Tobii Eye Tracker 5

> 3 dayIm quadriplegic and I currently use a Tobii 4C to control nearly all parts of my computer. Thats possible with Windows 10s Eye Control feature. As soon as I learned that Tobii had a successor for its 4C, I was excited to upgrade. When I plugged it in, I was dismayed to discover that the Tobii 5 isnt recognized by Eye Control. Theres no indication of this in the product description. Tobiis customer support also informed me that the 4C had been discontinued and tried to upsell me to its line of products intended specifically for disabled customers. They cost multiple thousands of dollars, which I dont have. I added one extra star because Amazon gave me a full refund. If you are disabled, and need an eye tracker for full computer control, DO NOT buy the Tobii 5!

> 3 dayIf you are planning on using the Tobii Tracker 5 with MSFS2020 be forwarned. This is not a good choice for flight simmers. The main problem is that Tobii software does not have a Freeze (or pause) function. All other trackers that I have provide a function known as Screen Freeze or Pause. When using a tracker in the cockpit, it is virtually impossible to hold your gaze completely steady while trying to use a mouse to turn knobs and dials and make other adjustments in the virtual cockpit. In addition to head/eye tracker movement, you also have on-screen movement simulating turbulence and other normal flying motions. When using this freeze function, you adjust your view using the tracker until you have a view of what you want to work on, then click the button or keystroke that is mapped to the Freeze function. Then you have a steady image frozen on the screen so you dont have to chase the hotspot around with your mouse. Click it again and it goes back to tracking. Now the Tobii Tracker 5 does have a function that disables tracking which is almost like freeze. The only major problem with it is that it doesnt freeze the view to what you were gazing at. Rather it resets the screen back to the default camera view of the entire cockpit, which is pretty much useless. Other than the inability to freeze the screen, this head/eye tracker is superior to the other trackers I have, regarding smoothness and accuracy. The initial setup was a bit of a debacle. The instructions say to simply plug the tracker into a USB and then it will automatically download and install Tobii Experience from the Windows Store. Tobii Experience is supposed to then automatically install the drivers and other software for the tracker. Unfortunately for me, none of this happened. I ended up manually installing everything. The calibration was easy but the instructions were not very clear. You dont have to worry about making a lot of adjustments. There are only about 7 sliders that can even be adjusted in the whole thing, and they are all in the MSFS Controls Sensitivity options. That is not necessarily a bad thing, though. The other trackers have so many adjustment settings that you can easily get things severely screwed up. Bottomline.... Tobii Track 5 is a very good tracker as far as tracking goes, but the inability to freeze the screen makes this close to useless for a Flight Simulator.

> 3 dayThis is nifty little device. It very accurate which if you really think about it is pretty impressive. The slightest movement of your eyes just looking at something in a different spot on your screen, even if its just a inch, and this thing recognizes it. I use it in a game called Star Citizen. Its a space game with space dogfights and I simply look at a target on my screen and it selects it rather than having to cycle thru several enemies until I select the right one. It also tracks head movement so when I turn my head a bit my pilots head turns and I can look around. An unexpected added benefit is face recognition for signing into windows too! Ive quickly become spoiled with Tobii

> 3 dayBuild quality is good, tracking is not bad. The real issue here is the lack of supported software. Nearly all Windows 10 features advertised with this device are “temporarily disabled” either outright or while you have more than one monitor connected to your PC (even if you only intend to use one for tracking, which is all that’s supported anyway). Games that support eye tracking are limited, mostly gimmicks. The visible eye tracking feature for streaming is about the only appeal here right now. If that feature alone is worth the price tag then you won’t be disappointed, but if you wanted features like mouse warp and gaze PC locking/unlocking you’ll want to hold out until they actually work.

> 3 dayBought this 2 years ago when Star Citizen added support for it. that is basically the only game i used it with. and i used it for windows hello. works great in game and provided comparable performance to a TIR5 but eliminated the need to attach a tracker to my headset. good stuff and the eye tracking added just that little bit extra over just head tracking. again, really liked it. I felt it was a little pricey 2 years ago when i bought it at 229 and if it still worked, id say it was probably worth it. today, almost 2 years to the day that i received it, it quit working. doesnt power on. changed usb ports, another pc, nothing. now this thing costs 30 more than when i bought it 2 years ago. i probably wont be replacing it in a hurry at 260. not worth it when i still have my old TIR5 laying around. also, they need to include a second monitor mount, or at least a couple more replacement velcro pads so it can be moved to a second monitor or simply moved to a new monitor if replacing an old one as was my case. i used some regular velcro even though its not quite the same as whats included (kind of similar to the high weight 3m command strips). it works but its not as rigid a connection. surely cant cost more than a penny or two to provide extra. they provide extra adhesive for the metal bar the tracker itself connects to and its needed as the factory installed adhesive strip failed within days. nice product when it worked, if a little pricey. but having failed after 2 years of use, thats pretty disappointing.

> 3 dayWorks well, however not worth the money unless you have $300 to spend on something like this. Its great dont get me wrong but it wont make you a better pilot in Star Citizen.
