I walked into this purchase with a full expectation that it could be a total miss. Connecting the unit and securing it was super straight forward. I see not issues with that part if you have the space for this device. As a network engineer getting it connected to Wifi was more complicated, not because it wasnt simple enough, but because the Android App just kept spinning during Wifi Setup. My solution was to grab my wifes iPhone and do the setup from the Apple app. This was a much smoother experience so Android users take note. I have no experience with the iPhone app after that point and I dont think my wife looks at it at all. The Android app however is a bit hit or miss. It worked fine for a few months and then one day it just stopped working after a notification that it lost wifi connection. Opening up the app each time caused it to crash over and over and over. The only thing that fixed it was to clear the cache and data on the app and then login to it. Doing this does not delete the historical data which is nice. In the end free lifetime app support is a trade off for some frustrating elements.

For starters, our house is on a slope and we have a ton of water underneath so much that our pump ran almost every hour. I had several floods and wanted something to notify me and contacts of my choosing. For that, the pump spy works. The application UX could be better. The reason I cant give it a 5 star rating is because of the amount of false positives. For instance, after a recent flood, I said enough is enough and we installed a gravity drain and the sump no longer runs. Every once in a while Ill open the app to find out my sump pump has ran 10 consecutive days, its not possible! Emails to the company support were returned, i explained how are sump pump doesnt run and they assured me that the data is correct. Cmon!!! You mean to tell me on a pit thats no mostly dry that my sump pump is running? This is a disappointment. I really wanted to rate them higher. ***Update 11/4**** I was contacted by pump spy and offered a suggestion. Because I have the pump sentry inverter I needed to plug the spy into the inverter instead of the way I had it which was the inverter plugged into the pump spy. I had to purchase a 6 inch AC adapter for the pump spy to fit in the inverter. Hopefully this works better for me. Im changing my initial review to a 4 star. I will consider to monitor.

Setup in 5 minutes per directions. Will send direct phone notifications and sms. Only thing negative is it must use 2.4 ghz wifi (not compatible with 5.1 ghz) however 2.4 ghz works better at longer distances and through walls or across floors. Wifi signal is strong even though my router is on 1st floor and unit placed in basement. Monitors power, high water level float sensor, sump cycles and time sump on per day, and even estimates gallons pumped out per cycle and total per day. Can monitor multiple pumpspy sensors at multiple locations as well. Running app on android. 3 years later the unit has been solid. For example today halfway through tropical storm Ida, weve pumped out 700 gallons so far, with the main sump running every 8 seconds (thanks Pumpspy)! Note I would still recommend a hydrostatic backup sump pump (requires no power). During a prior storm with flooding we lost power. Pumpspy notified me immediately. Power was down for 8 hours, and the hydrostatic pump saved us.

I always wanted something that could tell me real time information about the status of my sump pump. This nifty device does everything I want. Fit and finish of the unit are great. The packaging and literature were top notch too. Definitely a five star product except when it comes to the software piece. I had a lot of trouble setting this baby up. I have a Pixel 2 running Android version 9. I followed the instructs precisely and the green ring on the unit illuminated. However, I couldnt see any data in the app. I then tried it several more times without success. The part that was failing was after I connected to the PumpSpy WiFi. I then am supposed to click home and open the app so that I can select my home Wifi network. Instead, I was getting some pop up that showed some information on the unit. There was a button that took me to the Wifi setup where I selected my home Wifi and entered the password. The screen went grey and a confusing message appeared saying something like the connection was successful, but the web services stopped and also something about See UART... for details (or something like that). I was able to get this working by using an older S6. I also ran into issues on that device too, but eventually got it to work. I successfully connected to the PumpSpy, hit the home button, opened the app, found my Wifi network, and connected to it. The green ring light up too. Then, it just sat there and I couldnt exit the screen. I closed/reopened the app and tried the set up process multiple times, but it wouldnt work. I realized that it wasnt connecting to my Wifi even though it appeared to. So, I manually disconnected from PumpSpy and connected to my Wifi. I opened the app and I finally saw a picture of the device (that wasnt there before) and stats were available when I clicked on it. I ran a test with the high water sensor and I got alerts. I figured now it would work on my Pixel. I was wrong. I opened the app, but no device icon showed up. Closing/reopening the app did not fix it. I finally got it working by logging off the app and doing a fresh log in by entereing the account and password I set up earlier. It was a bit of a headache and consumed 1.5 hours, but now its working and I feel better knowing I can check on the pump especially when Im not home and that big storm hits.

