Stanwood Needlecraft Large Metal Yarn/Fiber/Wool/String Ball Winder - 10 oz

Oh, this winder is so much fun! I had so many partially-used skeins of yarn that were such a problem to store. With this winder, I was able to produce nice compact balls that fit easily into my yarn storage drawers. I have only used it for standard craft-store yarns, so I dont know about how it would work for designer, or homespun yarns.

It makes a skein into a cupcake....soooo much better than trying to find the start of the yarn on a skein. Operation is smooth and doesnt jerk at all. I put it on a tv tray and it works great!

Im so happy that I indulged in this ball winder. A good friend recommended it for its sturdiness. She was right! Its easy to assemble and with a little practice, winding up a skein of yarn is a breeze. This particular brand is so worth it. The gears arent flimsy plastic like some others that I looked at. Highly recommend it!

Good, strong wool winder. Useful for larger skeins of yarn. Excellent as can use yarn from the middle.

I bought this as a gift for my grandmother. It had the most consistent reviews of all the winders I looked at, and even with the higher price point I decided this is the one I wanted. We assembled it for her and it was pretty easy to put together. It does its job very well and its easy for her to use. She loves it! She has no problem taking it off of her table and reattaching it. It is a little big so its awkward to store when its not in use (she doesnt have a dedicated area for it, she just uses it in her kitchen) but I still think that it is the best one for the job. She loves it so I love it!

I purchased this to help organize my stash. I didnt want to have to break a skein to have them all in cakes so I went with this winder. After researching I found this was the best one. I have had no problems with the gears, the arm, the winder - nada. This works perfectly for me. I let my kids wind some and still had no problems. They can get a little zealous with the winder and nothing phases this thing. I would definitely recommend for anyone who wants to make beautiful yarn cakes. One thing I do love about this is that it does skeins large or small. You dont have to buy a winder for small skeins and another for large. This thing is a workhorse. Youll love it.

For all machine knitters. Anytime you have a skein or a ball of yarn, you can use this tool to make a smooth-flowing cake that wont run all over the floor as you knit. Makes tension more even. Run the yarn youre feeding over a piece of paraffin (youll find it at the grocery store with canning products) to help reduce static.

The Starwood Needlecraft LargeMetal Yarn Winder is absolutely fantastic! It is far superior to the small winder I struggled with all the time. It makes beautiful yarn cakes that are firm and compact. I went from a large tote over flowing with the yarn for my project (24 colors) to having extra room for even more yarn! Super easy to set up and operate and can handle super size skeins of yarn. I LOVE it!!!
