Works great.... actual usable space is about 1.82 TB for those wondering. The Hitachi drives seem to get good ratings for quality and durability, so thats why I have ordered several of them. Hope they last as the ratings suggest!

Its pretty good, but I got it in 2017. Id say go for an ssd or a higher capacity HD in 2021. Its not worth the slow loading times in games and sometimes in file explorer. Though if you just want storage, id get it. Again, nothing wrong with it, just outdated now.

I bought this because I wanted a 2T drive and had had a Hitachi for going on 9 years. ThIs is an Enterprise drive and the price was good so I got it. Ive only used it in an ANKER dock and it is noisy and runs really hot. The noise might be damped in a case but the temperature was in the 105 F range. Ill have a further update.

Great price, works great

BackBlaze recently compared their server records on Hitachi, WD and Seagate. Hitachi beat out WD as the most reliable drive by a small but significant margin. Hitachi is also fast, though I dont have figures. Their quality control is still considered good in an industry prone to outsourcing its manufacturing. Seagate trailed a distant third in reliability. I researched before buying. I bought and installed four of these 2TB units in a single RAID 10 configuration, last month, through Amazon. The drives run 24/7 and are constantly accessed by me and a file synch program. For my money theyre as silent as any others I have used in Mac or PC installations, barely audible 2 away on my work desk. This RAID is really fast. I read the comments about head repositioning noise. It is a slightly noticeable curiosity I wouldt have identified without these reviews. I hear it only once in a while, but I dont find it distracting or objectionable. However this supplier is not Prime, and the time lag between order and delivery dates is of some concern. I ordered two more on Saturday and they still show as Preparing for Shipment Monday night. I may order bare drives from NewEgg when I need them to complete a project.

The only caution here is that this drive only supports 512KiByte. Its clear on the datasheet (if you can find the one from Hitachi), but not all that clear in the description. Works okay in a RAID-Z configuration with some 4M block size drives mixed in, but Im sure Im losing some performance with that variation between devices.

I needed this really bad. Im glad I could get one this quickly and it functioning a lot better than my other one.