I own two of these. Ive had both for about 2-3 years. They are essentially Wifi enabled smart outlets that let you know how often your sump has gone off. In addition, they offer some estimates on volume pumped etc. If those estimates are accurate I cant say. Whats been most valuable for me is knowing how fast my sump(s) are running and if my secondary sump has activated (indicating an issue with the primary). I also have a battery backup sump, which has an audible alarm so Im not using these for emergency notifications on my sump. Ive had my basement flood twice so Im nervous during storms. What this does it give me confidence if Im not home, or a heads up if I am to get my external sump ready. Previously, they used to store several months worth of sump activity that you could see on the app and document with a screen shot if desired. It would have been nice if there was a way to download the information, but there wasnt. In the past year theyve limited the history to only about 90 days, which is OK, but it was better when you could look at information further in the past. UPDATE In the past couple of days (June 2022) they have updated the APP and as a result all the history data has been erased and the you can only see how many times the pump has run that day and when the last run was. This makes it very limited in use. The app is everything for this product. Without it, its a totally useless plug adapter. For the money I would consider looking at something else. Especially as PumpSpy explicitly says they can share your sump pump data with anyone, apparently except you with the latest APP update. UPDATE 2: So in July 2022 they returned the history data, which was most welcome. However, the APP is having serious problems. Today (8/1/22) it wont even let me see my sumps or log off to try and log back on. Ive emailed customer support and they immediately closed my request for assistance after acknowledging in. I think their App and customer support has seriously gone to hell in a handbasket. I already own two, so Ill hand in there a bit, but if youre looking avoid this for now.

The device itself seems to be working, hence my 4-star rating. If I had to rate the Android app and the installation process, I would give it zero stars. The app repeatedly asks for login (unlike other apps that remember you), and then churns and churns for random periods of time. Then it shows a black screen for another random period before showing the home screen. It also freezes at various other times during use. This is the first app Ive encountered that does not recognize the phones Back button as the equivalent of the Back function of the app. Instead, if you touch the Back button at the bottom of the phone, it throws you out and you have to log in again, and there goes several more minutes... The installation is also made hard by the fact that your phone must connect to the PumpSpy devices local wifi network (activated by pushing the button on the front of the device) to tell it how to connect to broadband via your homes wifi network; however, while your phone is connected to the device, you cannot create or log into a PumpSpy cloud account because your phone is not connected to broadband. Confused yet? Anyhow, after some effort, it all worked out and hopefully I will never have to do it again.

We were concerned our sump pump was running too often. PumpSpy was super simple to install, and works exactly as advertised. We can see historical data on when and for how long our sump pump operates. The App also provides an “estimate” of the volume pumped, which is not really accurate but we don’t use that info. The high level alarm will text us an alarm as well. All in all a great investment for peace of mind!

I like the concept, however, the installation was a bit clunky. They certainly have room to improve the installation process. I would have given 5 stars if the application was a bit better and if the installation process worked more seamlessly.

Well our main objective was to see its coming on works for that for the most part - Its misses at least one cycle per day maybe its under the 2 second threshold but all the others are 2.91 seconds rolling at 90 min consistently then we get a 180 min gap - The history is stuck on eastern time though it does give you your time zone for last run - it seems to estimate 1 gallon per second we have a 80 GPM not accurate and you cant configure it Summary: At least you know its running for the most part but could be better with configure if you have a quick hitter powerful pump we would look elsewhere the sensitivity at the smart plug needs improved Last:Sometimes you have to lanch the app twice to see your pump. It took two shots when we set it up eg configuring the wifi app went into spin mode first time and we have 240 mbs about 12 ft from the plug....the outlet actually connected but the app no dice -

Buyer beware. I bought this product it worked great for a week and then did not function after that. I reached out to support for over a week they had me troubleshoot the product myself. I am still trying to send the product back to have it tested or replaced. I hope I can rewrite a review and tell you they fixed this product for me and everything works fine. Stay tuned. I’m happy to say I returned this product and they replaced their product with a brand new one. It’s been over a month now and seems to be working just fine. Thank you pump spy for backing your product.
