Tobii Eye Tracker 5

The build quality is really nice, the packaging is great. However, the software is the worst software I have literally ever seen. Didnt download driver upon connecting. Whatever, Ill just follow their guide and download it and do it manually. Cool, driver installed. Still didnt download the Tobii Experience program, the program that actually lets you use the product. Whatever, Ill just go download it. It says I dont have the Eye Tracker 5 and the driver isnt up to date. I spent 3 hours trying to get it to work, an hour of emailing back and forth, and then an hour on Team Viewer. Nothing worked. Old drivers didnt work. Manually downloading the program didnt work. Mix and matching didnt work. At the end the tech support guy literally told me that theres nothing left to troubleshoot and it is likely just a bad unit. I tested it on my gaming computer that could maybe have some sort of issue with it, and also on my work laptop that is basically factory new aside from having Chrome downloaded. Neither worked, it is not my machines. I am getting a replacement but if that doesnt work then I will be losing all hope in this product, though I was incredibly excited to use it for Star Citizen.

I got this mainly for American truck simulator and it made the game so much more fun! Hoping I can try it out on another game soon.

The product technically works well. The issue is if your using on a sim racing rig and the bottom of the monitor is lower than your wheel (even when turning (see pictures)) tobii will loose connection and image will stutter. Whatever situation you plan to use this make sure that nothing passes through the line of sight to the sensors. It must be able to see your eyes. If you purchase and find you are having issues, here’s a tip (not recommended by manufacturer). Install off center on the monitor to the left 6”-12” and line up markers on the screen setup with actual location. Then in settings, set it up to follow your left eye instead of both. I found that this worked okay but was still loosing line of sight at full lock when turning right. Unfortunately I stopped using it. Also this, will NOT work on top of the monitor, even upside down.

Im satisfied with the product. However, there are many complaints about the delivery service. Despite the high price of the product, it was delivered so that it was treated as a regular mail rather than a parcel at the time of delivery, and as a result, the product was delivered to the mailbox without being delivered directly to me. Its an expensive product, but if its delivered to the mailbox like this, theres a risk of loss, and its not easy to recognize whether the product has been delivered or not. Im very dissatisfied with this.

Fun to use, but the option to snap the mouse to it with small motions doesnt work reliably. Maybe it just needs better software.

Pros: Works as advertised. Very cool when paired with compatible programs. Cons: Only works from the bottom of the monitor. Sometimes fails to initialize, and doesnt work when computer first starts. Only works with a few programs, and those are kinda gimmickey. Not a full replacement for a mouse, which is what I was hoping for (cant click). Neither: Accuracy isnt awesome, but its my understanding thats normal. I dont think anything exists thats more accurate. Smaller monitors are better (additional loss of accuracy at edges of big monitor).

I loved

I have primarily used it for star citizen and Arma. Took all of 3 minutes to set up. I would recommend check tobiis site as you can often get it cheaper if you dont mind waiting a bit longer.

Auto detect setup is awkward. Head tracking is very good and eye tracking requires getting use to. Overall, better than TIR 4, but pricey.
