Greater than one weekI had recently set up a planted tank with a driftwood piece in it. No matter what I did I could not get the driftwood to come clean per the soaking and boiling methods so I ended up using in the tank anyway and tada, lots of tannins leached out. After about 3 weeks I really got tired of the brown water and bought some of this. Cleared the water in my 10 gallon in 4 hours! The water is crystal clear and finally looks like a nice tank! It came in it’s own little pouch that you put directly into your filter housing. I gave it a quick rinse and popped in the housing. Literally just set it and forget it. Super easy.

> 3 dayIm so impressed with this product. I recently ordered one 100ml bag of Purigen for the first time to try in a tank with a piece of mopani wood that was leaching tannins like crazy. I had boiled and soaked and boiled and soaked the wood for several weeks and even after being in the tank for another couple of weeks (and several partial water changes), my tank water was still slightly tea colored. I put the bag of Purigen in one evening and by the time I woke up the next morning, my water was crystal clear. I can tell a noticeable difference in the water clarity of all my tanks compared to the one with Purigen. I now swear by this stuff and will be adding it to all of my tanks from here on out. It came as described and the product was in fact in a bag. The size of the bag and media fits perfectly in my filter compartments and I have small tanks compared to most (5.5 gallon for betta fish). It arrived without damage and exactly when expected. I couldnt be happier!

> 3 dayWhen it comes to keeping excess nutrients and other not so great stuff under control, we as Marine Aquarists do our best, but at times things just get away from us. I consider Purigen to be my chemical balance insurance policy. It wont do much if your salinity is out of whack, granted, but as far as phosphates or other nasties, itll do so much better than carbon ever could. And, if you trust yourself to treat it properly, after the grains have gone from white to very brown/black, you can bring it back to life with a chlorine soak and then a chlorine neutralizer. But then, at 1 bag per 100 gallons, and $9 (my local fish store wants $12) and Prime shipping, why not just get new and remove the risk of chlorinating your fishy friends? If youre on the fence, try it, you certainly wont regret it and it really cant hurt anything.

> 3 daySeachem has created yet another great product. I use one of these in a 30 gallon tank with a lot of driftwood. It does an amazing job of keeping the water crystal clear and free of tannin discoloration. I replace it once a month. This is not an exchange resin, so you can use it over and over. The beauty of this product is that you can re-charge it by cleaning it in a chlorine bath for 24 hours. Clear the chlorine using Seachmen Prime only! The directions are clear, and you can see many examples of the cleaning process on YouTube. I use two bags. One in my filter, and one that I clean..Thus I can swap a clean bag each time I clean my filter. Keep the clean Purigen bag wet between uses. I just put it in a Tupperware container with water. It really is an amazing product.

> 3 dayI absolutely love purigen! I use it on all 6 of my tanks. I first discovered it when setting up my first reef tank, and never looked back. Nitrates and phosphates undetectable in all my tanks. This will not replace a protein skimmer but it complements it wonderfully. My favorite part is that you can regenerate it when ever it gets exhausted. I do find it takes more bleach than recommended when its really dark and DO NOT use a scented bleach! Original Clorox works best Ive found, and seachem prime to dechlorinate as some other dechlorinators can stain it brown permanently and then its hard to tell when its time to regenerate.

> 3 dayIm still a newb to this awesome hobby, although an anal retentive one at that. Since my aquarist adventures began in Feb. 2014, Ive struggled with out of control ammonia, nitrite, nitrate along with a horrible case of ich which claimed 10 of my fishs lives within 72hrs. No amount of fiddling and water changes had any lasting positive effects. So along with Seachem Matrix Carbon, I placed this in my Penguin Biowheel 150 for my 29gal long aquarium on a Friday afternoon and by the following Monday afternoon, my tank was pristine and transparent. After one week of Purigen, my ammonia/nitrite/nitrate were reading 0ppm each! Without a doubt this is my most favored and result oriented filter media purchase. Not only are my babies swimming and healthy, my water no longer has a pungent stench each time I lift the lid. The contents of the box contains 1 pouch sealed with Purigen small enough to fit inside a hang on back filter for up to 105 gallons of water. Its completely submeged inside my Penguin 150 alongside the matrix carbon pouch. My favored way is to use the Accurel waste and debris reducing media pad first, then the matrix carbon and lastly the Purigen. I left the BioWheel in place because its not juxtaposed with the above media at all. Ive heard from other users not to bother with carbon, but according to Seachems website advice, carbon actually enhances/prolongs Purigen. So why not? Ive yet to actually regenerate Purigen; its only been in use for 10 days. Ive considered purchasing another 100ml pouch and store it away until I need to regenerate my original. All in all Im ecstatic with the results and look forward to many months and eventually years with Purigen. Do yourself a huge favor and make this your next purchase...immediately. I guarantee with proper use, youll be immediately and continuously satisfied. My 29 gallon setup 6 Cardinal Tetras 5 Black Skirt Tetras 4 Small Silver Dollars 3 Flame Gouramis 2 Rainbow Sharks 2 Red Tail Sharks 2 Mosquito Fish (I love these little suckers to death!) 1 Dojo Loach 1 Golden Loach 1 Fancy Guppy (3 have perished before Purigen was added...unknown as to why)

> 3 dayMy water was very clear to begin with, but now I cant even see the flow pattern in my tank because of how much clearer Purigen made it. Its easy to use, works with ferts and CO2, and you dont need a lot of it to see the effects. Cool that you can recharge it when it gets dirty. Wont ever be as clean as new, but you can get it pretty clean. Or just buy a new pack when the time comes. Totally worth the investment, and Ill be running Purigen in all of my future tanks. Just be careful when using Purigen with medication and slime coat enhancers. I would recommend using a separate quarantine tank for treatments, but if not, be sure to take the Purigen out before treatment. It can absorb chemicals from meds and slime coat enhancers that can become toxic and leach into your water over time/after you recharge your Purigen. I got this info from Seachem Customer Support.

> 3 dayThis product is amazing! The entire packet can be used in a tank from 5 gallons up to 100. I had been told driftwood needed to be boiled before putting in a tank. I did so many times and when I thought the water was no longer brown, I put it in my tank. Within days it looked like my fish were swimming in coffee. Purigen to the rescue! I put a packet where my filter media goes and by the end of the week, my water was crystal clear. The packet was filled with the tannins released by the driftwood. The great thing about Purigen is that after you soak it in bleach, rinse thoroughly, soak it in clean water and let it dry out, it recharges and can be used many more times.

> 3 dayI haven’t taken it out of the packaging yet, I’m going to wait until my first filter maintenance to pop this bag in the very top... I’m running a penn plax 1000 on a 55 gallon chichlid tank
