Kwikset 991 Tustin Entry Lever and Single Cylinder Deadbolt Combo Pack featuring SmartKey in Satin Nickel, Model Number: 99910-040

I bought one for my main entry door, install went quick and smoothly, my holes for the handle and deadbolt slots were already available so I had it installed in roughly 30 mins. The handle of these units is reversible, I ordered the same identical unit for both front and back doors and had to flip the handle for the rear entry door. My sets came with the same part # so the key sets were identical, your results may vary I ordered mine a day apart from one another. My only complain is the top dead bolt lever, when locking and unlocking, doesnt seem to have a very firm movement/mechanism internally. When you lock it in place it the lever itself seems loose and has a bit of play; both units I ordered were like this. It doesnt cause any issues with the units ability to lock the door but definitely a noticeable difference from the older hardware it replaced. Cant speak on long term usage at this point and I have not used the smartkey feature, if I come across any problems Ill try to provide an update.

Bought 3 of these to replace existing locksets. The Smartkey feature allowed to reset all 3 deadbolts to use the same key. These feel solid and sturdy and install was a breeze.

We bought these to install on the door between our house an garage. We wanted a wave handle so it would be easy to open with a laundry basket or box in your hands, so this was exactly what we were looking for. In SmartKey technology is fabulous--we can key both of these to be identical to other locks so we only have to have one key. Far cheaper than calling a locksmith. The install was quite easy--probably half an hour, which includes the time it took us to quibble about the best way to chisel out the necessary holes on the door and door frame (both were new, so this was the first time a lock set had been installed). I imagine if you were replacing an existing lock, it would be about 10 minutes. They coordinate nicely with all the Venetian bronze and oil rubbed bronze fixtures you can find on the market. Great buy!

I like these locks because 1) they are sturdy and 2) they are simple to rekey for contractors, in-laws, renters, etc. They are also simple to install except for the deadbolt plate, which Ive only successfully retrofitted into a small percentage of my replacements (that plate is bigger than most and so the notch and screwholes rarely line up without a new screw half in an old hole - I end up just using the existing deadbolt plate, which is slightly less secure but not worthy of a lost star). It does lose a star for me by providing identical keys for multiple locksets I purchased (I wouldnt have realized this had I not bought several at one time). I wouldnt use the key that comes with the lock for this reason, except maybe to rekey a lock temporarily for a contractor, guest, etc. The only other downside to this lock is if you mess up the re-keying. You have to either have a reset tool or take it to Lowes or similar store (and for me that has to be when the one old guy who knows how to use the re-keying tool is there so its a big hassle).

Took less than 20 minutes to install two sets. The best part is being able to reuse the old keys from the previous lock that works for the rest of the house.

We bought a new house and wanted to change all the locks—we have FIVE exterior doors (all with deadbolts) and wanted the convenience of using ONE single key for all of them without calling a locksmith. We also wanted to change out old brass locks/knobs/levers with a more modern look. This was the PERFECT solution. First, I purchased an inexpensive but good quality set of 4 locking knobs with 4 deadbolts on Amazon—all keyed the same with a key compatible with Kwikset. I used those on the basement, balcony, and garage doors (with one extra left over). Then, I purchased a Smartkey handle-set with matching deadbolt for the front door and keyed that to match the 4 set combo. Then, I purchased this Smartkey set for the patio french door and also keyed that to match the 4 set combo and the front door. YAY! All doors in the entire house use ONE single key. The price for this deadbolt entry lever set on Amazon was an unbelievable $17 LESS EXPENSIVE than in our local big-box DIY store. It was very easy to install this, and very easy to key it. I simply followed the instructions in the package. It also works exactly the same as the Smartkey handle-set on our front door. Remember to keep the Smartkey pin in case you need to ever re-key the lock again. I think that that feature is VERY handy in case you ever feel a need to change your locks. Easy to install and everything is tight. Has been 2 months and no issues. I havent tried to rekey it.
