This are the second pair I use this LP on, I just bought them and as soon got home I put the LP on. I did not took photos of my previous boots but this is how they change of colors, it does not bother me as they’re for work. I work as a pesticide applicator and whenever I’m not using my rubber boots I use this ones, so far the LP has helped to extend the life of the boot and makes them waterproof proof on a light rainy day. If you’re looking for suede, it does work on it but it will absorbe at least triple of what you use in regular leather. So keep that in mind. Will update in a couple of months again.

I love this stuff. It really softens the leather. There is not much in the way of shine if that is your preference. It gives good waterproofing. I have used it on a few leather briefcases, camera bags, camera straps and several pairs of shoes. it will darken the leather. Test on a spot first. Wonderful smell, and your hands feel great when you are done too. Great stuff.

I had never heard of this product until I watched a video by Pat Puckett and he uses this on his saddles. If its good enough for him, then Im at least going to try it. I have used mink oil before to condition leather but found it to be hard to apply and the aroma was not my favorite. This product very quickly goes from a solid, semi solid, almost liquid very quickly. I applied it to my new trail saddle which was bone dry and the leather is very supple now. I like with the way it darkened my roughout saddle, if that isnt okay with you, dont use. Water and sweat are the enemy to leather, and a trail saddle will experience both if you ride at all. I like oils for very dry leather but always end up tipping the bottle or somehow spilling/wasting the oil. Not a problem with this product. It is a solid until you work with it. I think this has great potential for horse crazy kids and frugal parents. Protect the leather good investment and avoid wasted product. This is now my favorite leather conditioner. I will be out walking in wet grass soon so I will be able to update waterproofing of boots. I did receive my first jar of this without a lid. I asked for an exchange and Amazon sent a replacement. Will be buying again.

I wanted to treat new Chippewa boots with a product that would help them survive a New York City winter full of snow, rain and salt. After researching many products, I found Obenaufs. Thank goodness I did!

Obenauf’s Heavy Duty LP

Industrial strength leather preservative (lp) was originally developed for protecting and waterproofing firefighters leather work boots. Heavy Duty LP is a leather conditioner made with our natural oil and beeswax formula. This unique Beeswax/Propolis Suspension Formula protects leather against caustic fire retardant chemicals, heat, water, and abrasion. Natural oils in Heavy Duty LP are gradually released into the fibers as a long term lubrication. Heat and flexing cause oils to be released, oiling the leather when it needs it most, making this an excellent leather boot conditioner. Before application, a spot test is recommended because Heavy Duty LP will darken your leather and nubuck. Not recommended for Suede. Made in the USA.

Apply Heavy Duty LP to your:

  • Leather Work Boots
  • Saddle Bags and Chaps
  • Belts
  • Holsters
  • Sheathes
  • Baseball Gloves
  • And more!

Originally Developed for Firefighters

Heavy Duty LP

Over 30 years ago, an Idaho Wildland Firefighter developed this unique Beeswax/Propolis Suspension Formula to protect leather against caustic fire retardant chemicals, ash, heat, water, and abrasion. Natural oils are gradually released into the fibers as a long-term lubrication. Heat or continued flexing causes oils to be released faster. Leather gets oiled when and where it needs it most; while on the job!

Recommended Application

At room temperature, apply by hand as body temperature helps melt LP into leather. Two applications last longer in wet conditions. For absorption, allow ten minutes or up to one hour between treatments. On smooth leather, buff off excess with a clean cloth. On nubuck, use a soft bristled brush. One ounce should provide one application to a pair of tall boots. Apply every 6 to 8 weeks or as needed.

Extensive Lab and Field Testing Compared Obenauf"s Against Other Products. Rated Superior and Proven to Resist:

  • Dynamic and Static Water Penetration
  • Scuffing and Abrasion
  • Manure Acid, Salt, Chemicals
  • Premature Cracking and Parching Due to Heat
  • Stitch Tear and Dry Rot
  • Perspiration
