Device works fine, the registration process is fairly simple. The best thing about the device is the fact that it can be connected by Bluetooth to a smartphone, which makes it much easier to send text messages.

I have both the explorer SE+ and this device. For my use case (primarily disaster comms via connected iPhone) I’d buy this in preference to the more expensive unit with its color display.

Since my wife wont reliably find her way back to the trailhead and phones rarely work where we hike, I bought the Inreach SE several years ago. I used it when I broke a leg hiking in the backcountry. It was a great help getting out (though the wife did find the trailhead on that occasion and got to the sheriff 15 minutes before the satellite folks made it from regional to national to state to county sheriffs department). Since the very-reliable SE feels like a brick, I sprang for the $$ for the Mini. It works just as well!

Very compact and user friendly.

I used this Garmin inReach Mini for hiking Larapinta NT Australia recently and it was brilliant, weather was handy to have on hand and we used the text via Earthmate App to communicate for other hikers who couldnt communicate with their support crew. I knew if I fell and hurt myself badly that help was always going reached via satelite signal and my family could follow along on MapShare to see where I had got to and message me if necessary. Best invention ever in a 100gm package!

I often hunt and ride (offroad motorcycle and quad) alone in Northern Quebec areas where there are no cell phone coverage. I do same day round trips most of the times. So the relatively short battery life is not a problem for me. It seams to take about 40% of the battery per day when actively tracking. I use InrReach to notify my contacts when I start my activities, then again when I finish them.

Works well

Within three days of buying it, I actually had to use the SOS function. It put me in touch with the local sheriff’s office, and some volunteers dragged my foolish carcass out of the woods after midnight on an ATV. I won’t leave home without it.
