> 24 hourActually bought four of these for bookcases that I own. Just use a stud finder and look for a stud anywhere behind your bookcase. Center would be best but it doesnt really matter. From the top of your bookcase go down a few inches and mark a spot right in the middle of the stud. This is so the straps can be hidden. Take a washer put it on the screw then add the strap behind it (Velcro facing you) and screw it into the mark you previously made on your wall. Push the bookcase up against the wall and since the velcro was facing you, it will now face downward on top of your bookcase. Remove the backing of the velcro cloth and stick it to the top of your bookcase ensuring that there is little to no play in the strap anchored to your wall. You have now successfully earthquake proofed (or toddler proofed in my case) your bookcase. Rinse and repeat on all of your dressers, bookcases, etc until you are complete. I personally use a drill bit to pre tap so the screw goes in easier. I also use a corded drill for the drilling and screwing. Installing two straps on a bookcase takes me less than 5 minutes with power tools and that includes finding the studs and making sure theres no electrical there. Putting that long screw into a stud by hand would require some immense hand strength and probably 10 minutes per strap easily. If youre not putting it into a stud and just in sheetrock you might as well not even have these. 20 lb of pulling pressure and youll blow the sheetrock out and the whole thing will come crashing down. Even with sheetrock anchors it would still be questionable so just put it in the stud. Again doesnt have to be center because the straps are about a foot long and you can adjust where you put the stickers for the velcro. Better safe than sorry. You wont regret this purchase if you have kids or live in an earthquake prone area or both.

> 24 hourI recently purchased a tall chest for my sons room. It is made if solid wood so its pretty heavy. Since the drawers had a slight new furniture odor I decided to open them to let them air out. I made the mistake of opening them all at once because the chest fell on me. I was able to catch it with my arms and push it back up. Fortunately, I was left with only a few bruises on my arms. But, I know a small child may not be so lucky if a piece of furniture like this falls on them. I immediately started searching for something to secure the chest to the wall. I was surprised that none of my local stores carried anything for this purpose. I was happy to finally find this product on amazon. I put it up immediately and it seems to be doing the job. The part that attaches to the furniture is adhesive so I think that if I tried to remove it, the wood would likely get damaged. But, I dont ever plan to take it off so thats not an issue. I should mention that we used a stud finder so that we could attach this to studs behind the drywall for added strength. I think this is a great kit to have for securing furniture in kids rooms. I would recommend it. UPDATE 12/28/12: My son opened all the drawers in his chest which is what caused it to fall on me before I installed the Quakehold. But, this time it didnt fall. It tilted slightly and was caught by the Quakehold. Im so glad I bought this!

> 24 hourThese furniture straps are great for everywhere, but especially here in California. Ive bought and used many of these for a lot of heavy or tall furniture, like book cases, hutches, cabinets and I used these white color straps to attach my fridge to the wall - dont want that falling on ya when the earth is shaking! Id recommend these also for anyone with small children who can climb and knock things over. Very easy to use (best with an electric drill to get the bolt into a stud) and simple safety and insurance. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

> 24 hourI recently moved to an earthquake zone, and had to buy this kit for an armoir in my house. It matched the color perfectly, and installed without any trouble. The velcro on the straps is very very strong, so much so that I had a hard time pulling it apart with my bare hands. I would definitely hold through some serious jostling, The kit hasnt been through a quake yet, but I feel a bit better knowing that the armoir is secured.

> 24 hourSo impossible to rate since the ‘big one’ has yet to hit California. Only issue is I had to re-buy this because the studs in my new apartment didn’t quite match were I put the Velcro in my previous apartment. But so simple in concept that even I could manage and I have a long history of butchering dry wall. Let’s hope I’m never truly able to rate how well these work. My bed is far enough away from the book cases at least. Now the only think that can fall on me is my entire apartment. No biggie.

> 24 hourI had these straps on my old TV and got a new TV so I needed new straps. The old straps are still on the old TV so whoever ends up with it will can screw them in and theyre all set. The end attached to the TV(s) is a very strong adhesive and about 4 inches. I live in Los Angeles and have a cat that likes to go wild behind the TV. I have friend whos cat has knocked down 2 TVs, shattering the screens. Earthquake and pet and child and adult proof.

> 24 hourI love that I didnt have to drill holes in the furniture. I tried to tip the hutch after installation and it stayed up there. We have only had one earth quake in my area in my lifetime but I got these as part of baby proofing because I couldnt get a screw to hold in the back of my china hutch. I liked them well enough that I ordered 4 more sets in various colors for other furniture.

> 24 hourSo I followed the instructions, cleaned the surface of my book shelf, stuck the Velcro on and screwed it to the wall, well I had to move some furniture around and went to undo the Velcro and the part that is suppose to stick on the shelf came unstuck, I ended up using super glue and havent had it come apart since!

> 24 hourLOVE this product. As Earthquake Country native Ive been using them for years. But now that I live elsewhere I still use them. I just feel much safer knowing that heavy furniture is rigidly affixed to the studs in the wall. Easy to install and brings tremendous piece of mind.
