> 3 dayI had an old 10/100Mbs switch that was limiting my throughput to a few devices on the edge of my network. Well, I just replaced it with this 1Gbs switch. Literally just plugged in the ethernet cables from the old switch to the new switch, and instantly I was getting 250Mbs instead of capping out at 90Mbs. (For reference, Im ISP supposedly gives me 500 Mbs, and this is routing first through a 500Mbs cable modem, then a google home mesh point wired connection, then through the first 1Gbs switch, then through THIS new 1Gbs switch). Id say with all of those hops, Im pretty happy with my actual speeds and the improvement this switch provided! Absolutely 5 stars. The simplest install of any computer equipment ever. It just works!

Greater than one weekMy go to switch for my travel bags. Always work and not a bad price for a well built switch.

> 3 dayThis is a great little router and is awesome for the price, but seems to have an issue where some NICs that initially connect at 1000 Mbps will drop to 100 Mbps for no reason. Plugging the NIC in question into any other port on the switch will allow the NIC to connect at 1000 Mbps, but plugging it back into its old port will cause it to reconnect at 100 Mbps. This behavior continues until you power cycle the switch, at which point the NIC connects at 1000 Mbps again. Dont misunderstand, this isnt a big deal, just a bit of an annoyance - when you notice a port thats supposed to be green has gone yellow, it means its time to power cycle the switch. Ive had to do this, on average, about once every two months or so.

> 3 dayOurs works fine but some of the ports have gone dead. After about 2 years of use. Also I am starting to see connection issues on some devices and I am unsure if it is this switch or the device or the cable. So... I duno

> 3 dayI bought this in April of 2009, at the time I was happy with the performance. I havent been regularly monitoring its performance. Nov of 2011 I noticed that a wireless access point connected to this switch was having performance issue, but I chalked it to the wireless switch. This unit itself, after a power cycle, seemed OK. But now, Aug of 2012, I noticed that a PC connected to this unit was having network speed issues, it was only getting 1MB/s from my NAS. While another PC connected to a different switch on the same network was getting 40MB/s from the same NAS. This unit feels really hot to the hand. I wonder if this is the same over-heating issue that others have mentioned. I guess 3 years is not bad, but given that it started going bad probably last Nov, after 2.5 years, and all my other network equipment, including router, wireless bridge/access point, and a 5 port desktop switch, all 10/100/1000, are all working flawlessly, this seems a little disappointing.

> 3 dayNo frills, standard non managed switch with 8 gigabit ports. Lasted me 5 years then suddenly died. Considering how much work I put it through I felt that was satisfactory. Hard to diagnose as it still seemed to indicate it was ok. Performed well for the price for a very long time.

> 3 dayI have several switches like this throughout the house. They work really well and seem to be well made. I also have the 8 port metal switch which is sturdier but will get warmer than this. The switch comes with a power adapter and a couple of stands that clamp on and will allow you to install it vertically. The stand will do their job but dont expect much in terms of stability. The best time to get this switch is when Netgear has a rebate for it and they seem to have rebates all the time. At that time it can be found for as low as $20-30. Highly recommended product for the money.

> 3 dayLike so many other small home office users, I have recently upgraded my network to 1000mpbs to help increase productivity. Unfortunately, I originally purchased a GigE 8 port switch from another mfg. that used a fan on their switch, a VERY noisy fan. After a month of listening to what sounded like an airplane engine, I tossed that unit and purchased this 8port Netgear GigE unit. It is SILENT. Basically a plug and play item due to its unmanaged nature, I have had good data thru put and no problem. It comes with a small clip on stand for vertical storage if desired. The unit is finished in an attractive gray and chrome exterior. It is also small enough to live on a desktop without sucking up valuable real estate. So, if you are looking for a switch that will not be stored remotely in some closet, this is the one that will keep the peace in your office. A+ *****

> 3 dayI purchased two of these 8 port switches, and two of the 5 port switches. For some reason the two 8 ports switches have failed in two years, both with same issues, freezing and hanging. Which is temporarily fixed by cycling the power. The two 5 port switches are still working. I had all the ports in use on both of the 8 ports switches...so maybe that had something to do with it. Needless to say, I had to replace them with D-Link 8 port switches...hopefully they will last longer than these did. By-the-way, I was able to get over 70MB/s using JUMBO frames set to 9000 between my iMac and my QNAP, so for me the JUMBO frames worked fine.
