> 3 dayThis thing is amazing! I bought an original InReach 4 years ago. This has a screen, and is a fraction of the size. It receives messages when people when people send them. In the past, you had to send a message to get the device to check for messages. This receives a message when its sent, and has a very easy to access menu to check for messages. Sending a message without a phone isnt really that bad! Yeah, its not a touch screen smartphone, but its like T9 back in the day. Pretty simple. Finally, weather reports show up on the devices screen and the phone, and you can write custom messages from a linked smart phone. This thing is great!

> 3 dayIf you plan on mostly using your phone while on a hike or long trip away from cell service, this device provides simple access to satellite communication for standard phone users.

> 3 dayWorks well. The antenna needs to be pointing upward for better reception. Service plans are ok but for tracking they’re a bit expensive.

> 3 dayIm a long time and formerly happy InReach user. Due to changing needs I bought 2 more devices for family members. I logged on and activated the devices and then found out that Garmin has removed the feature to add additional users. This is their hamfisted and lazy approach to recent privacy laws. (There was a confusing warning that stated you could only connect one user per device but nothing that said you could no longer create users.) Your choice is to setup a different *account* for each person, maintain payment information, contacts, and preset messages multiplied by the number of devices/people you have or upgrade to Pro and pay much more. I broke down and decided to create a Pro account just to save the hassle. I tried to cancel service on the devices but the website said activation and cancellation on the same day is prohibited. So tomorrow, I cancelled service on the two new devices and got charged $143.00 for cancellation on *each* device. I was unaware Id signed a service contract with early termination and of course will dispute this. Anyway, I then tried to create the Pro account. The website allows you to get a couple steps into the process and then says Pro customers must call a specified phone number in order to activate. Despite increasing frustration I called the number and got a generic message that said To access your mailbox press the pound key.... So to sum up, if you are an enthusiastic user of InReach and wish to purchase additional services you are penalized with having to do everything multiple times and hope you keep all your devices up-to-date and consistent for your family and hope your credit card isnt compromised since youll need to update for each member. If you decide to pay business rates to avoid the hassle you simply cant set up devices at all. I hope the executive at Garmin who over saw this complete mismanagement of GDPR changes loses their job.

> 3 daySpotty connection in the mountains where I hike. Garmin charged me another year of service after I deleted my Garmin account, and won’t let me activate unless I pay for a year of service when I didn’t even have a Garmin account. I can’t even give this locked brick away. Never again will I buy another Garmin product. Poor customer service.

> 3 dayWonderful gps for remote tracking plus message capabilities. Not super high tech, kinda Stone Age-ish but worth the money for connectivity where nothing else works.

> 3 dayStupid! You have to pay for a service. An SOS call should be free.
