Used Obenauf on my hunting boots prior to a Elk hunt in New Mexico and my boots repelled snow, sleet and stream crossing like a champ. Very please with the performance of Obenauf beeswax formula.

The shoes that have Obenaufs applied are SET FURTHER BACK IN THE PHOTOS, except for the photos with the Timberlands, where Obenaufs was applied to the shoe on the right. In the photos, all shoes have been washed with saddle soap and treated with Bickmores Bick 4 conditioner before applying Obenaufs (a bit excessive, Im aware). Seems to be a nice heavy leather conditioner/protectant, I chose to use Obenaufs because of rumors that mink oil can cause leather to degrade and rot. I used it on some light-colored leathers as well because I figured that I didnt really care about the color darkening a bit, and I like being able to walk without worrying about sudden rain showers or puddles. On more naturally textured leathers (my Johnston & Murphy Charlene oxfords (black), Vince Camuto blur Udessa oxfords, Timberlands in pebbled leather (not nubuck), oiled leather Birkenstocks, Lucky Brand Cahill flats), this tends to have a matte finish. On smoother leathers (Adidas Superstars, the collar on my Timberlands, Doc Martens), this leaves more of a shiny, oily finish (after a few hours, I buff off the excess with a soft cloth). It did not completely smooth out any scrapes and scuffs, but I found the finish to be pleasant. Where there were creases in the shoe, I found that Obenaufs soaked in more thoroughly; in the naturally textured leathers, the creased areas seemed dryer, and on smoother leathers, the LP seemed to pool and looked more shiny. If you apply Obenaufs excessively, it dries white, so please avoid doing so if possible. this can probably be buffed out with a cloth or brush. The smell was almost honey-like, but vaguely chemical and not entirely pleasant. I would recommend this for deep conditioning and future environmental protection, but this will not resolve existing damage (scrapes, scuffs, textural damage).

I wanted to treat new Chippewa boots with a product that would help them survive a New York City winter full of snow, rain and salt. After researching many products, I found Obenaufs. Thank goodness I did!

Bought this to pair with my Danner Super Rainforest boots. Seems to waterproof them ok, the only thing I wish they supplied was a foam applicator like what doc marten used to back in the day. They recommend using your hands and fingers to apply it, Then your body heat helps melt the product and work into the boots. I’ll update in a couple months after we get thru the real test of winter.

I have been using this product for year on all my leather goods that touch real weather outside, such as rain and snow and dirt and what not. Easy to apply if you follow the instructions, multiple applications is the best way. Depending on how you use your leather products will depend on how long your application of this product will last. The more use out of them, like boots, the more often you will need to apply. For me and my world, my boots will get this at least twice a year. Gloves that get used more often, definitely get more applications. It is easy enough. Crank your oven to 250 or so, put your leather product in there, be careful if it has other non-leather pieces on it. Let the item sit to heat up, pull it out carefully and apply as much of the product that the leather will absorb. I personally place it back in the oven again (multiple times if need be), to heat it again and keep applying, until it looks and feels like it will not absorb any more. Great stuff.

Absorbs very well into the leather & some will prefer that, but it leaves such little residue on the surface that I dont notice any waterproofing benefit. I used to get a German saddle soap in an orange cannister like this that had a better smell, like beeswax, and worked much better all around, but I havent been able to find it in years so thought Id try this. Ill try something else next time, especially for boots, and I mostly already use other stuff on tack. Definitely just a leather conditioner, not weatherproofing, and Ill get a saddle soap again next time.
