i’m extremely invested in hue (lights, switches, strips, etc) and have used these sensors in various ways in three different homes. i love the flexibility - programming for me has been great, they are responsive, and work well (when they’re working). i found out tonight that my second sensor has gone bad. i’m having hvac problems and about to go out of town. since they also monitor temperature, i thought i’d move my basement closet sensor into the room i wanted to monitor. not only is this sensor not working, but i’m unable to reset it; and fresh batteries don’t do anything (just like the last one, which i contacted philips about to eventually find that the only thing i could do is buy another - which i did). 2 of 3 of these sensors have gone bad for me…that’s $100 out of $150 spent on these alone. it’s a huge bummer and i definitely feel stuck because i love these things and the other hue stuff i have, but i’m not real excited to spend another $50 with no promise of improvement. hope something is in-the-works to make these better.

Excellent motion detector. Great for automation of hue lights. Great for use with existing hue lights and hue bridge. Plug and play. I use one in the kitchen and one in the master bath. Different light levels can be programmed at different times. The delay for turning off the lights can be adjusted as well.

I’m automating a lot of things in my place so I can be as lazy as I wanna be, and that includes replacing all my bulbs with smart Hues. I wanted a way to lightly illuminate the path to the bathroom when I’m stumbling about in the middle of the night so this is mounted on the ceiling so when it senses my big bumbling body anytime between sundown and sunup, it turns on the lights at 1% brightness. Necessary? Probably not. Convenient? Yep.

Didnt like that it had to be screwed into the surface it was mounting to. In the end the sensor was too big and bulky and I returned it. Now there are screw holes left behind.

Works perfect, easy set up with app. Hue app allows custom settings. Love Hue Motion Sensor.

Works well but software holds it back. if they allowed for more customization within the hue app, this could be very useful. Will update if they improve the software.

I have four of these. One is in my office, so the lights turn on when I enter. One is above the front door so the light turns on for guests. One is in the garage so the lights turn on when we go out there (as well as turning on the attic light, which we forget to turn off many times) and one in the laundry room so the light turns on when carry a load of laundry in there. The added benefit is when I use the the Hue widget, I can see the temperatures in those parts of my home at a glance. They are instantaneous, and the batteries seem to last forever. I have had the office one for 3 years and it is going strong.

Funny story. A friend from out of town came and stayed with me right after we’d just installed this into the bathroom. She goes in to take a shower and comes back out a couple seconds later with this in her hand, sets it on the counter, and says “I don’t know what this is but it looks like a camera and it’s freaking me out.” It was hilarious! We just started laughing and explained to her what it was and that it was important unless she wanted to take a very dark shower! Then my mom came over and said “I assume that’s not a camera or something...” No guys, were not creepers!! We promise. Technology... Anyways, these add such a nice touch to our hue system! They’re really easy to install, and have a good motion sensing range in the. The first one we installed was in the bathroom which is actually really convenient. Just make sure you set the timer to longer than the length of your shower or you’ll find yourself sticking your arms out of the shower curtain waving like a maniac till it finds you... yeah that happened. But we switched the timer and it’s really nice! And you can always either tell Alexa to turn the lights off or do it from your phone - you just have to ruin all the habits your parents taught you about turning light off when you leave a room which is actually a lot harder than I thought it’d be! I’m excited to add them into the walk in closet too, I think that will be really nice. Definitely would recommend them!
