> 3 dayThis is a great little router and is awesome for the price, but seems to have an issue where some NICs that initially connect at 1000 Mbps will drop to 100 Mbps for no reason. Plugging the NIC in question into any other port on the switch will allow the NIC to connect at 1000 Mbps, but plugging it back into its old port will cause it to reconnect at 100 Mbps. This behavior continues until you power cycle the switch, at which point the NIC connects at 1000 Mbps again. Dont misunderstand, this isnt a big deal, just a bit of an annoyance - when you notice a port thats supposed to be green has gone yellow, it means its time to power cycle the switch. Ive had to do this, on average, about once every two months or so.

> 3 dayI had an old 10/100Mbs switch that was limiting my throughput to a few devices on the edge of my network. Well, I just replaced it with this 1Gbs switch. Literally just plugged in the ethernet cables from the old switch to the new switch, and instantly I was getting 250Mbs instead of capping out at 90Mbs. (For reference, Im ISP supposedly gives me 500 Mbs, and this is routing first through a 500Mbs cable modem, then a google home mesh point wired connection, then through the first 1Gbs switch, then through THIS new 1Gbs switch). Id say with all of those hops, Im pretty happy with my actual speeds and the improvement this switch provided! Absolutely 5 stars. The simplest install of any computer equipment ever. It just works!

08-06-2025Just installed and it seems to be working as it should. I would have preferred a metal case but I could not fine a switch designed for desktop use with the ports on the back side and the indicator lights on the front with a metal case. I would also prefer that it have mounting screw holes that go through the case for easier and more secure mounting rather than the usual hang it on precisely placed screws of a precise size and hope it does not get bumped off.

12-06-2025Just plug it in and go. This is an approved switch for the ReadyNAS Duo that I have, and it works flawlessly with it. Also works with a Macbook Pro running 10.6, an Airport Extreme router, a PS3, an Xbox 360, a DirecTV HD DVR and a Panasonic Plasma (for VieraCast). Apparently this has the same chipset as the GS108 so the speeds are the same. The only differences are the materials (this one is plastic, the GS108 is metal) and whether you want front ports (the GS108) or rear ports (this one). I went with the GS608 because it went into an entertainment system cabinet and I wanted rear ports and to see the status lights without pulling the cabinet away from the wall. Keep in mind there is NO CONFIGURATION on this model. If you need to set traffic priority (for example, voice and video receive a higher priority than web surfing) you should look at the GS108T. And this model cannot be stacked because of heat dissipation. If you need to place two or more together you have to use the supplied stands to place them in a vertical orientation next to each other.

> 3 dayI have always liked Netgear products and have never had any issue with them. I currently have 2 five port switches running in my office but needed one for our new finished basement so I could run all my devices over wired ethernet rather than through wireless. I have the switch sitting in a tv cabinet and it works great. It looks good, works well, doesnt get hot, and does what I need it to do. The price is good for an 8 port switch that runs at gigabit speed. I also like that non used ports do not consume power when not in use. Right now I am running an Apple TV, cable box, Xbox, and PS3 through the switch and it works as expected. I highly recommend Netgear products and especially their non-managed switches.

> 3 dayoh I love these switches. I have Cat 7 cabling running around my house and the Gigiabit Ethernet switch worked well. I have 2 of them in the house (upstairs and downstairs) and the switches have been working flawlessly.

> 3 dayNothing is necessary other than plugging a small power brick into the wall for the switch and connecting ethernet cables to the switch. The switch is supplied with ethernet from a port on an Apple AirPort Router, effectively adding 8 ports - 9 total, where the Apple alone has three. Very inexpensive and completely transparent for printers, VoIP adapter and a T-Mobile microcellular site! You cannot set anything on this switch - it is unmanaged but that is fine for a home and a small office.

> 3 dayRuns cool, no dropped connections. Im using this at a small workbench with multiple towers connected 24/7, and I frequently hook machines I am servicing to the open ports throughout the day.I have yet to have a machine not be detected, unlike my experience with an older 5 port version of this same switch.
