These are poor quality for Seachem. I ordered 4 of these and the mesh bags are allowing the small white material to escape. Never had this issue before but also never bought this from Amazon before as well.

Really made a huge difference with my Axolotl tank. I have 2 HOBS and put this in one and next day crystal clear water and it’s staying that way. This is one of the best aquarium products I’ve purchased. Will buy again.

This stuff is a miracle. We had a goldfish tank (30 gal, overfiltered 30 + 70 Fluval filters) that, no matter what we tried, was just filthy, with high nitrates (despite an established cycle). Carbon inserts werent doing anything. Having good luck with Seachem products so far, we tried this, and the results were great! Within a few hours you get crystal-clear water. After 2 months of having 1 bag in each filters, our nitrates are finally at zero. Weve paired it with Seachems Pristine, so between these two products, we have a healthy tank. The refresh cycle is easy, as long as you follow the instructions, and Ive had no problem with the bags breaking as some have described. A must-have for any tank.

Needs a 180 micron bag. Easy to use, cleaned up tanins well and water is clear! Happy with it so far. Have not gotten to the point of regeneration with bleach yet, hopefully that goes well.

I love the real Purigen. I use it in all my tanks. I’m leaving five stars for the actual product. But what I received in the latest order was fake Purigen. The real Purigen packaging is thick plastic, with two panels flat-welded together along the sides, top, and bottom. The fake package is made from a tube of thin plastic, crimped at the top and bottom. Once opened, the smell of the fake Purigen is strong and sour. The inside of the package was covered in loose particles that had fallen through the mesh bag containing the knock-off Purigen. The biggest and easiest-to-spot difference is the product itself. The real Purigen comes in a fine-mesh bag, nearly square, and welded together with no seams. It’s just a flat, smooth packet. The fake Purigen bag is a long, thin rectangle nearly the length of the packaging with a seam down the middle of one side. The mesh on the fake bag is too large, allowing the particles to fall through.

Seachem Purigen is a good product if you have ammonia, nitrite, nitrate problems. I have a dwarf shrimp farming business and I use this in two of my tanks because shrimp are more sensitive to water quality than fish. I definitely keep the nitrogenous compounds at nearly 0 in the water with this product. As far as the claims for this product go, I have to say they are accurate. Using this in an eheim classic I have 0/0/0 of the nitrogenous compounds. So why did I give this four stars? Well, I have no proof of this but it seems as if purigen does take a small amount of nutrients out of the water as well. My evidence is that the tanks I use this in, the shrimp do not seem to reproduce and thrive as well as the tanks I do not use this in (shrimp use nutrients in the water column). I would definitely recommend this product to fish keepers and anyone that has problems with nitrogenous compounds, but for shrimp keepers I would recommend using an additional nutrient source when using purigen.

For so many years I was trying to find the right filter-filter media. I just wanted to accomplish one goal, that the water was clear and healty in the aquarium, the kind of water you see in the pictures of aquarium books. I did try powerheads with sponge filters, them moved to waterfalls, then to bigger waterfalls, trickle filters, then to canister filters. With the canister filter I tried many different filter media: carbon, phosphate remover, floss, more sponge, ceramic noodles, peat and many more things. Nothing worked to accomplish my goal, until I found Purigen: Not only helped me to accomplish my goal but it did it in one night, I did put a fluidized kind of filter with Purigen on it, and at the next day the water was clear and looked healthy, I didnt test anything on the water, but since then I havent had any dead fish just the oposite thriving everiwher . Since the water was not clear the plants where diminish, now they are to growing, they get more light. The fluidized filter got messy, so I got back to the canister filter, put the Purigen on The Bag and the results are the same stunning results. Seachem caught my attention, after Purigen I did use Matrix on the canister filter, just to make sure the filtration was optimum. I been using Prime and Stability. To me perfect water. Now I am testing Flourish Excel and Flourish is on the way to me. The DIY CO2 generator is on the trash. If you are reading this, and you are considering Purigen, go for it. Hopefully it will get you to the level of satisfaction that I got.

Like many people, I was confused when I received this product because it was very different to what I usually purchase in the store. The mesh bag was longer and and the package it came in was a lot larger. After seeing many 1-2 star reviews claiming the product was counterfeit, I decided to reach out directly to Seachem. Heres what they said: We did briefly try out a a new bagging method for the Purigen packs. However, we have since gone back to the older version. It is not counterfeit! Simply a change from Seachem. Since it is online however, there is no telling whether you will receive the original size or this trial change. For people who expect specific dimensions this could be inconvenient. To sum up, I managed to accommodate for the different sized bag, and needless to say it is working just as spectacularly as I remember Purity working.

Seachem Purigen is the only chemical filtration I ever use. It is as effective as activated carbon, but with none of the downsides. Purigen can be used for about 12 months, and after that, it can be recharged with household bleach and reused (follow instructions). It also does not clog and release harmful substances back into the water, like carbon does. Every serious aquarist should be aware of this product and use it when needed.

After setting up my freshwater planted tank and dealing with tannis (which is driftwood coloring your water), I was going nuts doing repeat water changes/filter pad changes trying to get rid of that brown tint. Then while researching different supplements I use (such as Flourish or Iron), I found out that Seachem makes another one called Purigen. This was a test purchase; I got the small 100ml bag as other reviews mentioned it comes in its own filter bag (note you cant open it and replace it with another media). Overnight my tank cleared up. Blew my mind. My plants are still doing great as are my fish, so its not soaking up my supplements. Its literally doing exactly what I wanted; soak up the discolorations. So if you have new driftwood, have a planted tank, and want to have it nice and clear, give Purigen a shot. I havent had it long enough to recharge it, but you can do that as well. So thats another plus on this product.

Seachem Purigen is not a mixture of ion exchangers or adsorbents, but a unique macro-porous synthetic polymer that removes soluble and insoluble impurities from water at an excelled rate and capacity.
