Craftsman 1/2 hp garage door opener decided to quit opening the door recently and opened about an inch off the ground. Did some troubleshooting to find the worm gear and the toothed gear on the sprocket assembly were worn down and damaged. So I ordered the kit, thinking that with highly rated reviews, people were getting their parts and rebuilding their units with no issues. Come time when the parts came, I go about removing the electrical, and mechanical portions to replace the old damaged parts. Figured everything was gonna be a clean swap. Unfortunately, I found the top cap holes for the 5/16 screws were not tapped and threaded for the sprocket assembly. Ended up using the old, good sprocket assembly after refurbishing it a bit and transferring the new parts from the new one onto the old one. Finished the job then. Looked on the reviews after the fact and found out that I wasnt the only one that had this lack of threads problem. Otherwise kit was good, but I wanted to replace all the old parts with the new parts, and keep the old parts for spares. Rather unfortunate.

This is amazing. The item is perfect for my 20 year old Sears Craftsman garage door opener. This is the only piece that needed replacement. Im glad you can buy parts.

I ordered the kit, watched YouTube just to be clear on the repair. The repair was fairly quick and easy.

Definitely not the easiest parts to install (buts due to the garage door opener design). But as much of a pain as it was to get this all put in while standing on a ladder in my garage, it was a heck of a lot cheaper than paying a repair guy to come out and charge me a couple hundred bucks to do the same thing.

Bought this nearly a year ago after the local garage installer wanted over $60 for just the part. I am a good mechanic, but I watched youtube videos to preview the job. The part fit perfectly and it works great. This went on our primary garage door, and we enter and exit from it several times daily so it gets a lot of use. No problems at all. So pleased, I bought a second one for the other door. So glad I did not buy a whole new unit! This gear is the weak link. Think of it like wiper blades: it is intended to be replaced whenever it wears out. This is Rick (by the way) but I bet Marla could have changed this herself! This is a great value for the money.
