Greater than one weekI setup home automation systems for residences part time. Most setups use Alexa/Google for automation but the latest was an exclusive Apple Homekit setup. If you’re also looking to hop onto the Homekit bandwagon and eyeballing these Meross outlets as the lowest-cost option, read on. First, setting up the Meross outlet and bulbs was more of a process than competitors, like Feit and Philips. For a few devices, the setup failed initially, requiring resets (which can burn 3-10 minutes each time). After a few failed attempts, we got all Meross devices operational. 12 hours later, the Home app indicated “no response” for one of the outlets. Resetting icloud, phone, hub, etc, did not fix the problem. The outlet was once working perfectly but is now non-functional. In the router settings, we could see that the device was still connected to the 2.4Ghz wi-fi network, so something was very fishy. We went ahead and did a clean reset of all devices at this point. Then, 12 hours later, a different Meross outlet stopped working! After a few days of whack-a-mole device resets, user testing, and researching forums, we figured out the issue. The customer was using a Netgear Orbi mesh router system which uses both 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands and forces a single network name (SSID) for both bands. Because the Meross devices work exclusively on 2.4Ghz networks, it gets “confused” when it sees a 5Ghz network with the same name. We spent a week experimenting with different router settings to ensure the devices remained on the 2.4Ghz band with no luck. Also, don’t bother searching for solutions to root into the router and set a different SSID – you’ll corrupt your router settings, requiring a router reset as well! If you have a Netgear Orbi router, Meross Homekit-approved products simply won’t work. I ended up getting the customer a new, high powered router to replace the mesh system – one that allows the setup of separate SSIDs for 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz bands. Viola – zero issues with all Meross devices for the past several days. While these Meross devices are technically working as designed now, I have to give 1 star because all competitor bulbs (Feit, Voc, Nanoleaf, Philips, Sylvania) do not have this problem and can seamlessly work on single-SSID mesh networks with no issues. These bulbs should work properly in all modern wi-fi setups and, if not, the manufacturer should go out if its way to indicate the incompatibilities.

> 3 dayI have 6 of the Meross smart plugs. They are easy to setup and use with my Samsung Smarthings app. When the power goes out, they always come back online without me being there to reset something.

> 3 dayThe switch turns on and off as expected with the proprietary Meross app and allows you to remotely control outlets away from home without using the full HomeKit integration. But the biggest issue is the automated schedule that you set through the Meross app doesn’t always turn on or off the plug at the programmed times if it loses the Wi-Fi connection. If it’s on an programmed schedule, one should think it would be set to and stored on the smart plug itself so it would no longer need a wifi connection. Not sure if this is the definite cause, but it routinely misses programmed on or off times and a bit of a deal breaker for some applications

> 3 dayThese work OK for a week or two at a time, but then they stop responding and you have to unplug them and plug them back in to get them back on the network, this is a problem because mine are behind cabinets and not easily accessible, the outdoor version of these is much better and much more reliable, if you have a lot of time to unplug and plug things back in then these are a good shot for you, but if you don’t like to do that sort of thing avoid these

> 3 dayThese are working fine after a little experimentation. You plug them in and scan the barcode with your iPhone, and thats it. Except HomeKit reports theres a firmware update you need the Meross app to apply. I suspect thats just to get you to install the app. It was working fine without the update. Once added to their app you can apply the firmware, but that made them much less reliable. I ended up unpairing them from both systems, uninstalling the app and starting over in HomeKit. After that theyve been fine. It was a bit of a hassle-- pick one platform and stick to it. UPDATE: After a few weeks I have to subtract a star. At least twice a week Ill get Automation failed ... Accessory is not reachable. If youre controlling your holiday decorations fine, but dont use these for anything important. UPDATE 2: After using these for about 5 months now, I have to knock them down to 2 stars. Theyre just too unreliable. If triggered manually they usually function immediately, but often dont report their status to HomeKit so your phone has the warning icon. When run via automation its a coin toss if it will work. I have a strong Wifi connection, a 2020 iPad acting as a HomeKit hub, the firmware was updated-- no excuses. These are just mediocre at best, and quite frustrating.

02-06-2025When it works, it works well with HomeKit. Otherwise sometimes apple can’t see it and when you go to re-add it, it won’t show up. This is apples fault. The smart plugs are awesome!

> 3 dayI really like these. I ordered a 2 pack and everything was easy to connect and set up. I already had the Meross app with an account set up. The only problem I had was a routine I set up in the app would not work until I enabled location. The routine works now.

> 3 dayI bought the Meross plugs on a whim. These plugs have been a game changer for me. The plugs are easy to setup and connect to Apple Home App. Automation has been a breeze to create with the Home App. I will buy more!

> 3 dayOn the surface, these smart plugs are pretty simple. Unfortunately, the two I received refused to link with Apple HomeKit, despite the various troubleshooting tips provided. They did connect properly to our Wi-Fi, and maybe they work better with another smarthome platform, but buyer beware. I ended up returning these and purchasing the Wemo plug instead. Twice the cost, but work like a charm without hassle.
