These were very difficult to connect to the app, sometimes they were detected, sometimes not. The app also didnt seem secure, it didnt mask my password and saved to my typing suggestions which was a big red flag. The app also left much to be desired.

I sent back my vocolincs because they wouldn’t stay connected despite all my efforts to troubleshoot. I got these, and did the firmware upgrade, and now I can use the Meross app and that seems to be working. HomeKit lost the connection after a few hours, but in Meross app all is fine. Plus I like that Meross has Apple Watch integration, whereas vocolinc didn’t. I’m just dipping my toe into the smart home world, don’t have a hub, and right now I just have one lamp on the network. Obviously there is a known issue with HomeKit dropping nearly all the Wi-Fi hub-free devices according to my research. But I’m ok with not having Siri and just pressing a button on my watch. Update: HomeKit is in and out of its own accord. I’ve done nothing to restore its link to the outlet, but it comes back on its own. Meross app is 100. Weird thing I discovered. My phone is back on 5Ghz radio after the initial 2.4Ghz setup, and yet HomeKit and Meross can turn the outlet on/off just fine now. When I first tried it, the app told me on I wasn’t connected. It is SO FREAKIN WEIRD that these things seem like they have a life of their own.

Fairly easy to set up, work great once they are.

These are the plugs I use in my “smart apartment”. They definitely do work once you get them set up properly. I had some issues setting up a few of them and it took me longer than I would have liked to spend doing so. Design wise I would prefer something less bulky, but for the price point I am happy with these. I will continue to repurchase these even though set up can be frustrating at times.

Easy plug works well with HomeKit just a little bit large for my taste

They work great until there’s a firmware update—which is every couple months. Once a firmware update is available they stop responding until updated, which usually requires a factory reset and re-adding them to HomeKit.

These plugs worked fine for a while, then they did a firmware update and they no longer work correctly, they will still turn on and off but the status on my Echo 10 always reads off no matter if the plug is on or off the status never changes, I am about ready to pack them all up and send them back to Amazon,.just as a side note I bought two more of there plugs with a different firmware and those two work fine, I am also running the latest firmware on the plugs that don’t work I just updated a couple days ago, they seem to work fine on Apple home kit but if you use Alexa your probably goi g to have a problem, at least I did, and yes I did reset the plugs it didn’t help

After not being able to install the plug on two separate occasions I gave it a 1 star rating; however after working with the vendor I was able to successfully install the plug. I now give it a 4 star rating.

Simple, works, supports a clicker/toggle button on the left-side to turn on/off manually. Light indicating on/off can be enabled/disabled (ie: usually green==on, off==off, but you can turn off the light all the indicator light all the time w/o putting a piece of tape over it). Updates are semi-frequent (Im describing the iOS / Apple / HomeKit experience), but theyre a little difficult to successfully manage. #1 updates have to be run by a secondary (junky) app, otherwise homekit complains of out of date firmware notification #2 the app for updating doesnt match the iOS / HomeKit naming (its always: Plug, Plug, Plug, Plug, etc...) so if you have a single plug which hasnt updated its kindof tricky to figure out which one it is for troubleshooting (pro-tip: turn off all the lights/outlets, then turn them on one, by one, switch over to the app, and rename the only outlet which is turned on). #3 the app is kindof gross. Its got coupons and probably spyware and what not. From a HomeKit perspective, the app is _necessary_ b/c of the updates it provides, but not well integrated. On the plus side, theyre really affordable, and Ive been super happy to have them. My suggestion is to pair this with 1-2 `Eve` brand outlets which support usage monitoring. 1) Pick the target device (lamp, xbox, fan, whatever). 2) Run it for a few weeks w/ the better Eve outlet with usage monitoring. See about how much it costs to run that device per day/week/month, etc. 3) Switch it over to a cheaper Meross plug, and then keep in mind about how much it costs 4) Repeat with your next device... 5) 100% buy these Meross plugs for anything which you can turn off easier and will pay for itself. For me, Im able to physically power-down my X-Box overnight w/ one of these plugs, which saves ~$2-5/month compared to accidentally leaving it on overnight. That means these plugs pay themselves off in 2-3 months... BUT you need a usage-monitoring plug in order to figure out where it makes the most sense to have app-control. Im unaware of the vampire-load of each of these plugs, but that info is probably in another review or answered question. Summary: - Theyre easy to set up - They work well with HomeKit - Theyre mostly OK to keep up to date - The app isnt great (but you dont need to use it often) - Theyre simple and Ive been very happy theyre cheap enough to put them in a bunch of places!
