This rod works very well with a good striker. Showers a lot of hot sparks easily and seems to have a good level of magnesium in it. I have used it a few times now, using the spine on my Gerber Strongarm to strike the ferro rod, I was able to repeatedly strike it quickly to ignite less than optimal tinder and was easy to due with the width and length of this ferro rod. I definitely feel I got my $ worth in this product. Very pleased.

Here you have a fire rod without handle or plastic, nothing loose, nothing that will detach, creates sparks fast and easy. I would definitely bring one of these in my bogout bag in addition to a primary fire rod.
