Tobii Eye Tracker 5

> 3 dayThis is a hardware/software product looking for a solution. - Mostly all hype! Nothing special over what is already available in games or windows 10 using standard mouse keyboard input. - Tobii Dims the screen - yeah if your screen supports Tobii. My $1500.00 4k monitor does not, but windows can power down my monitors when I am away from Keyboard and wake the monitors up when I touch the mouse/keyboard. -- Windows eye control - NOPE, not if you are using more than one monitor. If you are a serious gamer using 3 monitors - Tobii Eye Tracker offers little if any benefit. When Tobii 5 is enabled for most of the games I use that support Tobii 5 - games are actually harder to play when Tobii 5 is enabled. Tobii 5 is jerky, and prone to errors and also reduce the frame rates. In conclusion - I find no reason to use this technology especially if you are using a multiple monitor setup. Sending mine back for a refund because this product is mostly hype without a real purpose.

> 3 dayThe Tobii Eye Tracker 5 works excellently. It can track both eyes and the head. But this device has shown me how erratically I move my head and how rapidly my eyes dart around. Because of this, I returned the product. This product is better than the TrackIR line, by far- I want this to be clear. If you have used a tracker before, then this is a fantastic upgrade. But eye trackers - and head trackers - just arent for me.

> 3 dayI bought this for Star Citizen and it adds even more immersion for flying the ships. It’s very similar to VR. Same feeling with head movement. Very comfortable to use for the game and would definitely recommend for Citizens!

> 3 dayI just wanted head tracking on par with Track IR 5 without having to wear headgear to get it. Tobii ended up delivering that, and more. I have a window right next to my PC setup, and during certain times of sunny days, it would cause issues with tracking on Tir5. With Tobii 5, I have yet to see any problems with sunlight, bright lights, or even complete darkness. As far as head tracking goes, it seems to be just as responsive as Tir5. I have no complaints, so far. For games (all simulators, I have not used it with standard games yet) that dont offer integrated Tobii support, I use 3rd party software (FaceTracknoIR). It allows you to use Tobii 5 fairly easily with programs that support Track IR. It performs great for me in those situations, as well. Another thing I have noticed is it doesnt go out of whack (lose tracking) either. I can get up, go make a sandwich, and come back.....as soon as it locks on to my head and eyes, everything is back where I set it. I expected to have to reset the view often (like Tir5), but that hasnt been the case so far. Then there is eye tracking...... One sim I play is just now adding integrated Tobii support. Because it it newly added, I expect it to get better over time. Never the less, so far it is great. Head tracking is spot on, and fully adjustable. Its also my first use of eye tracking, and Im very pleased with how it works. Leaving the default setting for head to eye tracking ratio, I can move my head around the cockpit, then move the view slightly more within my head directions gaze using my eyes. I wasnt sure what to expect, but its actually pretty cool. The only downside is that every so often, the view does get out of whack, but its easily fixed with the press of a button to reset the center of view, like Tir5. Not sure if this has to do with it being newly added to the sim, or the combo of head and eye tracking, but its a minor thing that I had to do way more often with Tir5, anyways. One worry I had was monitor size support. However, through a little research, I saw the monitor size limits were focused on eye tracking. Larger monitors apparently handle head tracking just fine. You can still use eye tracking on larger then stated monitors as well, but eye tracking on the edges larger than recommended screens will suffer some. I use a 32 inch 2560x1440 16:9 monitor, and both head tracking and eye tracking have worked fine for me, so far.

> 3 dayIve been using Tobii eye trackers since 4, then 4c, now 5. I use it in gaming as well as through third party tools for accessibility. I bought the 5 within the first few days of learning about it. It has a new mount to finally attach to curved screens, better hardware size and weight, better head tracking, superior eye tracking and increased accuracy. The latter two are incredibly important to users like me and I immediately noticed. It has improved my gameplay. Now to be completely clear, I have used this with third party software called Project Iris for my needs. I cant recommend the software I use because it is very bug prone and zero support. If Tobii would ever make software that was similar I could be confident in its professional quality. The current supported games are growing but I honestly dont use that much. I did early on but my usage needs are extreme now so I create my own setups. Make sure you read the limitations such as 27 inch screens (for accuracy) must be sitting close to screen, not across a room, double check your USB version and drivers. It is reasonable to say if you have three monitors this product will definitely become an irritant if you are functioning across three, that should be fairly straightforward. The immediate and most important question is, should you upgrade now? I would say definitely if you are a power user. If you have a 4c and arent a power user you may want to wait. If you have a 4, I would definitely consider upgrading. I like supporting Tobii especially because they are a class act, support has been fantastic and they continue to innovate eye tracking. This field holds hope for many people who are disabled and less abled.

> 3 dayFor a very long time I have used a head tracker that required that I wear a hat with reflectors. The Tobi eye tracker was a seamless transition. It gave the same results without the hat reflectors and add the fine tuning by reliably tracking eye motion. Glad i made the change.
