Maybe a gamer would notice a difference but I tried this one and the one that is a tier lower (black and orangish color) and couldnt notice any difference. I also tried the TP AX1100, which was less than half the price of this one, and again, I couldnt tell any difference. For me, I was hoping the high-end routers would give me a better range, but all of them provided essentially the same signal at the same distances from the router. Ended up with the TP and just got a repeater to extend the range since none of them would reach all the way to the other end of the house.

Websites frequently freeze when loading (or entirely fail to load) with the recent October 2022 firmware update. I have to buy a new router to access Wi-Fi reliably due to that recently-introduced bug.

This is my first ASUS router and a first impression. Very good router so far. It has better WiFi signal strength and coverage than my previous router(s). The last one was an AC8500 model. All my previous routers were from the same manufacturer so the ASUS GUI was unfamiliar. Having said that, it was easy enough to find things with occasional help from the PDF manual on the ASUS website.

This is a very nice router, but I was surprised it was not a modem, especially for the price. It also has a large footprint, so consider placement.

Router as a standalone device is great. FYI, it has some sort of password character limitations (and doesnt state that they exist during setup!). Setup repeatedly failed until I dropped a wildcard from the password and went to basic alphanumeric characters.

For the uninitiated, heres how it works when you buy a high performance ASUS router:

Well first off 2.5gb port is supposed to active by default. Set up does not detect it, so go ahead and use manual set up. If you have a Samsung S21 Ultra, dont use Tri-band Smart connect. It wont stay connected to the 6ghz band and when it switches to the 5ghz band it will be in a state as connected, but with no internet. You can use smart connect with the 2.4 and 5ghz bands and have the 6ghz separated if you want. Sometimes when you bake changes to the settings you loose wireless connections and have to reboot, buggy firmware at the moment. Strang things in the logs as well such as cant update an ip because it is not a mesh device and already in the UDB, cant add it. 6ghz is not working with Intel AX210 at the moment, supposedly a windows thing. Sometimes during a reboot from the app or web gui wireless does not always come back so best to use the power button on the back if you need to reboot. and if you are using the 2.5gb port as a wan the internet led only will light red when there is no internet, once it gets an ip it will go completely off. I dont know what happens when you use the 1gb (blue) port. My main issue is I am randomly loosing internet connection, usually in the middle of the night. I have to get up and reboot the router and for some reason I cant get an ip from my fiber modem unless I pull the cat and reinsert it.

I got the ASUS GT-AXE16000 paired with the 2 ASUS ZenWiFi Pro ET12 for Asus Aimesh setup. I have only 1 device that can do more than 1gbps that my gaming PC with Comcast/Xfinity I get about 1400mbps down and 40mbps up. The router works, but if you you are using Aimesh dont use frimware version .388 Or higher as of 02-04-2023. It has a major bug that kicks off all nodes ever couple of minutes. The frimware also applies if you have the ASUS ZenWiFi Pro ET12 updated to the .388 Frimware you need to down grade all 3 of the devices. I bought these as a bundle set so it was $100.00 off.
