> 24 hourI own an earlier version of this device, and it has been very useful when I have been beyond cell signal. However, you should know that you will be dealing with a very consumer-unfriendly company. I have had many complaints about Garmin over the years, but in this case, when you have a yearly subscription, they send out the reminder of your subscription (calling it an invoice) the day after they renew it, making sure that they have 1 years more money if you had wanted to cancel. I certainly wouldnt cost them anything to send out a reminder a week in advance, as many companies do, allowing you to cancel before the charge to your credit card.

> 24 hourI am an avid hiker but also disabled. Since I’m often out of cell tower reach purchasing this has become my lifeline. It frees me from only hiking in more populated areas and has dramatically improved my lifestyle and adventures. It is very lightweight, well designed and is perfect just about anywhere.

> 24 hourI use this for just in case, but I am able to continue to send and receive messages anywhere I go. so I assume if I needed SOS they would get my message and be able to communicate with me to get me help.

> 24 hourIf you plan to have your smart phone with you (and backup charging capabilities) the Garmin Inreach is ideal. You can download maps ahead of trip on your phone, and the Garmin will show you exactly where you are and track your activity. We were able to track in real time on our computer where our son was hiking in Arches National Park. Every 10 minutes, there was a spot on the map along the way. It saved them twice to get them back on the trail during a 10 mile hike.

> 24 hourI had been using a spot device and after getting a 225 dollar renewal charge from spot I had enough. I used this on a 5 day trip in the sierra Nevada mountains. It was small enough to wear on my pack strap which made it easy to check out miles for the day. Battery life wasnt bad in tracking mode I recharged it off a solar charger but I think it could have gone two days in tracking mode. miles traveled was dead on with the map trail mileage. Pairing the unit with a iphone and sending a message was pretty easy.
