Sennheiser HD 650 - Audiophile Hi-Res Open Back Dynamic Headphone

On the same amp, Pro-ject HeadBox II SE (class A 750mw), both my HiFiMan HE400i and HE400s sound better. Way better. I let the Senns break in for almost 2 weeks, I didnt notice much improvement after the first week though. Main differences were shallower sound stage and these are really bright and lack bass. For high end open back cans the sound is very directional. I sent them back before I could try them on a different amp, my friend had a similar review listening from a schiit amp. He heard my HiFiMan 400is and then got himself a pair of those. Cheaper too.

Sennheiser went the PXC 550 route of uncomfortable headphones with these. The problem with the PXC 550s is that the cups are made for small ears (i.e. they decided baby ears were about as big as adults ears get). The 650s continue this madness in that the headband width was modeled carefully and extensively by the ergonomic engineers at Sennheiser to perfectly fit an Easter Island head. They are TIGHT and NARROW and I have a pretty long and narrow face, if you have a bigger/wider head you are going to get worse headaches than I did wearing these for any length of time. On top of this the cup padding feels like they decided that stone was too soft a material, it is extremely stiff. This all combines to make a very headache inducing experience.

I intend use this headphone for enjoying music with my I phone But sound is very poor. I would like to reject this headphone.and send me another head phone.

Sounds quite good straight from 3.5 mm audio outputs (surprisingly good from an iPhone 6S, more than acceptable sound levels at 70% max output), and thought that was it. But amidst all the noise on the web about these cans, the need to drive them with enough wattage is true. Bought a JDS Labs Element DAC-AMP for them - and wow! As a listening test, try Antonio Sanchezs Birdman OMP soundtract CD with well-amped HD650. The dynamics are really impressive. I feel like rediscovering my entire CD collection. For the price, strongly recommended.

Its the perfect choice for listening some classical music or film OST. And the most important thing is the DAC and AMP.

The Behemoth af all headphones according to my son who is a sound technician and worth every penny.
