I am a retired engineer. I build computers as a hobby. This is not my first purchased of HGST hard drive. I’ve purchased 2T and 4T HDST with no issues. I first purchased a recertified HGST which I thought would be okay for the use in a home entertainment center to store TV series. I installed the drive and it immediately started making popping and cracking sounds during operation which is a sign of a failing hard drive. I returned it. This time I order a new Ultrastar hard drive which did the same thing. I’ve been using a 2008 HGST that I pulled from an old computer to store TV series. It works well, however it was only 5oo gigs. So, now I am using it again. I guess there is little or no quality control since it was now part of Western Digital.

Bought as a replacement for a backup drive that bricked. This is a great drive at a great price. Highly recommended.

Runs as advertised. Plugged it in as a replacemment on my Raid 10 IDE cluster. No issues at all. Hitachi drives seem to be outlasting my Western Digital Drives. They just work.

Very loud and slow. Sounds like popcorn cooking under full load.

hitachi drives are simply the best, see my other reviews of them. i have over 70 x hitachi drives running 24/7 and little on no failures!

This drive was shipped promptly by USPS Priority Mail in two days, beating the deadline by several days and outstripping Amazons delivery of products ordered at the same time by three days. It was simply packed in bubble wrap and a USPS small box but it was in good condition and works fine. It was in a standard sealed anti-static OEM wrapper and appears to be new, not refurbished. I installed it in a PC I use for video editing which is not connected to the Internet and runs XP SP2. The interface is original SATA 1.5 GBs. In spite of the ancient technology it installed easily and shows disc-to-disc transfer rates of about 60 MB/s. Slow, but no doubt limited by the transfer rate of the older drive. I am so impressed I am about to order another.
