.

> 3 dayI’ve tried several brands of colored pencils, for relaxing coloring in adult coloring books, nothing major or pro. It is true that you get what you pay for. Prior to these, the best I used are the Prismacolor premieres, 2 diff kinds of Staedleter, a lower tier Faber Castell(which are great & have awesome color-laydown), every level of crayola, & various quality but generic types. I’d been dying to try these, the Fab.Cas. Polychromos. Just to start w/, I bought the 12 pack that comes in a neat thin metal case. The colors are pretty much vibrant, they lay down well, though a bit too heavy imo,as I find I can’t color a light shade w/ them, it’s either to rich or nothing. Also, they’re too thick for my taste, the entire penicil I mean, as well as the leads, just somewhat too thick. Truth be told, some common normal colors, such as a few blues, pink, orange, are not my favorite, whereas in other brands typical colors to me look nicer. Not too sure now if I’ll go for any of the bigger sets, the 24/36/60 etc. I do still honestly think that Faber-Castell is a top notch top of the line brand. High Quality. Unless I received a set that may have been exposed and left to high heat, or what have you, causing my pencils to not function the way they’re meant to, I believe they may be either a little overrated or, very overpriced.

Greater than one weekThese color pencils are great. The pigments are nice & vibrant. Theyre easy to sharpen without lots of splintering or breaking. Coloring with them whether using soft or hard pressure theres not a lot of crumbing. I received them as described, great condition. I received them quickly which was great & Theyre a great value. Recommend for sure, thank you!!

> 3 dayI cant decide which I like better, the Prismacolor premiers or the Faber Castell Polychromos, as they are both amazing. The Faber Castell polychromos are oil based and therefore the core is strong and less prone to breaking. You can get a very fine point on them, and rarely have breakage when sharpening. For all over color they cant be beat. They give great coverage with little white showing through with very little pressure. The pigmentation is amazing, and while you cant pull the colors into one another like you can with wax based pencils, these can layer for days with no problem. You also cant get wax bloom with them. The 120 count pencil set has more than enough shades and colors, allowing you to create any color you can imagine. The quality controlers are on point as Ive never seen a single pencil off centered, broken, warped or chipped. They are truly beautiful just to look at. I use blending stumps, prismas colorless blender, and solvents, all of which work great with the Polychromos for blending. You really cant go wrong with these and you will fall in love the moment you try them!

Greater than one weekThese are a very nice set of pencils! Artist quality. I do think however that these as well as any other set of artists pencils are way over priced. I know a lot goes into the process of making them but please, theyre pencils. High quality, yes.... Better than most, yes.... On par with Prismacolor, yes.... But they, along with every other expensive brand, including the $400 -$1,000 brands could definitely have a lower price point. Ive seen super nice drawings done with crayola pencils. Hyper realistic ones. More effort goes into them than if you use these. I got these as a gift. Dont get me wrong they are very nice pencils. I love them and am very glad I got them.

Greater than one weekLove, love , love these pencils I was hesitant to buy at first due to the cost but after finding a great deal on them and doing some research ( to make sure they were real) I decided to buy them . These pencils are everything I was looking for and more definitely worth the price.
