I bought the 12 pack to try them out and enjoyed them so much I ended up wanting to get the 120 set so I saved up my money and got them! I love them so much! Some people say that blending is difficult with these but they worked pretty well as long as you work with layering your colors. Also if you are having some trouble with that I like to add some white on top to make them blend better and look nice and smooth. Practice always makes perfect! When I was useing Prisma Colored pencils they always smeared around and were kinda flaky when I used them witch I didn’t like but these colored pencils don’t do that at all! I haven’t had any of them break ether. Also they kinda smell like a freshly painted room and I really like it for some reason lol.

Let me start off by saying I have carpal tunnel, so it physically hurts for me to have to strain my hand continuously when doing detailed works. Prismacolor had me wearing a brace after every use to get half the results that I get with these pencils. I can work for hours, barely even pressing down, and everything just blends beautifully. Its definitely different, being use to having to press down hard with prismacolor had me confused about how I felt about polychromos, but when I realised I barely had to press down to create a beautiful saturated line, I was sold. I worked on a piece for 20 hours and the tips never broke, barely had to sharpen them, and the amount of detail I was able to accomplish since the tip stayed sharp was amazing.

I purchased this set about a month ago and have been really pleased. I use them for adult coloring books. I do a lot of coloring and the rich colors and smooth lay down are amazing. These are outstanding artist-quality pencils. But Im not an artist, so dont trust me - instead, watch this great YouTube video from Lachri reviewing Polychromos pencils versus Prismacolors: [...]. Its 12 minutes long, but really worthwhile to watch - not only is Lisa reviewing the pencils, but you also get to speed-watch her creating side-by-side versions of artwork using each brand. I figure you might as well spend some time learning about these before laying down your money. After all, youre probably planning on spending a lot of quality time with these. Lisa convinced me before I bought the pencils that I would be really happy with them. And I am! Pros: Amazingly rich colors Leads dont break Sharpen to fine point Blend and layer beautifully Tin is sturdy and snaps closed securely Good color selection I have been able to blend colors really easily, so this set has waaay more colors than 36. I like the traditional artists color names, printed on the pencils. Total of 120 Polychromos colors are available. Cons: I could say expense, but you get what you pay for! Actually surprised by reasonable price now that I know their quality. Obviously a set of 36 pencils is a little less convenient for carrying around! Case protects them, though. Colors will smudge slightly if your hand rubs over artwork very much. In spite of good color selection, 36 pencil set does not have something like sky blue. Some colors in the tin are almost exactly the same, or extremely close, to my eye. There are no lighter flesh colors, just browns and soft, dull reds. Solutions: To prevent smudging, put a piece of tracing or copy paper under your hand as needed. But usually smudging is not a problem. A plastic artists eraser, such as Staedtler Mars, usually removes smudging or stray marks. I ordered a couple of flesh tones from Dick Blick. (DBs prices arent bad, just no free Prime shipping!) I put away a couple of almost redundant colors and store my new flesh tones in the tin. Again, Im really enjoying these and hope you will too. Cheers.

I bought these as a birthday gift to myself, of sorts. Im not a professional artist but I am a graphic design student who draws on a pretty much daily basis. I was upgrading from a 36ct set of Prismacolors. I am amazed. They blend absolutely beautifully, the colors are vivid, and the pencils themselves are sturdy - which, as a former Prismacolor user, is a blessing. They feel so luxurious. I can layer these a lot more than my Prismacolors as well, so I can attain a dynamic, brilliant color with ease. My only dislike is the white pencil. Its pretty transparent, so I usually use my Prismacolor white instead. speaking of which, they layer well with Prismacolors too. these are my new favorites. Ive been making excuses to draw with them. 10/10 would buy again.

These pencils are perfect for detail. For the longest time I used prismacolor for all pencil drawings. Prismacolor has very rich colors but the lead is thicker and softer, breaks more, and the wax will eventually rise to the surface of your drawings, resulting in a duller appearance. While I have less colors to work with in this set, they are superior quality. The lead is thinner but harder, so they dont break as often and are perfect for detail work, i.e. fur/hair etc. The colors are vibrant and permanent but lack any sort of shine. You have to get a oil-based colorless blender for these, the waxy one for prismacolors will NOT work. If you are learning to blend colored pencils still, are practicing, dont care if the wax permeates through eventually, or need large surface areas covered, I would recommend prismacolor. If you are are comfortable blending to get the shades you need, are looking for more advanced pencils, particularly for detail work, and this is professional work that cannot have excess wax on it, I would recommend the Faber-Castell.

I have numerous brands of colored pencils ranging from low to high both in quality and price; however, Faber-Castell pencils are by far my most favored. I prefer oil based pencils because the bloom from wax based pencils can cause issues. FC pencils cover very well with few layers. Layering and blending is quite easy as well. The color quality of FC pencils can not be beat. I did create my own color chart that fits in the lid of the tin for ease of access and to see the true color of each pencil.

My daughter is in advanced art and the teacher recommended prismacolor art pencils. The color selection is great but the leads are not bonded to the wood casing causing them to break and fall out. Also they tend to have a lot of wax blooming when trying to blend colors as well as some fading with time. We ended up buying some Faber-Castell Polychromos after trying prismacolor and my daughter loves the way they blend and their quality is outstanding as well as being colorfast so little to no fading after years of exposure. You can find art pencils in a lower price range but I feel it is worth paying a little extra for a better quality product. Even the art teacher has commented on how vivid the colors are and how much nicer my daughters drawings have gotten compared to her previous works. My daughter hasnt told her that she is using the Faber-Castell Polychromos now instead of what was recommended. Proof that the quality of the Faber-Castell Polychromos are better.

I had great hopes for this pencil set and they were met. I am completely pleased with the broad color range they offer and the quality of pigmentation is superb. When I received the set I notice how vibrant and intense the colors really are, you can keep a fine point and make therefore fine detail with them. Overall this pencil set is worth its Price. I would only suggest the Company to make more neutral colors. The only downside to this colors is that if you like painting in paper other than White they may not show as much, particularly on black paper. the White color is very very opaque and hardly noticeable even on White paper. As well the metallic color pencils, which are gold, silver and copper are very dry and scratchy when you use them and Im not able to notice them much on normal paper.
