Greater than one weekIf you have leather boots and gloves, live up north and need a good all weather sealant THIS is it. It is all natural tree resin and beeswax to keep the leather supple while blocking out harsh elements and keeping your stuff dry. Its very easy to apply, just use your bare hands to apply it thoroughly and let it sit. My husband used this for his Cabelas boots (they specifically recommended using this for his boots) AND his Carhart leather hunting gloves that he got for Christmas. Whenever hes gone out to get snow and ice off his truck before work, his hands and feet were still 100% dry. It did slightly darken the color of his boots and gloves but it has done the job and still has his gloves and boots looking like new. 10/10 would recommend.

> 3 dayThe odor is very light and pleasant, natural. I used it on our couch where the leather squeaks when rubbing against itself. This took care of the squeak for maybe a day. For the time it takes to rub this in, it isnt worth daily application to me. The dogs thought it smelled interesting, and I also dont want to encourage them to eat the couch anymore than they already try to do.

> 3 dayThe reason I purchased this preservative is for use in the leather foot bed of sandals to prevent them from collecting summer foot grossness. Without any protection, the foot bed gets sweaty and odor-iffic. I read that this stuff prevents bacteria growth and is a waterproofing agent, so I decided to give it a try. I just applied it to two brand new pairs of sandals yesterday, so I havent put them through any daily use yet, but Im already a fan of this stuff! The preservative soaks in very well, and has a pleasant, faint, honey-like smell. This preservative is almost like butter, and is very easy to use. The warmth of your fingers is enough to melt it just slightly and begin the absorption process. After applying with my fingers I used a hair-dryer set to high heat and it really helped to melt it completely into the leather. You can literally see it becoming one with with the leather! While you can tell that there is a just a hint of waxiness to the treated surface, its much more natural than I was expecting. I applied 3 layers and can hardly tell its there. Im guessing it will become even less evident as I continue to wear them. **One bit of warning on color change: It darkens light-colored leather quite a bit. In fact, Id say a LOT. What was initially a creamy, light-colored leather foot-bed (would call it a very light flesh-tone) became many shades darker (like a well-tanned beach babe) after application. I didnt mind the color change, but is something to keep in mind if you are concerned about any color change from your original light leather color. The color change for darker brown and black leather was almost imperceptible. But light will be quite a bit darker after this stuff is applied. The only sort of downside is that it takes several hand-washings and some soapy scrubbing to completely remove the waxiness from your fingers after applying it. But its not terrible, and certainly not a deal-breaker.

> 3 dayWhether your boots say “waterproof” or not - this boot preservative is a must. Don’t be fooled by spray-on “preservatives”. The all natural ingredients last far longer than the synthetic alternatives out there. I wear my boots every day on the farm and they get a lot of wear - water, mud and dirt. I apply Obenaufs several times per year and when my boots finally wear out it’s because there’s holes in the sole - the leather is still in good shape! Great stuff.

08-06-2025I use heavy rough-out leather work gloves that get dirty. Periodically, I need to wash the gloves the clean the grime off of them. But when the gloves dry, they get extremely hard and difficult to wear. I applied this balm to the hardened gloves, rubbed it in for a couple of minutes and let the gloves sit over night. The next day, they were soft and very comfortable to wear again. For my work gloves, that was all I was hoping for. But it was evident the gloves went from light gray to a much darker gray. Again, for me, these are gloves intended to work in dirty environments so darkening is of no concern. But if you have nicely made dress gloves, be aware this may darken the glove. Not sure how you can test a dress glove without committing it potential discoloration. But this will condition and soften the leather.

Greater than one weekSaved a leather steering wheel on my old truck that had a large area that wore out. Took about 6 applications but my steering wheel is soft again. I am very happy.
