Tobii Eye Tracker 5

> 3 dayI bought this for use with MSFS 2020, and it makes a huge difference in game/sim immersion. I had considered a TrackIR for years, but really didnt like the idea of having to mount reflectors on a headset or hat to make it work. The Tobii is quite accurate with both head, and eye movements without having to use these reflectors. It takes a few tries (10-15 minutes) to get the Tobii configured in MS Flight Simulator to behave the way YOU want it to. Some people like a dead zone and some people dont. Same thing for auto-centering. You set up the sensitivities for pitch, yaw, roll, etc to match what you like. There is a little bit of adjusting YOURSELF to get comfortable with the head-tracking part over-emphasizing movements (a turn of your head 45 degrees moves the view by 90 degrees) and the eye -tracking which is a 1-to-1 movement. A few minutes of flying and you mentally make the adjustment. Some people dont like the eye tracking for some flight games, but these are more often for the fast paced, jet shoot-em-ups where the head and eye movements are rapid. For MS Flight Simulator, the pace is more sedate and I find it great to be able to glance over at an instrument and have the Tobii recognize that and move to it. I am very impressed with this technology. The Tobii is well made (of aluminum, I believe) and quite sturdy. The ONE complaint I have (and I am not alone in this) is the mounting system. It has to be mounted under the monitor to work, and that is OK. But you have to stick the mount to the bottom of your monitor using a double-sided sticky tape. After about a month or so, this tape started coming loose. Apparently this is a common issue. I have re-taped the mount to my monitor, but fully expect the Tobii to start drooping again. To summarize, while it is more expensive than a TrackIR, I think this is well offset by not having to use reflectors, and the additional functionality of the eye tracking.

> 3 dayFirst, I want to say that the tracker itself works beautifully. The head tracking and eye tracking work flawlessly for me both on the desktop of my computer and within Elite Dangerous, the game I bought it for. It was easy to set up once installed and gives me zero issues even if I sit at slightly different angles each time I use it. That said, my only complaint is not with the tracker but with the newer mounting solution. The old-style mounts (2 included) that stick directly to the lower bezel of your monitor adhere very well. If youre going to use one of these mounts, I recommend you magnetically snap it to the back of the tracker first before removing the cover on the adhesive strip. Then place the whole thing against the bezel as centered as you can and hold it there for a few seconds while applying pressure so the adhesive can bond. When doing it this way, I found it much easier to align and level the tracker as I mounted it. But the new universal mount? The adhesive was nowhere near as sticky on this mount as it was on the old mounts. I cleaned the bottom of my monitor to clear it of any dust and then dried it as the instructions said to. Then I placed the mount, making sure that the maximum amount of surface area between the adhesive pads and the monitor bezel were in contact before holding it there under pressure for a few minutes. Once the tracker was snapped on, the mount stayed in place for about 30 seconds before falling. The adhesive pads, which werent very sticky to begin with, got dirty as the thing bounced around on my desk, rendering the new mount totally useless. Further attempts to re-stick it to the bottom of my monitor met with even less success than the first. So to recap, the newer, universal mount is my only complaint with this produce. I think it would be much better if the adhesive were stickier like it is on the older mounts. Tobii could also consider including a few spare velcro adhesive pads for this mount so that follow-up attempts with it could be made if the first one fails and the adhesive gets too dirty to stick anymore.

> 3 dayWorks well, however not worth the money unless you have $300 to spend on something like this. Its great dont get me wrong but it wont make you a better pilot in Star Citizen.

> 3 dayIf you have a bit of money to burn and want to take your flight sim setup to the next level, then eyetracking/headtracking is the way to go. Ive enjoyed this over TrackIR since this has nothing you have to wear. Which means its usable with speakers rather than headphones if you wish. It works in a variety of games (quite surprising honestly) and it works as a windows hello camera. The issues Ive had with it are the monitor mount. Firstly, they dont recommend using it with a monitor that has a nipple control on the bottom center. Which makes no sense considering most high end monitors HAVE one. It seems to work okay. But adjustments may need to be made. Secondly, the cord coming out the side is incredibly annoying. A USB-C cable with connectors to the side and back of the Tobii would make for a MUUCH nicer experience both with aesthetics and cable management.

Greater than one weekIsn’t compatible with IL2, it was at one time through a third party app that is no longer supported. It’s more expensive than track ir but if you don’t want the inconvenience of wearing a hat while gaming this is the thing. Wish it supported second life and world of warships.

> 3 dayIt was incredibly easy to set up, and it works almost immediately. No issues, have been using it for over a month.

> 3 dayThe build quality is really nice, the packaging is great. However, the software is the worst software I have literally ever seen. Didnt download driver upon connecting. Whatever, Ill just follow their guide and download it and do it manually. Cool, driver installed. Still didnt download the Tobii Experience program, the program that actually lets you use the product. Whatever, Ill just go download it. It says I dont have the Eye Tracker 5 and the driver isnt up to date. I spent 3 hours trying to get it to work, an hour of emailing back and forth, and then an hour on Team Viewer. Nothing worked. Old drivers didnt work. Manually downloading the program didnt work. Mix and matching didnt work. At the end the tech support guy literally told me that theres nothing left to troubleshoot and it is likely just a bad unit. I tested it on my gaming computer that could maybe have some sort of issue with it, and also on my work laptop that is basically factory new aside from having Chrome downloaded. Neither worked, it is not my machines. I am getting a replacement but if that doesnt work then I will be losing all hope in this product, though I was incredibly excited to use it for Star Citizen.

> 3 dayFor $230 this isn’t really fantastic value but if you have money to blow I definitely recommend it because it’s one of the coolest things I’ve ever bought. It’s super easy to setup and works fine for me without ever glitching out or mistracking. Works fine with my glasses as well which I thought might be an issue. Ya overall it’s just a $230 gimmick but at least it’s cool.

> 3 dayVery nice product. Very accurate and quick resoponse. But! Windows 10 does not support this model. You have to install older version Windows eye control software. (I found the older version software from the link provided of this lady using this product on youtube. The software is from tobii customer support)

Greater than one weekThis is a hardware/software product looking for a solution. - Mostly all hype! Nothing special over what is already available in games or windows 10 using standard mouse keyboard input. - Tobii Dims the screen - yeah if your screen supports Tobii. My $1500.00 4k monitor does not, but windows can power down my monitors when I am away from Keyboard and wake the monitors up when I touch the mouse/keyboard. -- Windows eye control - NOPE, not if you are using more than one monitor. If you are a serious gamer using 3 monitors - Tobii Eye Tracker offers little if any benefit. When Tobii 5 is enabled for most of the games I use that support Tobii 5 - games are actually harder to play when Tobii 5 is enabled. Tobii 5 is jerky, and prone to errors and also reduce the frame rates. In conclusion - I find no reason to use this technology especially if you are using a multiple monitor setup. Sending mine back for a refund because this product is mostly hype without a real purpose.
