Greater than one weekStrapped this on my (young-adult) kid who went hiking in Bolivia !! We were able to stay in touch using the app installed on a phone (iPhone, in this case). We could follow the progress of the hike through a website that was continually updated by the device. The battery lasted pretty well but we sent usb chargers, too. It is amazing that as long as this device can see the sky it can provide a way to be in touch anywhere in the world via text and the Garmin website.

> 3 dayFirst let me introduce myself. Im a nature photographer. I often go where no cell service has gone before. As such I have two important needs. I must know where I am and how to get where I wish to be. My other need is to communicate with the outside world for safety and more routine issues. The inReach, since its inception at DeLorme has filled BOTH needs by providing a reliable two-way satellite texting device. And with a Bluetooth paired to my smartphone and the excellent EarthMate app I also have high quality 24k scale map navigation. Ive had each model and they all worked perfectly... period. Of course, Im no fool so theres a magnetic compass and map tucked in a pocket of my backpack in case of electronic failure.

> 3 dayThis thing is great. Ive managed to send texts from inside my tent. Sometimes it does take a while though. Also the battery goes fast if you leave it on. Its more of a turn it on when you need it type of device. I use a Garmin instinct for gps. The inreach is more of a safety and communication device. Its also nice for checking the weather.

> 3 dayThis was easy to set up and connect to my phone. The account setup was easy. Still figuring through the features, but it will be very useful in the travels I do. I bought one for me and one for my husband.

> 3 daybatteries only last a couple days. Bring a charger! Texting feature is extremely slow and will not work at all if in the trees.

> 3 dayI do bikebacking and canoe trips that are often off the grid using normal cell phone coverage. After breaking down on my bike far from any town, farm, or well traveled road I researched and purchased a mini. Ive only had the unit a week so Its still early but so far so good. If you are looking for something to communicate with civilization and possibly have your loved ones track you this does the job. If you are looking for bells and whistles beyond that this isnt the unit for you. I like the size and the rugged construction. The battery life has also been good. I was out on a 2 day trip with it and used less than 40%. Looks to be close to the advertised 50 hours.
