I wish I could say I like this printer, but actually I dread having to print anything because its always such a hassle. I hate this printer and cant wait to get a different one. Pros: --cant think of any Cons: --tries to print a test page every time I turn it on, burning ink or forcing manual intervention --I need to print something about once a month, yet I still have to buy ink cartriges every 6 months. Basically costs me 2 dollars in ink for every page I want to print. --print quality is not very good; not impressed; certainly wouldnt try to print photos --software interface for scanning is garbage. make a simple process confusing. If you see one of these printers in the wild, the correct response is to shoot it.

I live in Costa Rica. I went to a computer store I know and bought a HP deskjet 1515 printer a few days ago. I followed the directions very carefully for setting it up. Unfortunately, the darned thing didnt work. I got on the HP web site and a technician tried to fix it via remote control and we did all sorts of things but he couldnt get it to work either. I know it has 1 90 day warranty. But hopefully the store will replace it. Im very disappointed. Update: the printer did not work with my Vista operating system. I installed Microsoft 7 and the printer now works.

I went shopping for a reasonably priced printer to get some basic prints out, and I ended up picking up the HP-PSC 1510. Ive owned this piece of garbage for a year now, and the only way to keep myself from wasting time trying to get it to work was to simply throw it in the trash. Today I needed to print a single page, with a simple color picture on it and some basic text. As usual the text smeared (even after following ALL of the Help and Suggestion tips from the manual AND the HP website) which is acceptable, but the picture had lines through it and the colors were insane. I followed the instructions on the HP website to try and calibrate the colors - to no avail. I then tried to print out a test page, and the feed mechanism wasnt working, again. I spent an hour reading from the HP website about how to diagnose and perhaps fix the paper feed mechanism since that has NEVER really worked right. I figured enough is enough, and I simply picked up the HP-PSC 1510 and dropped it into the trash can - the single satisfying experience Ive had to date with this printer. - Feed mechanism errors: you have to TRICK the printer into actually accepting paper, and it usually DRAGS paper in at a weird angle - producing very inconsistent prints. If you are trying to print a report, every page will appear to have different margins. - Smearing of ink on final prints: no matter what quality setting I use or what program I use to print (including the most up-to-date HP printing software), text smears - sometimes so bad that it hurts your eyes to read more than a page of anything printed by the HP-PSC 1510. - Build quality is worse than that of dollar store plastic toy: while tinkering with the HP-PSC 1510 (trying to get the feed mechanism to work) I had a good look at the printer, and over all Id be generous to call the build quality shabby. - Photos were decent: this is the only area where the printer wasnt HORRIBLE. The feed mechanism didnt seem to have a problem accepting glossy photo paper, and the prints werent bad, but werent good. Ink blotted and discoloration was present after an hour, but that was perhaps one out of five photographs printed by the HP-PSC 1510 using HP software. I own an HP laptop and havent had any issues with it so far, in fact its one of the best laptops Ive worked with so far (dollar for dollar) - which makes me wonder if they put together their laptops and printers in different manufacturing plants, or even different countries. I cant be bothered to waste my time finding out, but Im amazed at the vast difference in build quality between the two. Suffice to say Ill NEVER be buying an HP printer again, and I advise anyone who is looking for a new printer to buy anything except HP.

I have two of these bought at the same time.... BOTH of these pieces of s@#$%t dont feed right and Ive taken them back to Best Buy to fix them/replace them only to get them back doing the same thing... and its too late for a refund. I feel like HP and Best Buy have my b@#$s in a vise! Dont buy it.

I bought this printer less than 2 years ago, the ink is affordable, the copies and pics come out nice, the major downfall, is the printer just broke and its only 1 1/2 years old....something happened internally with the print cartridge cradle (no error on my part) and now its broken. I wish i read these reviews b4 buying this.

I bought one of these because it was on sale at Sams Club for a price that was cheaper than a stand alone scanner. I like the output quality, Scan quality, Good Speed, small footprint, utilizes 1 power cord and 1 USB port, and Mac OS X Compatible. Now the downside. Drinks ink at an alarming pace! The cartridges are cheap, but will add up quickly. I have a Cannon i900D that can go for several months without feeding. I have had a little trouble with the paper feed. It has pulled the ENTIRE stack through once (Approximately 50 pages)! I read in another review that this had happened to someone else. Until today I thought that it was just a fluke, but now Im not sure..... The high ink consumption / small tanks is why I gave this 3 stars. For minimal printing it will do fine. Just beware of a possible problem in the design of the feed roller or paper source tray. ******UPDATE 6-27-06****** This thing blows through ink so fast that I now only use it as a scanner. I have replaced the Color and Black ink tanks 3 times each since November. Do not buy this if you are looking at it as a primary printer! High Ink consumption and cost is not acceptable. HP has decided to make money from ink and not quality products.

I had a separate printer and scanner with more money invested. I really appreciate the quickness and the quality that I am receiving on the text and photo prints. Also the copy operaton is very fast, especially since you do not have to go through the computer. The scan operation is also very good for what you have paid.

Works great and is new but it is 10 year old technology. Must have been on the shelf for a long time.

It does not empty cartridges, and it starts developing feed problems after a while. would not buy it again

hp incompetence: if you spend weeks dealing with alleged customer support (not one american!), filling out and submitting the same worksheet numerous times, THEN if you want replacement you have to give credit card so that they can charge you AGAIN for old printer if not returned within 15 days (and we all know how unreliable mdse shipments can be) or they can just lie and say it wasnt returned in time. They refuse to just provide mailing label for old printer to be returned before shipping new one. And so-called HP Service Partners are nothing more than SALES stores like WalMart that dont do repairs. I had same problem with paper feeder, buying different weights, etc. And dont even think of trying to online chat--nobody answers telephone, not that you could understand them anyhow. and their so-called tech support give you links that are incomplete, ie no address @???, so you know whether its hp.com or what
