This is a reasonably priced smart outlet I needed for our Apple HomeKit installation. The one huge drawback with it is that it can only be set up when paired on a 2.4 GHz wifi network. This required that the 5 GHz wifi band be turned off in our routers, which for us was very disruptive. It can be turned back on once the outlet is added to the HomeKit network, but upgrading the firmware update also seems to require the same change to the wifi network. I’ve yet to successfully update the firmware for this device, in spite of carefully following the provided instructions.

I put this smart switch on my Christmas tree and now I control it from the Home app on my iPhone. It works perfect. I recommend it.

I bought the Meross plugs on a whim. These plugs have been a game changer for me. The plugs are easy to setup and connect to Apple Home App. Automation has been a breeze to create with the Home App. I will buy more!

I setup home automation systems for residences part time. Most setups use Alexa/Google for automation but the latest was an exclusive Apple Homekit setup. If you’re also looking to hop onto the Homekit bandwagon and eyeballing these Meross outlets as the lowest-cost option, read on. First, setting up the Meross outlet and bulbs was more of a process than competitors, like Feit and Philips. For a few devices, the setup failed initially, requiring resets (which can burn 3-10 minutes each time). After a few failed attempts, we got all Meross devices operational. 12 hours later, the Home app indicated “no response” for one of the outlets. Resetting icloud, phone, hub, etc, did not fix the problem. The outlet was once working perfectly but is now non-functional. In the router settings, we could see that the device was still connected to the 2.4Ghz wi-fi network, so something was very fishy. We went ahead and did a clean reset of all devices at this point. Then, 12 hours later, a different Meross outlet stopped working! After a few days of whack-a-mole device resets, user testing, and researching forums, we figured out the issue. The customer was using a Netgear Orbi mesh router system which uses both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands and forces a single network name (SSID) for both bands. Because the Meross devices work exclusively on 2.4Ghz networks, it gets “confused” when it sees a 5Ghz network with the same name. We spent a week experimenting with different router settings to ensure the devices remained on the 2.4Ghz band with no luck. Also, don’t bother searching for solutions to root into the router and set a different SSID – you’ll corrupt your router settings, requiring a router reset as well! If you have a Netgear Orbi router, Meross Homekit-approved products simply won’t work. I ended up getting the customer a new, high powered router to replace the mesh system – one that allows the setup of separate SSIDs for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands. Viola – zero issues with all Meross devices for the past several days. While these Meross devices are technically working as designed now, I have to give 1 star because all competitor bulbs (Feit, Voc, Nanoleaf, Philips, Sylvania) do not have this problem and can seamlessly work on single-SSID mesh networks with no issues. These bulbs should work properly in all modern wi-fi setups and, if not, the manufacturer should go out if its way to indicate the incompatibilities.

Easy plug works well with HomeKit just a little bit large for my taste

I bought 4 of these and they were all difficult to set up. None set up on the first try. I had to ensure my phone was on the same wifi network (the devices require 2.4GHz), reset my phone at least once, and reset the devices at least once before the setup finally took. The only reason this is still 4 stars is that once the major headache of setting it up is done, they have been rock solid for me. They are also a decent value for the money. In case anyone is wondering, your phone can go back to using the 5GHz band once setup is complete.

I have a SAMSUNG SMART THINGS mesh network. These timers require first being set up in a meros account, and then linked to SMART THINGS. They worked fine until the first time we had a power hit/outage. Ive never been able to connect them again. I can hear them click, and then default to on. I cannot add them to the network, even though they had been named and paired. I reset the timers to factory default, and reinstalled with new names. Same issue. A wasted $50. Going forward I will only buy SAMSUNG SMART THING devices.

This is one of the more affordable smart plug for homekit on the market and hence was giving it a try. I was hoping it went well so that would replace my light switch with Meross as well. Sadly it didnt go as plan. I received 2 smart plugs towards end of Sept and I used it right away. The setup was easy and I was amazed that it was so quick to set it up and get it going. Fast-forward to 1st week of Nov (after around 6 weeks of usage), one of it stopped responding. I left it as-is for few days but the problem persisted. I reset the plug and tried to set it up again. It seems the Meross app has changed that I have to setup directly using Apple Home App (back in Sept during the initial setup, I can setup via Meross app first and the integrated with Home App, this seemed to have changed apparently). I have tried many times, resetting the plug, reboot my iPhone, etc. I couldnt get it added back with unreachable to device. Given that my 2nd plug is still working and theres no change in wifi configuration, I guess its the faulty item. I tried to get hold of Meross support via email. I sent emails 3 times (2 with safari browser and 1 with chrome browser. Theres 0 email notification that my case was received nor get any update on this subject. Will wait for another week and see if any response, but so far it doesnt seem promising. Update: Meross tech support got back to me with detail instruction. It finally works again (bump up to 4 stars). However, theres quite a few steps to undo on my network before its able to get it work again, like, removing my router from homekit, disable 5Ghz, disable client steering, ipv6, unplug apple-tv/homepod, etc, and redo all these.

It easy easy to install, and works great with Home. Have my lamp plugged in to it and can leave my light on in the living room until I get to my bedroom and then I can turn off the lamp
