> 3 dayIve used a variety of Kwikset door handles. This one was a good deal compared to local big box stores. One of the primary reason for choosing this door handle set is that it is a common design, readily available, decent quality and rekeying ability.

03-06-2025Great lock system. My husband and I are remodeling our home and the search for locking systems seemed endless - who knew it would be some difficult to agree on a lock!?!? Any way....we went back and forth between several different brands (Schlage, Kwikset, Yale, Brinks, etc...) and ultimately decided on the Kwikset. Our decision was based on the style, durability (we really put these things to the test at the store), ease of use (was the handle comfortable, did the keys work easily, did duplicates work easily, etc), availability (at stores/online and the parts for changing over interior and exterior doors), and finish type. There are a lot of comparable lock sets out there, but this felt and acted much more heavy duty than the others we liked in this style. It was between this set and a similar Schlage set. This set won for 2 reasons - (1) we liked the handles better, on the doors and the front door set and (2) the SmartKey system. We have 4 exterior doors to our home, so we thought the SmartKey would be ideal. System works great, easy to use handle, and the door closes snug every time. Tips about this set - our first install was on a basement door. We replaced an original wooden door with a new fiberglass door. Love the entire set up and the new lock set looked great, but the handle was absolutely freezing to the touch. We ended up taking the lock set off and cutting a piece of foam insulation to fit behind. Problem solved! It didnt impact the usage of the lock or handle and cut down on the cold handle/cold air leaking through.

> 3 dayI am replacing the hardware on all my exterior doors and this Kwikset combo pack fit in with the other hardware throughout my house. I like the lever handles because they are easier to open when the arthritis in my hands flare up. The deadbolt combo set features a keyed lock and a deadbolt and seems very secure but a feature that I like very much about this set is the Smartkey feature which easily allows all my new exterior door locks to be keyed on the same key; I dont have to have 3 different keys for each of my exterior doors. I like these locks very much

> 3 dayThe door handles look great and are very easy to install - as long as you follow the directions. Once I actually fully read them - and followed the directions - everything fell into place.

> 3 dayI love this combo pack! The installation wasnt as easy as I would have hoped though. I have installed door knobs and dead bolts several times over the years and this duo was the most challenging. Changing the key setting didnt go well on the second set and it got to the point that I had to uninstall the set and take it to Lowes to have them reset it and rekey the set to my old key so that one key now opens all the doors to our house. Once you have a keyed set, this is an awesome pair! It is so nice to be able to lock and unlock the deadbolt without using a key on the inside lock and the handle on the doorknob is much easier to use than a typical knob when you are trying to open the door with full hands.

> 3 dayI already had another of these combo deadbolt/locking lever on my home, so when I needed to replace the ones on my garage, I went with the same model for a unified look. My previous install didnt need the lever or lock cylinder switched around so I hadnt needed to do that before. On this install though, I had to swap the levers to get the correct one on the outside. Its super simple to do with the included Allen wrench, remove both handles, and just use on the other side. Easy. But then it was bothering me that the cylinder for the key was upside down. I know this is a matter of preference for some, but considering that the deadbolt cylinder is what I consider correct, with the teeth of the key pointing up when you insert it, and now the lever cylinder was the other way, I had to figure out how to flip it. There are instructions online for flipping it for Kwikset knobs, but make sure to ignore those! The instructions for a lever handset is totally different and, as it turns out, super easy to do. You simply remove the outside handle (use the Allen wrench - reminder, you can only do this when the lever is unlocked; if its locked, it blocks the wrench from being inserted to reach the set screw). Theres a C clip holding the cylinder in place which you can easily pop off with a small screwdriver. Then you simply remove the cylinder, rotate 180 degrees, re-insert, and push the C clip back in place. Re-attach the lever and youre done. Thats so much easier than the process on a knob which involves taking the lever out entirely, removing the locking spindle, inserting a couple of screwdrivers to de-tension some spring clips, etc. With the lever you can do it all with the lever installed on the door. Which, of course, I didnt realize until after Id removed it and tried the knob method. :)
